Chris Harris Brings the Buzz to This Bugatti Veyron

PLUS: A plug-in Wrangler proves Jeep can still grab attention in a Bronco and Defender world

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers,

No small talk this morning. Time to get right to the good stuff.

Sale of the Day

The Jeep Wrangler has always been about old school grit. But this 2024 Rubicon X 4xe tells a more modern story. It pairs a plug-in hybrid drivetrain with the most capable trim in the lineup, and yesterday it sold on Cars & Bids for $42k and plenty of back-and-forth in the comments.

The spec helps explain the attention. Finished in High Velocity Clearcoat, a bold color introduced in 2024, this Rubicon X came unmodified with 16,300 miles and a clean history. The hardware list was long too: Warn winch, Sky One-Touch power top, steel bumpers, leather inside, and of course the 375 horsepower hybrid system that delivers 470 pound feet of torque.

The wrinkle is timing. On the retail side, dealers have been cutting prices on new Wrangler 4xe models, with discounts running as deep as 30 to 40 percent off sticker to move unsold stock. Against that backdrop, $42k at auction looks like the market splitting the difference. Not a bargain basement result, but not out of step either.

The buyer’s enthusiasm stood out. The winning bidder said they made an account just for this Jeep and called it the rig they had been waiting for. That kind of energy shows how the right spec can push buyers past the noise of dealer incentives and into a no reserve auction.

Credit also goes to the seller. This was their first ever auction on Cars & Bids, yet the listing was presented cleanly and every question was answered with detail. That transparency gave bidders confidence and helped keep momentum strong to the end.

And while the Ford Bronco and Land Rover Defender continue to grab headlines in the SUV wars, this result is proof that Jeep still knows how to command attention. Hybrid or not, a Rubicon in the right color with the right kit is still the dream for plenty of buyers.

Car & Classic Levels Up with a Bugatti Veyron

A few months back we wrote about how Car & Classic has quietly been moving upmarket. Their bread and butter is still affordable classics, but lately they have been landing more serious consignments. Now comes the big one: a 2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4, listed on their auction platform.

The Veyron does not just represent a step up in value, it is a statement piece. Pearl Metallic over black Alcantara, full Bugatti service history, and barely over 34,000 km. This is the kind of car you usually see on RM Sotheby’s or Bonhams catalog covers, not tucked between MGBs and Minis on a UK-based site.

The relationship with Chris Harris also looks clever from a distance. If you head to his YouTube channel, you can see he is actively promoting the Car & Classic app, and this Veyron video alone has already pulled in over 120,000 views in just a few days. He is bringing them eyeballs, and the right kind of eyeballs too.

There is another layer here as well. Harris, who many still associate with Collecting Cars, is now front and center at Car & Classic. He is not just quietly behind the scenes either, he is out promoting this Veyron with a video walk-around. That is a big swing in the UK auction rivalry, and you can imagine it has not gone unnoticed on both ends.

The timing is smart. The Veyron turns twenty this year, still widely regarded as one of the greatest cars ever built. Only 252 coupes exist, and even fewer come to market in this condition. Pair that milestone with Harris’ reach and Car & Classic suddenly looks less like a regional player and more like a legitimate competitor in the big ticket auction space.

The majority of their sales will still be sub-£50k cars. But the Veyron is a signal. If they can attract and sell at this level, then the ceiling on where Car & Classic can go just got much higher.
