Big Wins for Collecting Cars Yesterday

PLUS: Your feedback on BaT's fee increase

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers,

Collecting Cars came out swinging yesterday, landing 3 of the top 5 sales. BaT continues to be the weekday machine, clearing 100-plus cars like clockwork.

Cars & Bids had a decent showing. If they can keep nudging that sell-through rate higher, 30-plus sales a day gets within reach.

SBX quietly posted their best day yet with 3 cars sold. It’s a small number, but maybe it’s the kind of step they need to prove they can move cars consistently.

As for everyone else—there’s always today and tomorrow.

The Daily Vroom continues to grow thanks to readers like you. If you know someone who’d appreciate our take on the market, send them our way at thedailyvroom.com.

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.

Sale of the Day

This was the right car, the right spec, and the right kind of fight.

A 17k-mile, numbers-matching Series I fixed-head coupe in Oyster Beige—unrestored, with its original paint, interior, and trim still intact. The mechanicals were refreshed in 2018 after decades off the road, but the presentation stayed true to the car’s history. No over-restoration. No polishing away the story.

Bidding went long—25 minutes past the scheduled end—as two serious buyers traded punches down to the wire. Final price: $152,000. Strong money for a coupe with an automatic, but well-earned given the originality.

Also: a perfect example of how to sell on BaT. The seller was present, detailed, and responsive—the kind of communication that builds trust and drives action. This clearly wasn’t their first rodeo, and it showed.

Originality sold the car. A well-run auction made sure it didn’t get missed.

Your Feedback

Yesterday we asked you ‘What do you think of BaT’s new 10% buyer’s fee for motorcycles, parts, and other select categories?’

The clear majority of you agreed with me and felt the new fees were totally fair. Below are a selection of your comments.

I automatically add the fee to whatever I'm bidding on (BaT is transparent about this when bidding), so an increased fee reduces the amount I will bid, thus reducing the proceeds to the seller.

Just another way they have F'd up a once great site.

I’ve seen typical online auctions charge as much as 15%, uncapped. Ten percent capped is still more than fair as an industry standard.

Bat has earned the right to tweak their model. They’ve built the audience, the tools and the trust. Ten percent is not a dealbreaker.

I rarely buy bikes or neon signs, but 10% won’t stop me from buying them. I mean where else seriously would sellers even go nowadays. eBay and Craigslist are just full of scammers.
