325,000 Miles and an Unforgettable Porsche Story

The Daily Vroom

Good morning, Vroomers!

A warm welcome to all our new subscribers over the past few days. Today, I'm keeping the chatter to a minimum and letting the cars do the talking—and trust me, they've got a lot to say!

Catch you tomorrow,

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.

So, it’s the usual four on the Leaderboard, all with fantastic sell-through rates, when did that last happen? No new additions, but check out the sales below—some high-end deals bumped the total sales value close to $7 million. And get this: BaT sold in double digits. That used to be the norm last year, but now? Good luck remembering the last weekday that occurred.

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

Yesterday was the kind of day I love to see. The top 5 listings came from three different platforms: Collecting Cars, BaT, and SBX. Even better, it wasn’t just one make or model hogging the spotlight—five completely different cars found new homes. My favorite? The rare right-hand drive ‘73 Porsche.

As for the top seller, the AMG, it supposedly sold back in August for over $150k more, but with no notes on that, I’m guessing the deal fell through, and the seller ended up taking a big hit just three months later!

A Journey of 325,000 Miles: The One-Owner Porsche 912 with a Heartwarming Legacy

This isn’t just a car—it’s a 325,000-mile love story spanning nearly six decades.

Every car has a story, but this 1965 Porsche 912 Coupe has an incredible one. Imagine the scene: It’s 1965, and a young teacher has just returned from a two-year stint teaching Army children in Germany. Fresh from adventures across Europe in her trusty VW Beetle, she’s got her sights set on something a bit more ambitious. Enter this Porsche 912, purchased with a $400 deposit and her father’s loan, a loan she repaid in full—every dollar earned as a dedicated schoolteacher in the Bay Area.

Fast forward nearly six decades, and that same Porsche remains, not as a museum piece but as a well-loved, well-driven car. This isn’t your typical garage queen; it’s seen every road, every season, racking up over 325,000 miles. Twice repainted in its original Signal Red, with engine rebuilds and interior retrims over the years, it’s a testament to a life lived fully and a car cherished deeply.

From parking religiously in the farthest spot at school to neighborhood caretakers keeping watch while she traveled the world, this 912 carries the spirit of its owner. The original black California plates still adorn the car, and the records, handwritten notes, and even a heartfelt letter from her father paint a picture of devotion. It’s an heirloom of a different kind.

And here’s the heartwarming twist: this auction is about more than just a car sale. The proceeds are set to benefit the Humane Society of Silicon Valley, the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, and Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael. A fitting legacy for a car and a story—this special.

Sale of the Day

It’s funny how things work out—so far this week, wagons seem to be following me everywhere, even though I never plan to write about them when I start. Yet here we are again, with another one to talk about: a 1995 Honda Accord Wagon that sold for an absolute bargain at $3,666 on Cars & Bids.

This one was a Japanese-market, right-hand drive gem with just 93,800 miles, finished in Bordeaux Red and mostly unmodified. Already titled in the U.S., it was ready for some wagon-loving enthusiast to take it home.

This sale got me thinking - do platforms really bother marketing cars under $10k since their fee is fixed and pretty low at that price? I reckon this car could've done better with just a bit of marketing (even the free organic stuff). Sure, it wouldn't mean much more for the platform, but it'd put more cash in the seller's pocket. Anyway, that's a chat for another day.
