FORD GT: 2023 PERFORMANCE PLUS INTRIGUING FACTS
The 2005/2006 Ford GT continues to be a sought-after collectible, as evidenced by these recent online auction sales. Below is a summary of all the sales for these iconic vehicles in 2023.
Two of the sales both on Bring A Trailer, both for 2006 Ford GT and both ended up selling for the exact same price of $406,000, just 12 days apart. What are the odds?
Price wise there seems to be a soft spot at around the $400,000 price. So if you have one sitting in your garage (who doesn't) you know the type of money you'll be fetching for it.
I don't normally like to bring into the discussions the physical auctions houses, as here on The Daily Vroom we concentrate our efforts solely on the online auction space. That being said the sales of the 1st generation Ford GT in these physical auction houses mirrors the online space with an average sale at around $400,000.
History:
The Ford GT was introduced in 2005 as a modern homage to the legendary Ford GT40 race car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times in a row during the 1960s.
The 2005/2006 model boasts a mid-mounted 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 550 horsepower and a top speed of 205 mph, making it a highly desirable collector's item. There were just 4,038 of them made, of which zero I have driven in 😭
2006 Ford GT sold by BaT for $605,000
Little-known facts:
The Ford GT's design was led by Camilo Pardo, a renowned automotive designer and artist.
The car was initially named the "GT40," but due to a trademark conflict with the original GT40 race car, it was simply renamed "GT."
The roof-mounted doors, reminiscent of the original GT40, were included in the design as a nod to the car's racing heritage.
The limited production run of the 2005/2006 Ford GT included only 4,038 units, adding to its rarity and desirability.
The Ford GT was so popular that it was brought back for a second generation in 2017, paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of Ford's 1966 Le Mans victory.
