MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc..

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means Hagerty, PCarMarket and many others did not sell 5+ cars yesterday!

Tuesday saw a decent nudge upwards with a $500k increase, bringing us to a total of over $6.3m in vehicle sales. It's the little bumps that keep the journey interesting, right? 📈

Big shoutout to PCarMarket. They managed to snag the spotlight by clinching the sale of the day's most expensive vehicle. They sure know their high-end car game! 🌟

Tomorrow sales could and should increase further as there is a VERY special auction ending, highlighted below.

My Unfiltered Take On This Batmobile Sale

🦇 Holy Batmobile, Batman! 🦇

We've got a 1972 Pontiac LeMans GT here that's been turned into the iconic Batmobile. And not just any Batmobile... this beast channels the sleek, black, Michael Keaton version from '89/'92.

Link to auction here.

🔍 Quick Facts:

  • Originally a 1965 Ford Mustang. 🚗

  • Believed to be crafted by Z Cars in the UK. 🇬🇧

  • Powered by a roaring 5.7L Chevy V8. 🚀

  • 4-speed manual transmission. 🕹️

  • Over 22ft long! So yeah, you'll need a Bat Cave-sized garage for this one. 🦇🏠

🚨 RANT ALERT! 🚨 Alright, folks, let's talk about this sale price. This Batmobile was actually sold for £96,500. But, and here's the kicker, certain sneaky online auction platforms (yes, I'm looking at you, Bonhams Online) slap on their fee and suddenly, it's being marketed at £104,606. Why? Because they're sneakily including their fee in the final sale price, trying to pull the wool over our eyes, making it look like the seller hit the jackpot, which also shows potential sellers, ‘hey we can sell cars for this price’.

And get this — the bids are hidden. If you really really have some exceptional reason to show the price including fees, tell us, just say ‘Includes Seller Fees’.

I've gone down this rabbit hole before and trust me, it's a maze of misinformation and hidden agendas. We deserve TRANSPARENCY in the online auction space! This isn't some back-alley deal; it's the sale of a super cool car! And to the platforms doing this: You might think adding fees into the sale price is a smart move, but guess what? The online auction market is a different beast to the physical auction houses. I’m not one for copying another platform, you have to go your own route, but there’s a reason why BaT don’t include the sellers fee in the sold price. To me this is simply not honest. 😡 RANT OVER.

To the lucky buyer who now owns this iconic piece of automotive art, congrats! You've got yourself a piece of history. But for everyone else, let this be a lesson — always keep an eye out for the fine print. And maybe, just maybe, the world of online auctions will get its act together. 🤞

AUCTION OF THE DAY

🚀 Special Auction Alert: 1996 Porsche 911 Gunther Werks 400R Sport Touring #1 🚀

Views of the car: 48,000 (rounded)

🔥 Current Bid: $1M+ ticking! ⏳

Link to auction here.

Quick Hits:

  • Badge of Honour: This isn't just any Porsche, it's the first customer commission of the 25 coupes modified by Gunther Werks. A true collector's gem! 🌟

  • Paint Job: Chelsea Grey Commission, with a stealthy carbon-fiber body.

  • Under the Hood: A beastly Rothsport Racing-built 4.0L flat-six paired with a Getrag G50 six-speed manual transmission. 🏎️

  • Mileage: A mere 2,400 miles shown.

  • Interior: Decked out in red leather upholstery with carbon-fiber accents and a Porsche Classic Radio equipped with Apple CarPlay. 🎶

  • Extras: From the Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes to the JRZ adjustable coilovers, this car's spec list is pure drool-worthy. Not to mention the hydraulic front lift system and LED lighting!

Brief History: Crafted in the spirit of Porsche's legendary GT3, each Gunther Werks 911 is stripped to its core before being reborn with carbon-fiber body panels. This particular beauty debuted with Gunther Werks' Sport Touring package in 2018. Its allure is not just skin deep – the engine, the interior, the very soul of this car screams perfection.

Final Thoughts: Numbered editions like this don't pop up every day. It's a historic piece, a testament to automotive excellence, and in my humble opinion, an investment that'll only appreciate with time! 📈

Want to Own a Legend? Better step on the gas! This auction's going, going, and soon to be gone!

NEARLY SALE OF THE DAY

🔥 Lamborghini Alert: 2002 Murciélago Coupe 🔥

Views of the car: 42,000 (rounded)

Link to auction here.

Ended Recently:

  • High Bid: A significant $300,000, but unfortunately, it didn't sell.

Key Details:

  • Transmission: The dream - a gated 6-speed manual! 🕹️

  • Mileage: 6,800 Miles shown, but there's a twist. It's True Mileage Unknown (TMU) due to a cluster swap.

  • Location: New Canaan, CT.

  • Seller: TheCultivatedCollector.

  • Engine: A monstrous 6.2L V12 delivering 571 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. 🏎️

  • Exterior: Classic and sleek in black.

  • Interior: A luxurious combo of black and cream.

Key Features:

  • Modifications:

    • Aftermarket catless exhaust system (original exhaust included in the sale).

    • Kenwood head unit.

  • Equipment:

    • 18-inch two-piece Speedline wheels, bi-xenon headlights, front axle lift system, scissor doors, active rear air intakes, speed-activated rear spoiler, leather upholstery, and more.

My Take & The Story Behind the No-Sale: While this Murciélago fetched a handsome $300k bid, it didn't seal the deal. In my books, it's worth over $400k.

The wrinkle? A last-minute discrepancy regarding the car's actual mileage. Although the seller was transparent to a fault, the odometer reset due to a cluster swap might've made potential buyers hesitant. The transition from a precise mileage figure to an uncertain realm likely spooked some bidders. Had this been disclosed upfront, we might've seen a different outcome. But that's how the unpredictable dance of auctions sometimes plays out. 🎲

THE FLIP

From Real Estate to E-commerce and Now... Car Auctions! 🌐🚗

We've witnessed flipping strategies dominate the real estate market, seen arbitrage opportunities flourish in e-commerce, and now, this phenomenon has made a grand entry into the online car auction market. 📈

This started during COVID and now has become mainstream. Driven by the allure of exclusivity, enthusiasts are snapping up newly released cars – often hard to come by – only to flip them on auction platforms. Why? A simple but powerful economic principle: when supply is limited, demand (and prices) surge. 💹

Consider this: Over 50 brand-new 2023 models were sold in online auctions just last month! And the momentum doesn't seem to be slowing down. With every sale, it becomes evident that this trend is on an upward trajectory. 🚀

One of the many examples from September’s sales is the 2023 Porsche 911 Dakar. This car, with zero additional options, went under the hammer for a jaw-dropping $340,000. To put this into perspective, that's a markup of over $100,000 from its MSRP! 💰🤯

This phenomenon isn't just about economics; it's a testament to the passion and lengths car aficionados will go to. And as we look ahead, with the digital marketplace evolving at a blistering pace, I can only anticipate this trend to escalate further. 📊🔝

Featured below are the 2023 car sales in September. Typically, these vehicles are acquired with a singular goal in mind: to flip. On the flip side (catching the pun, right? 😉), a good number of these cars are poised to appreciate significantly in value over the coming years. This means that even today's inflated prices might seem like bargains in hindsight. Plus, it's worth noting that these auction platforms pave the way for many to obtain their dream cars – vehicles that might otherwise remain elusive.

With the growing trend of flipping newly released cars in online auctions, how do you view this phenomenon?
