πŸš€ Is The Ford GT Recession proof?

PLUS: Yesterday's Top Sales & A Roundup of NO RESERVE Cars Up For Auction

The Daily Vroom

Happy Wednesday Vroomers,

The market was shrouded in a cloud of despair on Monday, with sell-through rates taking a nosedive.

However, Tuesday brought a silver lining, as we observed a resurgence in the sell-through rate. The numbers did show a slight uptick, and as you'll discover below, it's crucial to delve deeper to understand why these figures aren't always as straightforward as they seem.

Here’s what else I’ve got for you today:

πŸ’° Sale of the day - one awesome car!

MARKET CHANGES

I'm providing Monday's results below for a direct comparison. I've received numerous emails requesting the sell-through rates of other websites.

As I mentioned yesterday, not all auction platforms operate at the same scale as the market's heavyweights, with some listing only a few cars per day (if any). However, I've expanded the list to include some new sites for Tuesday's results. The figures below represent the sell-through rate percentages, i.e., the percentage of cars listed for auction that were successfully sold.

MONDAY 11th

Bring A Trailer 69%

Collecting Cars 44%

Cars & Bids 68%

Bonhams|Cars Online 64%

Tuesday 12th

BaT 70%

CC 67.5%

C&B 65%

Bon 50%

The other platforms that listed nearly 10 cars included:

PCarMarket: Achieved a 50% sell-through rate (we counted one that sold shortly after)

AutoHunter: Managed a 16% sell-through rate

Hemmings: Also hit a 50% sell-through rate

As I clarified yesterday, the sell-through rate doesn't fully capture the market's dynamics.

BaT was on the verge of a record-breaking sales day with 109 vehicle listings, but they've yet to surpass the 100-a-day sales milestone. It's bound to happen.

Here's the sales breakdown for you to observe the numbers from the two current largest car sellers.

As you'll observe below, the quantity of cars sold doesn't always correspond to the highest total sales or the highest average price of a car sold.

Another crucial point to remember, and this is likely the MOST significant factor to consider: This is merely a snapshot of three sets of single-day sales. As a novice data analyst, comparing data from just one day to another can lead to skewed interpretations due to various reasons:

  1. Variability and Noise: Data collected on any given day can be influenced by numerous factors and can contain a lot of noise. This variability can lead to significant differences in data from day to day. By only comparing three days, you may be comparing the effects of this noise rather than any meaningful underlying trend or pattern.

  2. Lack of Context: One day's data does not provide a broader context. It doesn't account for trends, patterns, or cycles that might be present over a longer period. For example, sales data might be higher on weekends compared to weekdays, or website traffic might spike during certain hours of the day.

  3. Outliers: A single day's data could be an outlier, not representative of the typical behavior or trend. For instance, a website might experience a surge in traffic due to a special car that’s listed, Comparing these outliers could lead to incorrect conclusions.

For these reasons, it's generally more effective to analyse data over a longer period. This allows for the identification of trends, patterns, and cycles, and helps to smooth out noise and account for outliers.

That is why in the main I’ll try to stick to longer forms of analysis than one day.

SALE OF THE DAY

🏎 2006 FORD GT HERITAGE EDITION

πŸš€ Rising Value πŸ“ˆ

The 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition is not just a car, it's an investment! This beauty was sold back in 2020 for $380,000 on BaT, and now it just fetched a whopping $547,000! That's a significant appreciation in just three years. Clearly, the market for this iconic model is heating up. πŸ”₯

🎨 Exterior πŸš—

The Ford GT takes inspiration from the GT40 racing cars of the 1960s, featuring an extruded-aluminum space frame, roll-bonded floors, and aluminum body panels. The Heritage Edition sports a Gulf-inspired blue and orange livery, reminiscent of the 1968 and 1969 Le Mans-winning GT40.

🏎️ Performance 🏁 (for the geeks among you like me)

Under the hood, the mid-mounted 5.4-liter DOHC V8 features an aluminum block, cylinder heads, and pistons, along with a Lysholm screw-type supercharger, a dry-sump lubrication system, and a water-to-air intercooler. The factory-rated output was 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, all sent to the rear wheels through a Ricardo six-speed manual transaxle and a helical limited-slip differential.

πŸ›‹οΈ Interior 🏠

The cockpit is trimmed in Ebony leather, with manually adjustable seats designed by Sparco featuring carbon-fiber shells with GT40-style ventilation grommets and harness slots.

πŸ” Notable Features πŸ“Œ

The Heritage Edition is one of only 343 produced, making it a rare find for collectors. It was factory optioned with forged aluminum BBS wheels and a McIntosh stereo system. The car has only 4,700 miles on the clock!

πŸ“š History πŸ“–

This particular Ford GT has a history in California and Montana, and it was acquired by the current owner on BaT in May 2020.

Let’s be real here, this 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition is not just a car; it's a piece of automotive history, a tribute to the legendary GT40, and a solid investment. And with its rising value, it's clear that the market agrees! πŸš€πŸ“ˆπŸŽ‰

NEARLY SALE OF THE DAY

πŸš€ 2022 Acura NSX Type S

Final Bid: $211,500

Super rare, under-appreciated car that is struggling to sell recently. Here’s the specs on this beauty.

🎨 Exterior: This 2022 Acura NSX Type S is a sight to behold, finished in a stunning Long Beach Blue Pearl. It's not just a pretty face though, this car is one of only 350 produced worldwide, making it a rare gem. The exterior design is inspired by the legendary GT40 racing cars of the 1960s, featuring a vented hood, side air intakes, and a carbon fiber rear decklid spoiler. The car also boasts 19-inch front and 20-inch rear 5-spoke performance wheels, adding to its sporty appeal. 🏁

πŸ›‹οΈ Interior: Step inside and you'll find an Orchid interior that perfectly complements the exterior. The cockpit is trimmed in Ebony leather, and rubber mats cover bare aluminum floors. The seats are manually adjustable, designed by Sparco, and feature carbon-fiber shells with GT40-style ventilation grommets and harness slots.

πŸ”§ Performance: Under the hood, the NSX Type S is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 linked to a three-motor hybrid system, delivering a combined output of 600 horsepower and 492 lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. 🏎️

πŸ˜• Why It Didn't Sell: Despite its impressive specs and limited production, the 2022 Acura NSX Type S failed to sell yesterdayn, with the highest bid reaching only $211,500.

This could be due to a recent downward trend in the market for these cars, with three other auctions since mid-January also failing to result in a sale. The highest bid in these auctions was $235,000. If you’re one of the lucky 350 to have one of these and you wanna sell, I would advise to hold on. Being 1 of 350 means the value will always be there, just need to ride it out for now!
