Holy Grail187-Mile R129 Just Detonated The Market...

PLUS: The '63 Corvette that nearly doubled in price in less than 4 months...

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers!

Another big day in the books—$6.4 million worth of sales across all online auction platforms. And as you can see in the breakdown below, the $20K-$40K range continues to dominate, proving once again that’s where the heart of the market lives.

But the big story has to be the holy grail of R129s has surfaced. A 2001 Mercedes-Benz SL600 with just 187 miles—a true time capsule—has hit the market at No Reserve. The bidding has already gone wild, and this one has all the makings of a record-breaking sale. If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to.(scroll down)

And as always, when you think you’ve got the market figured out, it throws a curveball—just ask the seller of yesterday’s 1963 Corvette Fuelie that went from an $81K no-sale last October to a $152K final bid this time around. More on that below.

Let’s get into it.

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

Nearly a clean sweep for BaT. But we have a surprise entry into the top 5 from ACC with the sale of this beautiful Eldorado.

Want to dive deeper into any of these listings? Just click on the car to take you directly to the listing.

2021 Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano $410,000

2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Weissach $407,088

2024 Porsche 911 Dakar $345,000

2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS $216,000

1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham $210,000

Sale of the Day

Back in October this 1963 Corvette Fuelie crossed the block, and the high bid stopped at $81,000. No sale. Fast forward a few months, and the same car just sold for $152,000. That’s nearly double. Great news for one of the better sellers GenauAutoWerks.

So what happened?

Was it the No Reserve status this time around? Maybe. No safety net forces buyers to commit. Was it better timing? Could be. The classic car market moves in waves, and maybe February was simply a better month than October. Was it a few extra photos, a slightly different presentation, or just the fact that more of the right buyers were watching? All possible.

But the biggest takeaway here is how unpredictable these auctions can be. We all think we know the market. We all think we can call the final number. And then something like this happens. A comment from the auction summed it up perfectly:

"Another relist after failing to sell back in October 2024. This seems to be getting to be a much more common occurrence. I don’t think it’s the quality of the cars, but rather the uncertainty of which way the economy is going to go. Strange times. Expectations are going to have to be dialed down IMO."

And yet here we are, with a 152K final bid—a price that makes the October result look like a bargain that never was.

So was it No Reserve? Was it better market timing? Or was it just proof that none of us really know anything until the hammer drops.

Auctions To Keep An Eye On

Holy grail doesn't begin to describe it. The automotive world just stopped spinning. Legendary collector car hunter Dean Laumbach has just unveiled what might be the most significant R129 Mercedes discovery of all time - a 2001 SL600 with an earth-shattering 187 original miles, yes you read that right!! Let that sink in. This isn't just rare - it's practically impossible.

Picture this: It's 2001. The first iPod just launched. And somewhere, someone parked this V12 masterpiece... and simply walked away. For 23 years, this German thoroughbred sat dormant, preserving every single new-car detail in amber. The factory-fresh leather still releases that intoxicating new Mercedes aroma. The paint hasn't seen rain. The engine - Mercedes' legendary M120 V12 producing 389 thundering horsepower - has barely whispered its first notes.

But here's where it gets insane: This unicorn is NO RESERVE. You read that correctly. The ultimate time-capsule Mercedes flagship, equipped with the coveted SL2 Sport Package (those iconic AMG Monoblock wheels!), could be yours if you swing hard enough.

The specs read like automotive poetry:

  • The most powerful naturally-aspirated V12 of its era

  • Classic Black over Ash Nappa leather

  • Both tops (hardtop AND pristine soft top)

  • Complete documentation from factory window sticker to service records

  • Verified clean history

Bidding has already exploded past $185,000 in the first few hours. You can guarantee this will be a record R129 sale.

This isn't just a car - it's a museum piece, a time machine, and the crown jewel of Mercedes' V12 golden age all rolled into one.

The countdown is on. History is being made. Mercedes themselves should be calling their accountants - because opportunities like this come once in a lifetime, if you're lucky.

This isn't just the best R129 SL600 in existence. It might be the best one that will ever exist.

It’s impossible to follow that R129, so I have to go in a different direction here.

As many of you know, I’m not really a hypercar—or is it a megacar?—person. But this Koenigsegg Regera, this is something else.

Just look at that build sheet. Over $3.2 million when new, stacked with every option Koenigsegg could throw at it. Ghost Package. Environmental Power Upgrade. One-of-one Paint to Sample Red over a full bespoke interior. If you’re into numbers, that’s 1,757 horsepower on E85, 0-400-0 km/h in under 30 seconds, and a top speed of 249 mph. And let’s not forget that it’s just one of five spec’d like this.

To sell it, SOMO will need to break their own record—$1.8M back in December. The last Koenigsegg listed online had a pile of engagement but didn’t hit reserve at $2.74M. This one, it’s got all the right ingredients to go big.

Let’s see what happens.
