Why Everyone’s Talking About This Porsche 911 Auction

PLUS: Land Rover Defender 90 NAS Limited Edition that's doing the auction site shuffle

The Daily Vroom

Good Morning Vroomers,

Today’s edition is bursting at the seams with lots to chat about. We’ve got a slew of cars to cover, some intriguing stories, and a whole lot more. So, let’s skip the small talk and dive right in.

See you tomorrow,

Sam

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.

Well well well. What do we have here? Lots to unwind from yesterday's market leaderboard, folks.

For you newbies out there, our usual leaderboard rarely contains more than the top 4 names, but today we're joined by both Hagerty & PCarMarket.

On top of that, we've got a super rare day where BaT haven't hit triple digits in sales. I mean, 92 sales ain't too shabby, but when you're smashing out 100-115 on the daily, it's a bit of a come down. A lot of that was down to fewer listings, but fear not - listings are up today and BaT will most likely be back in the triple digits before you know it.

So overall, although we've got more platforms selling 5+ vehicles, the total number of sold vehicles, as you might not be too surprised to hear, is down. But considering the number of sales, the total value of just over $6m is a very good number, all things considered. Especially on the weekend right after Monterey, when wallets are usually still recovering!

Below you'll find a breakdown of where the sales hit on the price spectrum. No surprises here - most of the action was in the $20k-$40k range. Interestingly, the average sale price landed at $42k again. It's weird how that number keeps cropping up in our daily averages. Maybe it's just a sweet spot in the current market? Either way, it's becoming a bit of a regular feature in our data.

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

Want to dive deeper into any of these listings? Just click on the car to take you directly to the listing.

2024 Lamborghini Huracan STO $397,777

1967 Porsche 911 Coupe 3.4L Twin-Plug $355,000

1992 Ferrari 512 TR $285,000

2022 Porsche 911 GT3 $241,000

1972 Porsche 911T Coupe 5-Speed $190,000

The top 5 sales yesterday showcased some truly remarkable vehicles, with photography that's simply breathtaking.

While we often see cars selling over sticker price, the 2024 Huracán STO bucked this trend despite its incredible coolness. If any car deserved to go over MSRP, this was it. The buyer made an excellent choice, securing a rare specification at a favorable price - it's hard not to feel a twinge of envy!

The 31-year-owned 1992 Ferrari 512 TR auction was a thrilling spectacle, culminating in an intense bidding war. MohrImports, true to form, presented this gem superbly as part of their standout Monterey Car Week Collection.

My personal favorite, however, was far from understated - the '72 Porsche 911T. This sensational build commanded an equally impressive price, testament to both the car's quality and the seller's reputation. It's a prime example of classic Porsche excellence taken to the next level.

The Auction Shuffle

Well, well, well. What do we have here? A 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS Limited Edition that's doing the auction site shuffle. This green beast is playing hard to get, folks!

Back in June, this rugged beauty strutted its stuff on the auction catwalk but couldn't quite seal the deal. It reached a tantalizing $78k with a Reserve Not Met. Fast forward to today, and here we are again, watching this Defender try its luck on a different stage.

Now, I've got to say, these NAS Defenders are proper head-turners in the flesh. They've got presence that'll make your neighbor's gleaming new SUV look like a bent shopping trolley. But let's not get carried away - this particular example's got more previous owners than I've had hot dinners this week. Eight, to be precise. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Here's where it gets interesting, though. This current auction's been ogled nearly 50% more than its previous appearance. But - and it's a big but - the bidding's as sluggish as a Land Rover in a bog. With just a day to go, we're sitting at a measly $48k. Sure, there might be a last-minute bidding frenzy that'd put the Pamplona bull run to shame, but right now, it's looking a bit... well, flaccid.

More views but less engagement? It's like throwing a party where everyone shows up but just stands around nursing their drinks. Come on, people! This is a Defender, not a book club!

So, will this green machine find a new home this time around? Or are we going to see it pop up on yet another auction site in a couple of months?

Auction of the Day

Today I’m highlighting one of my favorite auctions I’ve seen in a long long time.

The spotlight is on a car that’s less about bells and whistles and more about pure, unfiltered driving joy—the 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Club Sport. This isn’t your everyday 911; this is one of only 28 ever made for the U.S. market, and it’s got just 15,000 miles on the clock. The Carrera Club Sport is Porsche at its essence—stripped down, lightweight, and built for those who know that less is often more when it comes to the driving experience.

Wrapped in Grand Prix White, this car is a living, breathing piece of Porsche history. It’s got no power windows, no rear seats, and no radio, because who needs distractions when you’re behind the wheel of something this raw and visceral? It’s all about the feel of the road, the connection between driver and machine, and this particular example does it like few others can. This is pure. Clean. Unadorned. Lightweight. Simple. 3 Pedal perfection.

What makes this auction even more exciting is that the seller has full confidence in this car’s ability to command attention—so much so that it’s listed with no reserve. They’re backing this car to sell well, and with bids already at $200,000, it’s clear why. It’s rare, it’s cool, and it’s an absolute must-have for any serious Porsche collector. I can’t wait for the final hour of this one!

But more than that, it’s a reminder of what driving should be—pure, simple, and thrilling every time you hit the gas. If you’re the lucky one who takes this beauty home, you’re not just buying a car; you’re buying a piece of the Porsche legacy. Don’t let this one slip away—it’s a keeper.

Job Alert

Hold up before you start thinking there's a job offer coming your way—there isn’t. Well, unless you’re up for joining me at 10/11pm every night to write this stuff for free!

But if you’re looking for a real gig, this one might be right up your alley. No, I’m not getting paid to spotlight this role; I just figured someone out there might have the chops to thrive in this wild and fun industry.

So, what’s the job? It’s a Senior Product Designer position for Bring a Trailer. Here’s the quick rundown: They’re looking for someone passionate about personalization and the future of ML and AI. The ideal candidate should have solid experience in product design, building design systems, and working hand-in-hand with product, engineering, and business teams to craft smart, user-friendly solutions.

If this sounds like your thing, you can check out the full job description here.

Why do I always keep an eye on job postings across all these platforms?

Because they’re a goldmine for clues about what’s coming next. Just take a look at this one—machine learning, AI, and personalization are front and center. I’ll leave it at that, but I bet you can imagine the kind of ideas they’re cooking up…
