MARKET LEADERBOARD

As I've consistently highlighted, the battle for dominance in the U.S. auction scene seems firmly locked at the top, with the leading two platforms comfortably in place. Yet, surprisingly, no one's making significant moves to challenge the runner-up, let alone secure the coveted third position. It's high time for these platforms to step up their game and really start to contend.

Over in the UK, the scenario mirrors this to some extent, with their own dominant duo leading the pack without a strong third contender in sight. The competition between the top two is notably tighter, with Collecting Cars slightly ahead in the number of sales but significantly outpacing in the total value of those sales.

Just recently, we witnessed Cars & Bids claim the top spot on the most expensive sales chart, as you'll see below. The collective value of sales impressively crossed the $6m mark. It's a clear signal to the industry – the race is on, and it's anyone's game to transform the landscape of online car auctions. Platforms, it's your move!

Super Cool Build For Sale

This 1983 Porsche 911SC Cabriolet that just went up for auction is a testament to exquisite craftsmanship and raw power.

It's a remarkably special and properly modified slant-nose 911, complete with iconic pop-up square headlights—a nod to the timeless design and engineering prowess of Porsche. Revving up close to 400hp, thanks to its turbocharged 3.3L engine with a 1.0 bar wastegate spring, this car is a sheer powerhouse, promising an adrenaline-packed driving experience.

A notable commenter even remarked, "This looks like a clone of my car, a W09 RUF BTR. It seems that some nice work went into it and that it has an upgraded turbo engine to match the look is a nice touch. This video (below) highlights the experience of driving the full blown fire breathing beast that this car is based on.”

Investing in bringing this car up to spec was, in my opinion, money well spent. The buyer is not just acquiring a car but a legacy of speed, style, and unmatched performance, all for a fraction of what 930’s are currently going for.

Looking at the the sellers history, you can see they know exactly what they are doing. Their dedication to quality and authenticity shines through this remarkable offering.

Sale Of The Day

The sale yesterday of the 2006 Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster on Cars & Bids for $650,000 isn't just a transaction; it's a significant milestone, marking the 4th highest sale on the platform and setting a new record as the highest sale price for this exact model in any online auction. This momentous occasion further solidifies Cars & Bids' burgeoning reputation in the high-end online auction sphere, signaling its readiness to attract and handle top-tier listings with aplomb.

The car, a stunning specimen in Arancio Atlas, represents more than its impressive specs. It's a testament to the sheer joy of driving. With a mere ~4,500 miles on the odometer, its robust 6.2L V12 engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission promises an unadulterated and thrilling driving experience. The buyer's intent to not just showcase but actually drive this gem resonates deeply with true car enthusiasts. It's a refreshing reminder that magnificent cars like these are crafted to be felt on the road, not just admired in a garage.

The dialogue surrounding this sale, particularly the commentary from Ed Bolian, adds an intriguing layer to the narrative. His insights, especially considering his affiliation with Sotheby's Motorsport, lend weight to the sale's significance and subtly hint at possible shifts in his partnership with SM.

After this landmark sale, 'wistarmotors' may well regard this achievement as a promising indicator of what the future might hold on Cars & Bids. While it's based on a single transaction, the sale's success not only highlights the seller's knack for presenting a highly desirable vehicle but also tentatively positions them as a possible emerging figure within the platform's vibrant community?

This sale doesn't just represent a transaction; it signifies a loud and clear proclamation that Cars & Bids is decisively carving out its niche in the prestigious auction arena. It’s just a matter of time before their first $1m sale.

129-Mile Riddle: ‘96 Porsche 911 Turbo

We're diving into the intrigue surrounding an incredibly low-mileage gem that's taken the auction scene by storm – a 129-Mile 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo. Currently standing at $352,000 with 6 days to go, this remarkable find is causing quite the stir, the comment section is crazy!

At the heart of the community's discourse (and mine) is the burning question: Can we trust that this stunning Porsche, with its paint-to-sample Silver Metallic finish and a myriad of luxurious features, truly boasts a mere 129 miles? It's well-known that tampering with speedometers in such models isn't beyond the realm of possibility. Despite the seller's assurance and the car's impressive lineage, the community remains cautiously enchanted, voicing concerns and admiration in equal measure.

Some community members admire its pristine condition, labeling it as eye candy and marveling at its originality. However, others can't help but express their perplexity and even frustration – why would someone own this marvel of engineering and not revel in the driving experience it promises?

The intrigue deepens with an anecdotal twist – one user has stirred the pot by posting a picture of this very car parked at a Bed Bath and Beyond in 2017. This peculiar sighting has left many scratching their heads, humorously noting that of all the exhilarating journeys this Porsche could embark on, a trip to Bed Bath and Beyond seems an unlikely choice for a '129-mile' vehicle in East Hampton.

The seller, 'TooTall,' representing the owner offers a narrative of a meticulous collector who perceives his cars as art, ensuring each one is preserved in its prime condition. Yet, some details don't fully align, like the replacement of turbos and evidence of paintwork at such low mileage, leaving a lot of us scratching our heads.

This whirlwind of speculation begs the question: If the mileage is indeed accurate.
