51 Cars. No Reserve. Hagerty’s Rocket City Drop Is Wild.

PLUS: A widebody Civic VTi, a sleeper Volvo C70, and the K5 that made me a believer.

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers,

The long weekend’s behind us, but the market didn’t lift off the throttle. Memorial Day saw steady momentum across platforms with this Lexa LFA being the top seller for $782,000. This week’s already firing on all cylinders.

At the top of the heap: a Bugatti Chiron formerly owned by Canelo, a 1956 Gullwing with four decades of single-owner California history (yes, I’m watching that one closely), a 319-mile GT3 RS 4.0 already flirting with seven figures, and a nearly new Ferrari 296 GTB that brings hybrid power to the top-tier Ferrari fold.

But it’s not all unreachable stuff. Scroll down and you’ll find some sharp buys and a few sleepers that might just sneak under the radar.

Let’s get into it.

Hats Off Hagerty: The Rocket City Collection Might Be Their Best Yet

Credit where credit’s due.

Hagerty Marketplace just lit the fuse on what might be its best collection drop ever — 51 cars, all no reserve, all live this week out of Huntsville, Alabama, aka Rocket City. It’s a wildly eclectic, undeniably fun lineup: from a 1925 Buick Standard Six to a Maybach 62, with movie cars, tribute builds, and more oddballs than a Barrett-Jackson side tent. And every single one of them is selling.

This isn’t new territory for Hagerty. They’re the one site that consistently brings in full collections, and more often than not, they go no reserve. That takes guts. It also makes for great auction theater. But this drop, it’s next level — not just because of the mix, but because of the energy they’ve brought to it.

I’ve written before that Hagerty’s online arm has felt unfocused. There’s no standalone team dedicated to building out their marketplace experience (Broad Arrow is running the high-end, but the site needs a sharper identity of its own). That’s still true. But they’ve turned up the heat here, and it’s working.

Collection Highlights: A Glimpse at the Madness

And that’s barely scratching the surface. There’s a Dragster, a rocket truck, a GNX, and even a Hardcastle & McCormick replica. You want Americana? Weird Japan? Euro luxo-barges? Celebrity tie-ins? It’s all here.

Why This Drop Matters

Because this is what separates Hagerty Marketplace from the rest: they hustle to land full collections, and when they do, they sell them like they mean it. You don’t see Bring a Trailer pulling in 50+ collections this fun. You don’t see Cars & Bids throwing down with this kind of inventory range.

There’s still room for improvement — UI upgrades, curation consistency, and a clearer identity apart from Broad Arrow. But in a space that often plays it safe, Hagerty just threw a car party, and you’re invited.

Everything’s selling. No safety nets. No re-listing drama. Just old-school, auction-as-it-should-be, you-bid-you-win energy.

So yeah — hats off, Hagerty. You showed up for this one.

Affordable Auctions To Keep An Eye On

This thing nails it. I’ve always liked the idea of a vintage K5 — now I get it. The black paint pops, the stance is right, and that interior (wow!) straight out of a '70s concept sketch, in the best way possible. The white and orange combo is loud without being cheesy, and the Custom Sport Truck upholstery makes it feel more show truck than trail rig.

Under the hood: a 350ci V8 with a Quadrajet carb and Thrush sidepipes that bark like it’s still 1972. You’re not buying this for MPG or creature comforts — there’s no A/C, and the fuel economy is brutal — but for presence and attitude, it’s hard to beat.

Two tops, full resto, and car show trophies included. This isn’t some ratty survivor. It’s a built-up, dialed-in rig that looks ready for the dunes or the next Cars & Coffee.

This ‘92 Civic VTi Hatchback imported from Europe. Widebody Pandem kit. VTEC B16. Five-speed. And just the right amount of chaos.

It’s rough. It’s loud. And it’s definitely not stock. But that’s the charm — a track toy, street rat, and conversation starter in one.

The Volks don’t come with it. The attitude does.
Currently at $7,500 with a few hours to go and No Reserve.

You won’t see another one like it this weekend. Or maybe ever.

This isn’t your grandma’s Volvo. Factory C70 Coupes are rare. Manual C70 Coupes are nearly nonexistent. This one’s been manual-swapped, stuffed with forged internals, R cams, a Mitsubishi turbo, Quaife LSD, and StopTech brakes.

It’s a proper parts-bin performance build with the bones of a touring car and just enough Volvo comfort left intact. The paint’s tired, the sunroof’s sealed, but at $6K and no reserve, it’s one of the most interesting sleeper builds you’ll see all week.

Don't sleep on it.
