PLUS: Why The 2024 Porsche 911 Turbo S Is The Best Daily Driver

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers,

Let’s dive straight in to today’s edition as there’s a lot to get through!

See you tomorrow,

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below.

Monday was a standout day in the auction world, with a impressive $8.3M worth of vehicle sales. Looking at the chart above, you can see BaT (Bring a Trailer) hit their highest numbers of the year in terms of actual sales.

What's particularly interesting is that none of these sales were for Europe, despite BaT having dipped their toes into the European market with one partner so far. This suggests there's still significant untapped potential across the Atlantic.

Consider the implications: BaT is pulling these numbers with minimal European presence. Imagine the possibilities if they decide to expand their European operations more aggressively. The potential for growth is substantial.

This performance indicates that the auction market remains robust. If Monday's results are any indication, we could be in for an intriguing period ahead. It'll be worth keeping a close eye on how BaT's European strategy develops, and how it might impact their already impressive sales figures.

Yesterday's Sales Breakdown:

The breakdown is nothing out of the ordinary. In fact it looks distinctly average. The $20k-$40k segment emerged as the market sweet spot, as it does most days. High-end sales ($100k+) were not 10% or above. The average sale price across all platforms settled at $42k. (average is $42k-$45k).

This aligns with typical Monday performance in terms of a price breakdown. It was just the sheer quantity of sales that has increased yesterday. As you may be thinking that could well do with the no sales day on July 4th for both BaT and Cars & Bids.

YESTERDAY’S TOP SALES

Highlighting previous sales under each sale, certainly helps me better understand the market. Do let me know (by email) if you find past online auction data as useful. I could go back further, but I feel this gives you enough of an indication of where the market is for a particular model.

Hats of here to Bonhams Cars Online & SOMO for hitting the top sales of the day list.

2019 Ford GT ’68 Heritage Edition $985,000

2019 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring 6-Speed $210,000

1978 Ferrari 512BB $202,365

There is not enough comparable sales data.

2010 Porsche 911 GT3 $200,000

A quick observation on this particular auction: The moment I saw the photography, it was clear this was going to be one of the top sellers. As it turns out, the seller was none other than 1600veloce.

Without delving too deeply into his sales history, it's worth noting an interesting tidbit: The only recent sale that surpassed yesterday's figure was another of 1600veloce's listings back in May.

It's a testament to the impact that quality presentation and a solid reputation can have in the online auction space.

1992 Porsche 911 Turbo $193,000

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe 4-Speed $180,000

Porsche 911 Turbo S: Dealer Markups and Market Realities

The 2024 Porsche 911 Turbo S continues to be a hot topic in the car world, particularly when it comes to pricing. Some dealers are still attempting to add $30K to $50K markups over MSRP. While the car's scarcity is undeniable, these premiums are raising eyebrows.

From a performance standpoint, the Turbo S is hard to beat as a daily driver. Its blend of track capability and everyday usability makes it arguably one of the best all-around performance cars on the market today. It’s 100% a big favorite of ours at The Daily Vroom.

Interestingly, we've only seen one of these sell at auction so far. It went for $272K against a sticker price of $277K - a relative bargain considering the current market. Now, there's another one up for auction with the current bid at $202K and time left to run.

It'll be fascinating to see where this one ends up. Will it approach sticker price or possibly exceed it? This sale could give us a clearer picture of the true market for these cars.

One question that comes to mind is why anyone would sell such a car so soon after acquiring it. Perhaps it's a case of trying to flip for profit, or maybe the car didn't meet expectations. (that’s not possible)

For most of us, owning a Turbo S remains a lottery-win dream. But for those with the means, it represents the pinnacle of everyday supercars. As this auction unfolds, we'll get a better sense of what buyers are really willing to pay for that privilege.

Summer Steal

Looking for the perfect summer ride without breaking the bank? Look no further than this 1999 Mazda MX-5 Miata 10th Anniversary Edition currently up for grabs.

This isn't your run-of-the-mill Miata. We're talking about a limited edition model with a sexy two-tone interior and a slick 6-speed manual transmission. And let's not forget the triple blue threat - Sapphire Blue Mica exterior, dark blue soft top, and blue/black interior. It's like diving into an ocean of fun.

What really sets this one apart is its condition. With just 28,900 miles on the clock, it's the lowest mileage, best-condition example I've ever laid eyes on. It's practically begging to hit the open road.

As of Monday night, the current bid sits at a mere $8k. Oh, and did I mention it's a no-reserve auction? Someone's about to score a hell of a deal on a fun, nimble roadster that's perfect for top-down summer cruising.

If you've been dreaming of wind-in-your-hair driving without the supercar price tag, this Miata could be your ticket to ride. With its limited edition status and pristine condition, it's not just a car - it's an investment in pure driving joy.

You know what? Cars & Bids or the seller should be tossing me a commission for hyping this beauty! But who needs payment when you've got a Miata this sweet to talk about? I'm practically doing the bidders a favor by spreading the word. Just don't tell the seller I'm driving up the price - I might want to sneak in a cheeky bid myself!

So, who's ready to make their summer a whole lot more exciting? This blue beauty is waiting for a new home, and at this price, it won't be waiting long.
