MARKET LEADERBOARD
💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.
I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below.
Yesterday was a stellar day with $7.7 million worth of vehicle sales. We're still awaiting the emergence of that 5th global platform and 3rd U.S. consistent performer to join our leaderboard rankings. Will it be an unexpected dark horse, or will one of the bigger platforms that has been struggling to find consistency finally hit their stride?
Below, you can see the breakdown of sales into their respective price segments. The figures are very similar to the previous day, with a slight increase in both the $0-$5,000 and the $100,000+ categories.

2021 Ford GT Carbon Series Sale
Yesterday we saw the 2021 Ford GT Carbon Series sell for $999,999. The final bid came in 11 days earlier, so for nearly two weeks there weren't any new bids. To me, that says something about what the market views as the appropriate price for this vehicle.
And yes, there were the usual comments claiming it was a steal. But was it really?
If you look at the last 3 online auction sales chart above, this was actually the highest price. Sure, dealers are likely asking even more, but that's how dealers operate. Actual sales are the true indicator of market value.
But besides the massive sale price, there were two other really interesting takeaways for me:
The highly successful seller Wob. Just this month, he has already sold $3,954,804 worth of vehicles. And get this - 88.9% of the cars he listed sold in June!
You can see why he's so successful - high quality photography, videos, descriptions, engagement, etc. He brings an extremely professional package.
I don't know what his commission is, but I'd estimate around 10% per sale, which makes this a very lucrative business.
Of course, he has expenses and didn't build it overnight. But it's great to see how he's built such an impressive operation on top of Bring a Trailer. Major props to Wob.
Check out the distribution of prices on his June sales so far - very impressive numbers.
The buyer who paid $999,999 goes by 'carmag'. With all the data and AI available these days, I don't think anyone would have predicted he'd be the winner based on his prior auction wins, which you can see below.
However, if you dig a little further into his bidding history, he has bid $995,000 on a Ford GT before.
Bidders have different strategies, and from a quick look, it seems carmag is more of a maximum price, limited bids type. He knows his limit and doesn't get pulled into bidding wars. Seems the opposite of an emotional bidder.
