PLUS: The HUGE mistakes of this premium listing
The Daily Vroom
Hey Vroomers! 👋
In our recent Daily Vroom editions, we've really gotten our hands dirty with in-depth looks at Hagerty and Bring a Trailer. But for today, we're switching gears for a more concise ride – still packed with those juicy tidbits you love. Hope you find it just as riveting! 🚗💨
MARKET LEADERBOARD
💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc.. All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.
I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means PCarMarket, Hagerty and many others did not sell 5 cars yesterday!
Yesterday's Online Market Surge: $5.6M in Sales!
The online car market got a real boost yesterday, clocking in sales of $5.6 million. Now, don’t let Collecting Cars' absence from the leaderboard fool you – they actually nailed two of the day’s priciest sales! (see below)
Only 3 Companies Sold More Than 5 Cars!
You're reading that right. Just three companies managed to sell more than five cars yesterday. This screams loud and clear to me: in the US market, there are basically two big shots (you know who they are) and the rest... well, it's a jumbled mix. But here's the kicker: there’s a massive opportunity for a third player to step in and shake things up. It could be a new platform or an existing.
Who could snag this spot? My money's on a company that's carved out a niche for itself. They’d likely have a couple of aces up their sleeve like a tech edge, a major influencer, or a ready-made audience. And let's be real – they better not bombard us with irrelevant ads (looking at you, Hemmings). The right contender doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel, just roll in with a smart game plan.
Do you believe the 3rd spot in the US online car market is up for grabs? |

A Not-So-Premium Listing
Fresh off my analysis of all BaT's 2023 premium listings which you can read here, we've got a new contender on the block today. However, this latest "premium" listing doesn't quite hit the high bar we've come to expect from BaT.
The Car – A 10k-Mile 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster:
This car should be a stunner. At first glance, you'd say it deserves the premium tag – and it is a great car. But there's a twist: it's been passed around, with 8 owners across the US and 10k miles. It features a supercharged 5.4-liter V8, AMG five-speed automatic transmission, black leather upholstery, and those distinctive butterfly doors. But here’s where things fall flat.
Sub-Standard Presentation – A Potential Deal Breaker?
BaT really seems to have missed a step here. The photos and videos are just not up to scratch: think irrelevant angles, random cars in the background – far from the premium showcase we'd expect. This is the dealer's second listing, their first premium one. It raises the question: shouldn't there be a certain standard for premium listings? I'm not trying to be snobby, but it's a letdown.
Presentation's Impact on Final Sale Value
There are plenty of top-notch powersellers on BaT who could have presented this car in a much more professional light. If the presentation were better, I bet this car would have a much higher potential to fetch top dollar at the end of the auction. This listing is a clear example of how crucial presentation is in maximizing value.

Low Mileage Special(ish) Cars
Below are a selection of low(ish) mileage vehicles that deserve a second or even first look. Just click on the image to take you directly to the listing.
This Z06 auction above has a little tension brewing between the seller and a ‘potential’ bidder.
