MARKET ANALYSIS

Boy, did we hit a rough patch yesterday! 📉 It was hands down the most dismal day of sales since The Daily Vroom took off. And I did hint in yesterday's newsletter that this week might be a tough one. Well, here we are, navigating a sea of disappointing numbers.

Let's kick things off with the bad... actually, the downright terrible. Hemmings. 💔 They had 10 listings and managed to sell - brace yourself - zero cars. Yes, a big, round zero! I've touched upon Hemmings' struggle in previous posts, highlighting how they're missing the mark in an industry they should be acing.

It's disheartening, really. They had a head start, a massive user base subscribed to their magazine, and a whopping 5 million website visitors last month! Their name is no stranger to industry insiders, yet they're struggling to keep their head above water. Why this catastrophic failure, you ask?

Maybe they don't care enough? 😔 Is it the management dropping the ball? 🎭 A user-unfriendly website causing a stir? 💻 Or perhaps they've made the fatal error of allowing competitors to advertise in their magazine? 📰

While I can't confirm the truth of all these possibilities, one thing stands out like a sore thumb - their website is, quite simply, ABYSMAL. With a steady stream of 5 million visitors every month, they should be acing this game, not floundering! Other auction websites, with the exception of BaT, garner significantly less traffic yet manage to outshine Hemmings by miles. This is the first step Hemmings need to take (if they're invested, that is) - a complete overhaul of their digital platform. This is just the starting point, though. There's a steep climb awaiting them after.

To be honest, I didn't intend to start my day on this bitter note about Hemmings. But seeing them falter time and again is lighting a fire under me. I want to see them succeed. I want to see them give others a run for their money. But do they want it enough?

And don't even get me started on their social media... We're talking about a sizeable organization here, not a one-man operation. It's mind-boggling! 🤯

As the clock hits 11pm here in LA, I desperately need to shift gears from Hemmings!

On to the sales from other platforms yesterday. Bring A Trailer, despite fewer listings than usual, witnessed their poorest Monday sales in ages. They did, however, manage to sell nearly $3m worth of cars. So, it's not all doom and gloom! 💰 Cars & Bids maintained their commendable sell-through rate, while Collecting Cars and Car & Classic are neck and neck in the UK market when it comes to sales volume.

Well, there you have it. A bit longer recap of yesterday's sales than either of us expected, but here we are! 🚗💨

P.S. Truth be told, my initial draft of the above was more of a supersonic dive into Hemmings... maybe too intense for a regular update. 🚀 Makes me think, perhaps a premium, no-holds-barred edition of this newsletter is what's needed. Unfiltered opinions, anyone? 🤔

NEW AUCTION PLATFORM COMING SOON

In the latest shakeup in the auto auction industry, PistonHeads is making its grand entrance.

If you're unfamiliar with the brand, PistonHeads has been a recognized name in the industry for over two decades, boasting a thriving car forum and classified business in the UK. Last month alone, they drew in 5 million website visitors, with 80% of this traffic stemming from the UK 🇬🇧. The site operates under the aegis of CarGuru's, a brand that many of you are undoubtedly aware of.

For those of you in the US online auction scene, there's no need to fret just yet - PistonHeads seems to be focusing on the UK for now, as they're only accepting cars listed within the UK. However, this poses a direct challenge to the UK's current industry frontrunners, Collecting Cars & Car & Classic. It might be time for these platforms to keep an eye on their rear-view mirrors, as PistonHeads could potentially be gunning for a portion of their market share.

If you've got a few minutes to spare, I'd recommend diving into the comment section of their official announcement here. It certainly makes for an entertaining read.

Best of luck to PistonHeads on their new venture! 🍀

1st GEN FORD BRONCO SALES

I’m often asked by readers, what is the best platform to sell a specific car on and what are recent trends for that car. So today I’m here to answer that question on one of my favorite cars the 1st Generation Bronco.

VERY BRIEF HISTORY

The first-generation Ford Bronco (1966-1977) ❤️ She was Ford's feisty first step into the off-road scene, and boy, did she make an entrance. This beast was just as comfortable strutting on city streets as she was kicking up dust on backcountry trails.

Her design? Simplicity personified with just a dash of style – quite the head-turner. Rev her up, and you could feel the rumble of inline-six or V8 engines. And believe me, those were some powerful horses 🐎 back in the day.

But the Bronco wasn’t a one-trick pony. She came in a roadster, sports utility, and wagon configurations – a veritable triple threat! What really sets my heart aflutter, though, is the legacy she left behind. This Bronco was the spark that lit America's passion for the SUV.

Today, she's a classic icon, sought-after and admired by enthusiasts and collectors alike. I gotta tell you, they just don't make 'em like the first-gen Bronco anymore!

The data trends provide a decent bird's-eye view, but the devil's in the details, my friends! To get a full grasp, it's crucial to peek at the sale price for each model. So, let's put on our detective hats and dive into each transaction below.

Now, if you're scratching your head, pondering where to parade your precious auto, here's a little inside scoop. The sales in June were the showpieces of just two sites. For the glitz and glam, the high-priced stunners, Bring A Trailer was the preferred stage. But here's a surprise twist - the more budget-friendly options found their spotlight on... drumroll 🥁, please... AutoHunter! Bet you didn't see that coming, huh?
