๐ŸŽ๏ธ 1981 BMW M1 - A Legend of German Engineering ๐ŸŽ๏ธ

โš™๏ธ About the Model The 1981 BMW M1 was part of an exclusive production of about 400 road-going models. This striking white vehicle was finished in September 1980, delivered new in Stuttgart, Germany, and then imported to the US in April 1981. Designed by the masterful hands of Gianpaolo Dallara and Giorgetto Giugiaro, the M1 was initially developed for homologation in FIA Group 5 sports car racing. When financial woes at Lamborghini disrupted the partnership, the M1 took on its own distinct character with a production process that saw it touch Italian and German soils before finally coming to fruition.

๐ŸŽจ Exterior and Design Resplendent in a factory shade of 'weiรŸ', the M1 displays its athletic and iconic stance with pride. It features tri-color stripes over the right-front fender, and several unique design elements - pop-up headlights, a matte black front spoiler, rear louvers between vented buttress-style sail panels, and a roof-mounted antenna. The wheels are 16" Campagnolo alloys fitted with Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires. The car also features servo-assisted ventilated disc brakes at each corner and an advanced suspension system.

๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ Interior and Comfort Stepping inside, you are greeted by black leather and checked cloth upholstery that extends to the adjustable seats, door panels, rear firewall, and headliner. This M1 offers air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, and a Nakamichi cassette stereo for that authentic 80s vibe. In essence, the M1's cabin is a blend of sporty ethos and comfort.

๐Ÿ”ฉ Under the Hood Powering this beast is a mid-mounted 3,453cc M88 inline-six engine featuring dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, dry-sump lubrication, Kugelfischer-Bosch fuel injection, and six individual throttle bodies. The engine churns out a robust 277 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque, proving that this beauty has strength beneath its skin. Paired with a ZF five-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential, the M1 promises exhilarating drives.

โณ History and Documentation The M1 boasts a rich history with several marque collectors, including M1 registry founder Gordon Medenica, Indy 500 winner Bobby Rahal, and racing driver Archie Urciuoli. The car's current owner acquired it five years ago, and an inspection and service in January 2023 totaling over $20k were completed. The vehicle shows ~20k miles (~33k kilometers) on the odometer. It comes with a BMW Historical Archives certificate, invoices, and documentation dating back to the mid-1990s, and an ownerโ€™s manual.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Nearly sale of the Day! In both performance and collectability, the M1 continues to underscore its iconic status among automotive enthusiasts. Its allure lies not just in its engineering or performance, but in the very soul of the vehicle - a unique blend of German precision and Italian style. But what is the true value of such a car???
