1 of 18 Unicorn 911s: Bidding War About to Explode!

By now, long-term readers of The Daily Vroom will know that the 911 is the most popular car model sold across platforms. Every single day most platforms have such a variety of different 911's on show, it can be very difficult to find those special ones. Well lucky for you, that's what I'm here for. Today we have a really special one.

Folks, feast your eyes on this absolute gem - a 1992 Porsche 911 Turbo S2. This isn't your run-of-the-mill 911, oh no. We're talking one of only 20 ever built, and one of just 18 US-market examples. And get this - it's now chilling in Canada, living its best life as an automotive snowbird.

This bad boy was cooked up by Porsche to play in the IMSA-sanctioned Bridgestone Supercar Championship series. They took a regular 911 Turbo, sent it to Andial's California workshop, and said, "Make it nastier." The result? A 3.3-liter turbocharged flat-6 pumping out a whopping 322 horsepower, thanks to a beefed-up K27 turbocharger, spicy camshafts, and an intercooler that's larger than your average apartment fridge.

Now, here's where it gets even juicier. This particular example has been babied like you wouldn't believe. The current owner went all out in 2019, treating it to a meticulous restoration. We're talking reupholstered seats, fresh seals, the works. They've even thrown in some tasteful mods - a rowdy aftermarket exhaust to wake the neighbors, H&R Special Springs for that perfect stance, and a modern infotainment system that doesn't look out of place in a '92 interior. Clever stuff.

With 94,000 miles on the clock, this isn't a garage queen - it's been driven and enjoyed as Porsche intended. But don't worry, it comes with a clean Carfax, a fancy certificate of authenticity from Porsche themselves, and enough service history paperwork to wallpaper your garage.

Now, let's talk money. Back in '92, this special edition would've set you back an extra $10k over a standard 911 Turbo. Total cost? A cool $112k. That's about $250k in today's money. Ouch.

So there you have it, folks. A true unicorn in the vast sea of 911s. It's rare, it's fast, it's got history, and it's been loved. If you've been waiting for that perfect addition to your Porsche stable, this might just be the one. Happy bidding.

Update On Ferrari F12 & Tom Brady Rolls Royce

Friday was a big day for sales on SOMO. First up, we’ve got a record-breaker: the 2016 Ferrari F12 TDF, which sold for a cool $1,125,000, a record sale for them. That’s right, SOMO, which I’ve written about before having a very rocky start, has turned things around. They’ve adapted, pivoted, and are now seeing an average sale price of over $200k. To put it into perspective, they’ve even trumped Cars & Bids, a platform that’s been trading for years but has seen their highest sale top out at $710,000.

It just goes to show that even platforms like SBX, which have had their fair share of struggles, can make a comeback with the right changes from top to bottom. (will they?)

Another notable sale on Friday was Tom Brady’s Rolls Royce Ghost, which fetched $410,000. Second-hand Rolls Royces are notoriously tough to move at high prices, but throw in a superstar seller like Brady, and suddenly you’ve got a winning combination.

These sales demonstrate that there’s still plenty of action in the high-end market, and with the right strategy, even platforms with shaky beginnings can find their footing, but ONLY if they put in the work.

More Than Just Cars: The Lucrative World of Heritage Number Plates and Beyond

We all know that car auctions aren’t just about cars anymore. These platforms have expanded to include a variety of automotive treasures—car signs, engines, wheels, model cars, simulators, and much more. But one of the most lucrative markets, especially Down Under, is what Australians call ‘number’ plates. These aren't just any number plates; they are unique and heritage plates that carry a serious value, and people are willing to pay a hefty sum for them.

Take a look at some of the bids on these plates, and you’ll see why they’re a big deal. One of these plates is already over $1.4 million—yes, you read that right. People are shelling out serious cash for the privilege of owning a unique number plate, and it’s clear that there’s a thriving market for this kind of memorabilia.

Collecting Cars has been savvy enough to get their hands on a collection of these Heritage plates in Australia, and this move could be incredibly rewarding for them. Australia ranks as the second most visited country on their site, just after the UK, indicating a substantial audience and plenty of qualified buyers ready to make significant purchases.

These heritage plates are not just numbers; they are a status symbol, a piece of history, and a prized possession. As the demand grows, platforms like Collecting Cars stand to benefit hugely from catering to this niche market. So, while cars will always be the stars of the show, it’s clear that the supporting cast—whether it’s vintage car signs, high-performance engines, or those coveted heritage number plates—is where some serious money can be made.

In a market as dynamic and diverse as this, being able to tap into these varied interests means more opportunities and more revenue. With Australians showing they’re willing to go big, Collecting Cars is positioning itself well to take full advantage of this lucrative trend. It’s a smart move, and one that’s likely to pay off handsomely as they continue to attract big spenders and enthusiasts from all corners of the globe.
