MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.

Look what we have here—a much fuller market leaderboard table. Doesn’t it look better with more platforms making the cut? What this translates to is nearly $9 million in sales just yesterday, with an average sale price hitting $50k. Sure, a $1.8 million sale does push those figures up a bit, but hey, that’s the ebb and flow of the market.

With BaT now regularly hitting three-digit sales, anything in the two-figure range is starting to feel like a letdown. I’ll be diving into their revenue soon, but you can bet it’s looking a lot healthier. With their increased commissions, a higher volume of sales, and the ‘make an offer’ option, it’s all adding up to a whole lot more.

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

Want to dive deeper into any of these listings? Just click on the car to take you directly to the listing.

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing $1,825,000

2019 Porsche 911 Speedster $303,750

1996 Porsche 911 Turbo $262,000

2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG $236,000

2014 Ferrari 458 Spider $212,458

Mercedes-Benz are the high flyers today. How many times have we said in the past that they have two of the top 5 sold cars in a day, probsably never. Once again we had a mixed bag of platforms appearing in the top, congrats to Cars & Bids, Collecting Cars & BaT.

300SL Gullwing Defies Expectations

Well, well, well. Last year this 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing with factory Rudge wheels couldn't find a buyer at $1.35M on BaT. It just sold yesterday for a whopping $1.825 million on Bring a Trailer.

Now, I've said this countless times, and I'll keep saying it: the market value of a car is what someone will pay for it today. Tomorrow? That's a different story entirely. And boy, did this sale prove that point.

When this silver beauty hit the market in 2023, we heard all the usual chatter about softening markets and tempered expectations. But the seller? They stood firm, insisting $1.35M wouldn't cut it. Turns out, they were spot on – and then some!

Here's where it gets interesting. The new owner isn't your typical collector looking to add another showpiece to a static collection. This enthusiast joined BaT in May and has already splashed out $4.2 million on cars, including that bargain Porsche 930 Turbo formerly owned by Ronnie Wood. So clearly he’s a very savy buyer. Would love to know his story… You can check out his buys here.

And the cherry on top? Our new Gullwing owner plans to actually drive it. Music to my ears! This is what these machines were made for, after all.

Let's not forget what we're dealing with here. One of 1,400 Gullwings ever made, those coveted factory Rudge wheels, and a history that includes a 37-year stint with one owner. It's the stuff of automotive legend.

So what's the takeaway from this high-stakes sale? Simple: when you've got something truly special, the market responds. All those predictions about trends? They can take a back seat. For the right car, on the right day, with the right buyer – anything's possible.

Million-Dollar Dreams

While we’re riding the wave of $1 million+ sales, it’s impossible to ignore the chatter around the SBX platform. Sure, they’ve had their fair share of million-dollar listings that haven’t quite crossed the finish line, but it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that one will sell at auction someday. And believe me, when that happens, I’ll be here writing about it. For now, it seems that any sale through an auction would be a win for them.

Today, another potential big sale is brewing over on SOMO. The car in question? A jaw-dropping 2016 Ferrari F12 TDF, which, at the time of writing, has already climbed past the $1 million mark with a few hours left on the auction clock. This car is already a spectacle in its own right, and it’s easy to see why the bids are rolling in.

The 2016 Ferrari F12 TDF, named after the legendary Tour de France Automobile endurance race that Ferrari dominated in its heyday, is not just any Ferrari—it’s a beast. This limited-edition variant of the F12 Berlinetta is a track-focused masterpiece, boasting a 6.3-liter V12 engine that churns out an astonishing 769 horsepower. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, thanks to its lightweight carbon fiber construction and advanced aerodynamics. Only 799 of these beauties were ever made, and this particular one is a real head-turner, finished in the classic Rosso Corsa.

If this Ferrari crosses the $1 million mark—and it’s well on its way—it will be their highest ever sale.
