BaT's Server Crashes Gives Bidders A 2nd Chance
🤫 PLUS: Potential bargains on these no reserve auctions
The Daily Vroom
Good Morning Vroomers,
With some big auctions on the horizon, I thought it best to showcase a few potential bargains out there.
NEW MARKET LEADERBOARD
💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.
I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below.
Yesterday threw us into a whirlwind of auctions, racking up sales to the tune of $6.2 million. It felt eerily like Groundhog Day when I rubbed my eyes in disbelief, seeing auctions that I was sure had closed the day before still running. For a moment, I truly thought I was losing it. So what happened? BaT's server decided to take an unscheduled nap yesterday afternoon, right as some auctions were drawing to a close. Hence, they extended these auctions by another day.
Among those caught in this digital limbo was the McLaren Speedtail we discussed yesterday, pondering over why it hadn't found a new home. Well, it turns out we might have overlooked "server crash" on our list of potential reasons 😅. Jokes aside, even with an additional 24 hours on the clock, the Speedtail remained unsold.
Is it just me (it might be) but have we been seeing more server crashes recently on BaT? |
YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES
Today we have six cars in the top 5 if that makes sense. As the last two cars both sold for the same price!

Alumni Catchup
Below are the top 5 Alumni sales yesterday. The arrows in the diagram below show whether the vehicle sale has gone down or up in value.
In yesterday’s roundup of Alumni auctions, among the 12 cars listed yesterday, 10 found new homes.
Zeroing in a bit, that 1977 Porsche 911S coupe ended up stealing the spotlight, not just because of a server snafu that gave it an extra 24 hours in the auction spotlight, but also because it hammered down yesterday for a cool $68k. Quite the jump from its 2021 price tag of $60,999.
This classic, with a hearty 226k miles under its belt, saw only its tires and seats getting a refresh in February 2024. This just adds to the evidence that the 911 market is its own beast, with the demand for all its variants showing no signs of slowing down.
This was one of the listings to gain an extra 24hrs due to the server crashing was this 1977 Porsche 911S coupe that ended two days ago for $54,000 and was originally sold in 2021 for $60,999. The only changes to this 226k mile car were ts tires and seats were replaced in February 2024. If we didn’t know already the 911 market is pretty much a market in itself that continues to go up. The demand for all varities of 911’s is just super high.
Buy & Sale of the Day
Yesterday's sale of the 2020 Lamborghini Huracan EVO Spyder was one of those rare occasions where you can't help but feel like both the buyer and seller walked away winners. The car, a showstopper in its Arancio Argos Pearl paint, sold for $261,000. Just seeing the photos, you can tell this Lamborghini isn't just a car; it's a statement. And in person? I bet it's even more breathtaking.
Diving into the numbers, this sale was spot-on. Comparing it to recent online sales, it's clear the price was more than fair, especially considering dealers are listing similar models for about $30k more. The seller set a reasonable reserve, proving that a fair deal is still possible in today's market.
No Reserve Potential Bargains
Today, I'm diving into the world of No Reserve auctions that have the potential to be bargains. Who doesn’t love a bargain?
Like I touched on yesterday, Hagerty's got this collection of no reserve auctions going on this week, and I gotta say, some of these finds are looking pretty sweet, especially when you think about the deals you might score compared to other places. Now, keep in mind, these auctions are still in the heat of the moment, so it's anyone's guess where the final bids will land. But, if you've got a moment or two to spare, definitely take a peek at what they've got on offer here.
The current bid on this 2007 Mercedes-Benz E320 is only $2,250 and ends tomorrow.
Another potential bargain is this 2010 Range Rover 5.0 Autobiography owned by some irrelevant (sorry) script editor from Top Gear.
One great looking wagon here. Can see the value even with the shipping cost.
