SALE OF THE DAY

Sale Price: $82,500 | Sold on: Car & Classic 🚘🔑

💫A Standout Homologation Special: This immaculate 1987 BMW M3 E30 stands as a testament to BMW's brilliance in engineering and design. An iconic homologation special with only 79,000Km on the clock, it's an undeniable piece of automotive history.

🔧Under the Hood: Imported from Japan in 2021, it has since been meticulously restored to its factory specifications using a plethora of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts. Its unmodified status, combined with the extensive refurbishment, ensures a driving experience akin to that of a factory-fresh E30. Its powerful 2.3-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine and a plethora of mechanical upgrades are proof of its superior build quality.

🛋️Stepping Inside: The interior retains its original black leather upholstery with a distinct patina that reflects the car’s age. With a full disassembly, clean, and reassemble, every component is perfectly placed. An old-school Sony radio/cassette player, electric windows and mirrors, and functional air conditioning add to the interior's charm.

🎨Exterior Excellence: The Lachssilber Metallic paintwork (code 203) complements the original BMW M3 body kit, contributing to its stunning exterior. Its rust-proofed chassis and the refurbished Style 5 alloy wheels are testimony to the thorough restoration process.

💎Why It's a Jewel: This vehicle represents a fantastic opportunity to own an increasingly rare, unmodified example of one of the finest performance cars ever built. Its homologation special status, coupled with its stunning condition and thorough refurbishment, make it a jewel worth treasuring.

INDUSTRY NEWS

Did Cars & Bids celebrate a record-breaking sales day yesterday?

Impressively, 27 out of 30 cars found new owners, marking an extraordinary 90% sell-through rate 👏

Intriguing figure, but as an analyst, I crave context for a meaningful comparison. For instance, market frontrunner BaT saw 62 out of 78 cars change hands, translating to a sell-through rate of 79%.

The average price for each sold car on Cars & Bids - a neat $24,959.

Their victory could have been even more dazzling if they had found a buyer for the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series, equipped with a potent 661-hp Turbo V12 engine. The auction for this beauty ended at $315K, just shy of the reserve according to the seller…

PORSCHE 911 MAY SALES

In yesterday’s newsletter I revealed the top selling car/models in May. Top of that list was the Porsche 911 which outsold every other model. So today I want to dive a bit deeper into those sales and how they compare to the previous month.

Here's a comparison between the top-selling Porsche 911 models in online auctions in May and April:

  9. ’19 Turbo S Cabriolet Exclusive Series

  10. ’18 (991.2) GT3 Touring $270,000

Insights:

  • The top selling Porsche 911 in May (GT2 RS Weissach - $585,000) sold for a higher price than the top selling Porsche 911 in April (911 (993) Turbo S - $495,000).

  • May's sales were dominated by the 911 GT2 RS Weissach and the 911 Speedster, with multiple appearances for each.

  • However, April's list had a more diverse array of models, including the 911 R, Turbo S, GT3 RS, Turbo Cabriolet Slant Nose, and GT3 Touring.

  • The 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster was the only model that made it into the top 10 list in both months.

  • There seems to be a shift in preference from classic and diverse models in April to more recent high-performance editions in May.

  • Notably, the 2019 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Weissach dominated the sales in May, indicating an increased demand for this high-performance variant.

  • Overall, sales prices were higher in May, which might be due to an increased demand for high-performance models such as the GT2 RS Weissach and Speedster.

  • The April top sales consisted of more diverse models and years, indicating a broader range of collectors' interests, with the Turbo S and the classic 911 R taking the top spots.

  • The average selling price of the top 10 Porsche 911 models was higher in May compared to April, with an increase of approximately $37,163.60.

If this was me reading it, I’d also want to know what the average price for all 911’s was in May and compare that to April. So here you go 😀

April Average Sale Price $94,795

May Average Sale Price $106,833

So there you have it, prices for 911’s are seemingly on the rise across the board.

Whatever June brings, I’m ready for it…

MORE AFFORDABLE 911’S

We all aspire to afford the top-end 911’s. But what is the ‘bottom’ of the 911 market looking like?

Below are the 10 cheapest 911’s you could buy in May.

For me, the ‘75 911s Targa Project was a temptation, but with no gearbox or engine, even $10,000 seems a stretch.

The best value to me is the ‘04 Carrera Cabriolet which sold for $21,161. 6-speed manual & great performance.
