🚗 $1.5M F40 Steals the Show!

PLUS: The $22k Alpina That Got Away...

The Daily Vroom

Good morning, Vroomers!

The sales keep coming and the volume of sales keeps going up, well at least this week it is. We've got some delightful highlights of cars featured today that span many decades. I'm talking everything from classic air-cooled Porsches to modern supercars, and a few quirky finds in between. It's like a automotive time machine out there!

Can't wait to see what delights today brings. Will we see another record-breaking auction? Maybe a barn find that'll make us all wish we had a long-lost uncle with a forgotten garage? Or perhaps a modern classic that's finally hitting its stride in the market? Whatever it is, you know I'll be here, popcorn in hand, ready to break it all down for you.

So keep those auction paddles ready, folks. The way this week's going, you never know when that dream ride might pop up.

See you tomorrow, Sam

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below.

Well well - what do we have here, a very empty looking market leaderboard. I'm cheering hard on the sidelines for the next rung of platforms to get their act together. It can be done. Or maybe a new competitor will join and shake up the market?

Looking at the table, one might assume that sales numbers would be down. But for the third successive day, sales numbers have increased with just shy of $8.5m worth of sales yesterday. We can see from the chart below where the average sale price sits, but just like yesterday when $100k+ sales made up 10% or more, it's been a good day in the market. Average sale price across all platforms was $51k.

This is interesting, folks. We're seeing a bit of a paradox here. On one hand, our leaderboard's looking emptier than a parking lot at a vegetarian BBQ. But on the other, the market's still cooking with gas.

Three days in a row of increased sales? That's not just a fluke, that's a trend. And with nearly $8.5 million changing hands yesterday, it's clear there's still plenty of appetite out there for the right rides.

Now, that $51k average sale price tells a story too. We're not just seeing a flood of budget beaters here. With 10% or more of sales breaking the $100k barrier, it's clear the high-end market is still alive and kicking.

So what's the takeaway? Well, it seems the big fish are still swimming, but there's room in this pond for more players. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the next platform to step up their game or for a new kid on the block to shake things up. This market's ripe for innovation, and I, for one, can't wait to see who's going to seize that opportunity.

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

I'm never bored of writing this, but it seems like a repeat activity for Collecting Cars, who are the masters of those high-end sales. $1.5m for an F40 is a great buyers price. Generally speaking, the F40’s is one model that has historically sold better in live auctions.

Anyways, lets get back to CC. Over here in the U.S. most don't pay too much attention to them, but they should. In fact, with BaT going over to their home country, I think Collecting Cars should come over here.

Let me tell you, folks, Collecting Cars is like that quiet kid in class who suddenly reveals they're a chess grandmaster. They're consistently knocking it out of the park with these high-end sales, and it's high time we Yanks sat up and took notice.

Imagine the fireworks if they brought their high-end expertise to our shores. We're talking about a potential automotive auction arms race, and I'm here for it. The competition would be fiercer than a muscle car showdown, and you know who'd come out on top? Us, the car enthusiasts.

So here's my two cents: Collecting Cars, if you're listening, America's calling. We've got plenty of automotive treasures just waiting to cross your virtual auction block. And to my fellow American gearheads, keep your eyes on Collecting Cars. They might just be the next big player in our backyard.

Remember, in the world of classic car auctions, what happens across the pond doesn't stay across the pond. It's a global game now, and Collecting Cars is showing they know how to play it. Let's see if they're ready to step up to the plate here in the land of baseball and apple pie!

Sale of the Day

Our Sale of the Day is a doozy! We're talking about a 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe that just crossed the finish line at a cool $88,464. Now, why's this our top pick? Let me break it down for you.

First off, it's a 964 - that sweet spot in 911 evolution where you get modern(ish) performance with that classic air-cooled charm. This Guards Red beauty is rocking a 5-speed manual, because let's face it, if you're not rowing your own gears in a 911, what's the point?

But here's where it gets spicy: This isn't your run-of-the-mill 964. Oh no, this bad boy's got some tasty mods. We're talking Fabspeed exhaust, H&R coilovers for that perfect stance, and 18-inch Rotiform NUE wheels that'll make you weak in the knees.

Sure, it's got some battle scars - a cracked windshield, some seat creases - but that's character, baby! And let's not forget, this was a no-reserve auction. Someone just scored themselves a heck of a deal on a 911 that's ready to carve canyons or turn heads at cars and coffee.

Bottom line, Vroomers: This sale proves that the market for driver-quality, slightly modified 964s is still hot. It's the perfect blend of classic 911 vibes with just enough modern touches to keep things interesting. And at under $90k? That's what I call a bargain in today's Porsche market.

So, to the lucky new owner: Congrats, and please, for the love of all things holy, drive the wheels off this thing!

The $22k Alpina That Got Away

Alright, Vroomers, let's talk about the one that got away - the 1999 BMW Alpina B3 3.3 Sedan that just missed the mark at $22,000. Now, I've got to say, the seller made the right call holding out for more. This isn't just any old Bimmer we're talking about here.

First off, this is chassis #001 of a mere 591 sedan examples. That's rarer than a politician keeping their promises, folks! But here's the kicker - these Alpina gems are so obscure that many gearheads don't even know what they're looking at. And that, my friends, is why it didn't hit the price it deserves.

For me, this is the ultimate Alpina. I'm kicking myself for not throwing my hat in the ring on this one. We're talking about a wild, rare beast that combines the best of BMW with Alpina's special sauce. That 3.3L inline-six pumping out 280 horses? Pure automotive poetry.

And let's not forget that interior. Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats a '90s BMW cloth interior with a cool pattern. It's like sitting in a time capsule of automotive coolness.

The sad truth is, many folks just don't appreciate what they're seeing here. But for those in the know, this B3 is automotive royalty. It's not just a car; it's a piece of history, a testament to what happens when German engineering gets an extra shot of espresso.

So, to the seller: good call. This beauty deserves more love (and more cash). And to the rest of you Vroomers: keep your eyes peeled. Cars like this don't come around often, and when they do, they're worth every penny. Trust me, you don't want to be the one telling stories about the one that got away!
