Celeb Owned Tesla Plaid Breaking Records 👀

PLUS: This 2002 Mercedes-Benz G500 Is Back For Auction Number 4!

The Daily Vroom

Hey Vroomers,

First off, a huge thanks for all the awesome feedback on yesterday's market analysis and PCarMarket's 2023 numbers! You guys rock.

While yesterday's MLK Day put a pause on some listings, plenty of exciting new rides hit the scene, and I've got the scoop on them along with some sizzling auctions closing out this week. This market keeps throwing curveballs, and I'm loving every minute of it.

I've been noticing a pretty interesting trend among online car auction sites lately. They're snapping up collections of cars, bundling them together under some snazzy names. Having the ‘Jean-Claude Van Damme’ collection sounds tasty and I can see why sites are doing this, especially if you can convince the owner to make it No Reserve.

Plus, there's this growing buzz around celebrity-owned vehicles. Just last week, we saw a ride formerly owned by Michael Jordan hit the block, and let's not forget the 'unofficial' Seinfeld auction.

This week's talk of the town? A YouTuber's car going for sale with No Reserve – and, boy, is it drawing in the crowds. These celebrity sales and partnerships are a mixed bag, though. Remember the Ed Bolian collab? It was mainly the No Reserve cars that really moved. So, it's a heads-up for platforms to pick their partnerships wisely. There's no magic bullet for a sustained spike in traffic with just one high-profile listing or partnership.

But, when they nail the right partner? It can be a game-changer, opening up whole new audiences for these sites. That's exactly what we're seeing play out right now.

With most online auction houses closed today, you might have expected a quieter day in the market, typically estimating around $3m-4m in sales. However, the online auction market always has a way of defying expectations. Contrary to the anticipated slow day, we witnessed a remarkable $5.3m in sales, following the impressive $7.4m over the weekend.

This trend continues to affirm what I've been emphasizing: the trajectory for the online auction market is exceptionally positive. Reflecting on my previous discussion, the opportunity for platforms in this space is substantial. There's a vast potential for either established players to bring their level up or for new players to emerge and establish a significant presence.

I'm eager to see what unfolds today and how it contributes to the evolving landscape of the online auction world.

Celeb Owned Tesla Plaid Attracting Big Bids!

Marques Brownlee, better known as MKBHD, is a name synonymous with cutting-edge tech reviews on YouTube. With a massive following, he's not just a content creator but a trendsetter in the tech world. Now, one of his prized possessions, a 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid, is up for auction, and it's stirring quite the excitement.

This isn't just any Tesla. It comes with three sets of wheels and tires, including the exclusive 20-inch Track Pack Zero-G wheels and 21-inch Arachnid wheels. The standout feature is the Carbon Ceramic Brake Package, an extra that adds $15-20K to the car's value. Plus, it's equipped with Tesla's Full Self-Driving capability, making it a tech enthusiast's dream.

With the current bid at $86,500 and still days to go, this auction is already nearing the new model's $89k price tag. The unique appeal of this Tesla doesn't just lie in its specs; owning this car means a piece of MKBHD's personal tech journey, and the chance to meet him if you're the winning bidder.

The auction has already attracted over 270k views, on the way to setting a new viewership record for the site. It's a testament to the allure of celebrity-owned items and the growing trend of online vehicle auctions. For those in the know, or just getting to know MKBHD, this Tesla Model S Plaid is more than a car; it's a statement.

Look Who’s Back!

I had this de ja vu feeling when I saw this 2002 Mercedes-Benz G500 up for auction. It couldn’t be, could it? And yes it is. It has quite the history, which I’ve written about extensively here in The Daily Vroom. Here’s what I wrote in October.

And here was the update a few days later.

If it was rollercoaster then, what is it now? The G-Wagon now has 400 extra miles on it now and it’s already (rightly so) gaining some traction. So the only question I can now ask is, will it sell? Follow it here.

What price do you think it'll end up with?

It’s A RUF First!

In what's a first for Cars & Bids, they've got a 2007 RUF Rt 12 Coupe on the block, and it's stirring up quite the excitement. As I've been saying, the market's only heading one way – up, up, and away with endless opportunities!

2007 RUF Rt 12 Coupe – Not Just Any Ride 🏎️

This isn't your everyday sports car; it's a 6-speed manual beast with a jaw-dropping 650 horsepower and all-wheel drive. The car's pedigree is rock solid, with a W09 VIN confirming it's a factory-built RUF. Talk about exclusivity! With only 31,500 miles on the clock, it's coming in clean from Dallas, TX.

RUF Rt 12: A Blend of Style and Power 💥

Finished in Carrara White with a sleek black interior, this ride's a head-turner. It's decked out with 19-inch RUF Superleggera wheels, carbon ceramic brakes, and an adjustable hydraulic suspension with front lift system. The cherry on top? It's got a carbon fiber rear decklid and a RUF steering wheel to complete the look.

Current Bid: A Whopping $304,911 💰

With 2 days left and already at $304,911, this auction is on fire. Could this be a record-setter for Cars & Bids? Given the car's pedigree and condition, I wouldn't bet against it. I’ll be back to report on where it lands…
