MARKET LEADERBOARD

No other sites sold 10 or more cars 😞

Yesterday was quite a standout! 🌟 We saw an unprecedented mix of platforms in the top 20 car sales, more diverse than I've witnessed in a long while.

In the top 10 lineup:

  • Bring A Trailer and Collecting Cars each clinched 4 sales.

  • Cars & Bids and PCarMarket managed one each.

I'm thrilled with this competition! 🚗💨 Platforms jostling for the top spots is exactly the kind of dynamic I relish.

Now, diving deeper into the numbers:

  • The average sales from leading US platforms, Bring A Trailer and Cars & Bids, were $36,560 and $29,843 respectively.

  • In a stark contrast, a whopping 42% of vehicles sold by Collecting Cars yesterday soared above $100,000. 🚀

On the more affordable end:

  • Collecting Cars' most budget-friendly sale was a Bentley at $18,825 (previously owned by film director and critic Michael Winner 🎬).

  • Cars & Bids had a sale at a modest $5,300.

  • Bring A Trailer saw one going for a mere $1,901.

TOP 5 SALES

STEAL OF THE DAY

2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO
Sold for JUST $145,535

Link to auction here.

Mileage: ~2,300 Miles
Original MSRP: $169,780

📜 A Brief Dive into History:
The Nissan GT-R, internally dubbed the R35, has earned its nickname 'Godzilla' for a reason. Since its debut in 2009, it's been a force to reckon with, giving a run for their money to its pricier European and American competitors. The NISMO variant? Well, it's the cherry on top, with a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 unleashing a whopping 600 horsepower.

🔥 My Take:
Alright, let's talk about this beast. When I say this is the "steal of the day," I genuinely mean it. This NISMO GT-R isn't just a car; it's an experience. With its Low-Sheen Gray Metallic finish, it's a head-turner, and those carbon-fiber trims? Pure class.

And let's not forget the luxurious insides with heated Recaro front seats. Only 2,300 miles on it and priced at $145,535? Last one that hit the online auction market was sold for $179,000 and this one is a LOT better. Someone got themselves an absolute bargain!

And if you're looking for a more technical perspective, there's no one better to describe this mean machine than Doug DeMuro:

"I love the R35 Nissan GT-R – and the NISMO version is one of the most exciting variants, boasting true supercar performance and rarity. This particular NISMO GT-R is finished in gorgeous Low-Sheen Gray Metallic, and it's equipped with the expensive optional titanium exhaust system, Recaro front seats, a Bose sound system, and a lot more. It also indicates just 2,300 miles from new, and it's offered with a clean, accident-free Carfax report for added peace of mind. This looks like an incredibly fun car, and I'm sure the next owner will have a blast with it!"

2023 BMW SALES

When looking at the automotive landscape, BMW stands out not just for its engineering but also its significant market impact. In 2023 alone, BMW sales amounted to an impressive $67.17 million. That speaks volumes about the brand's resonance with consumers. Diving into the specifics, the average BMW found a new home for $27,549.65. Let's delve further to understand the dynamics behind these numbers. 📊

It's not particularly shocking to see Bring A Trailer leading the pack with the top 10 BMW sales this year. What did catch my eye was Car & Classic securing the sale of the 4th priciest BMW. I wasn't aware they dealt in such premium vehicles. A brief overview of their transactions this year revealed that this '38 model has been their top-ticket sale. Take a look at the car...

Approximately 38.8% of the BMW sales were for the 3 Series model.

In 2023, the BMW 3 Series led the pack in sales value, outperforming the next best-selling BMW model by a staggering 168.93%, highlighting its unwavering appeal and dominance in the market.

Let’s take a look at average sale prices for each of the top 5 models to see if there are any price trends.

From the chart, it's evident that the average sale price for the 3-Series is on an upward trajectory.

Since the beginning of the year, both the 5-Series and the 6-Series have experienced a notable rise in their average sale price.

While the Z4's pricing has been largely consistent, there has been a slight dip in its average sale price over the past couple of months. On the other hand, the Z3's prices, which seemed unusually low in January, have oscillated month-to-month ever since.

With the 3-Series being by far the most popular of the BMW models. Lets take a closer look at their sales.

I decided to merge the recent data on the number of 3-Series sold with the top 5 selling platforms, along with their average selling prices. Notably, while Bring A Trailer leads in sales volume, they don't top the chart in average sale price. That distinction goes to PCarMarket, with Collecting Cars trailing closely — a platform known for focusing on higher-priced vehicles.

Finally I delved into identifying the most popular decade and specific year for BMW sales. The 2000’s were the winner. For a closer look, I assembled the chart above, pinpointing 2004 as the peak year. The different shades represent the average selling price for each respective year.
