Generosity Personified: Stunning Bronco Charity Auction

PLUS: Dealers vs Private Party

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers!

The positive response to yesterday's breakdown of BaT's revenue was overwhelming! I'm thrilled so many of you found that financial transparency insightful. Rest assured, we have more detailed revenue deep dives planned for all the platforms in the near future. Your enthusiasm for this type of behind-the-scenes look into the platforms is incredibly motivating.

Often the best stories aren't just about amazing cars, but the amazing people behind them. Today I want to highlight an alumni listing that is a heartwarming tale of automotive passion meeting human generosity. Get ready to be inspired by the selfless act of an enthusiast who turned their pristine classic into a charitable force for good.

Catch you tomorrow - Sam

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

The reserve sell-through rate is just for cars that are listed with a reserve. The full sell-through rate includes all auctions, reserve and no-reserve.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below.

I had to double-check the results yesterday, and it turns out BaT 'only' sold 67 vehicles. It looks like they had a relatively quiet day with fewer than 100 vehicle listings. But don't worry—today, they'll be back to normal with 125 listings.

Overall, it was a solid day for the more well-known established platforms, as you'll see below. Despite the overall number of vehicles being considerably lower, the actual sales figure of just shy of $6 million is better than your average Monday.

Analyzing the range of prices sold, we can see that nearly half of all sales fall into the lower end bracket of $10k-$40k. Notably, sales above $100k account for 12.3%, which is above the daily average.

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

It was a pretty darn good day yesterday for Cars & Bids, with three $100k+ sales. As comparison last week, they had five over the course of seven days.

Not surprisingly for them, a Lamborghini was their top seller. There was the usual remark of a steal, but I think it’s pretty spot-on for a 1991 Lamborghini Diablo Coupe at $275,000. BaT sold one for $305k in January with double the mileage. PCarMarket had the same car listed three months ago, and it only bid up to $238k.

Speaking of PCarMarket, they resold this 1989 Land Rover Defender 90 LS3 for $175k after it was sold on their site back in 2021 for $250,000. I think that’s a pretty good deal for the buyer. (bidding war at the end was fun to watch!).

2005 Ford GT $417,000

1992 Ferrari 512 TR $280,512

1991 Lamborghini Diablo Coupe $275,000

1991 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera Cup $214,650

1989 Land Rover Defender 90 LS3 by Arkonik $175,000

Dealership vs Private Party

I got an email yesterday asking if we could track Dealer vs. Private Party listings. Of course we can! We actually track and analyze a ton of data, but there's only so much we can cram into a short, daily newsletter. That being said, I was curious about those numbers myself, so I fired up my 'analyzer machine,' and here are the results.

On BaT, 61% of the listings come from private parties, with dealers making up the remaining 39%. Private party cars sold at a solid 69%, while dealer vehicles had a 59% sell-through rate.

It seems like Cars & Bids might want to consider listing more dealer cars given their impressive 100% sell-through rate—although, it's just a single day's snapshot, so take it with a grain of salt!

Alumni Sales

Below are the top 5 Alumni sales yesterday. The arrows in the diagram below show whether the vehicle sale has gone down or up in value.

The BaT alumni listings always seem to have a higher success rate, and yesterday was no exception. But there's one vehicle that truly stood out - a 1974 Ford Bronco Ranger listed by the seller 'AdamsPolishes.' This guy is an absolute legend. A few years ago, he purchased this Bronco and poured a ton of money into restoring it to perfection. Just read through the listing and comments to see the incredible work he's done.

The remarkable thing is, he decided to auction it off for charity. And get this, it's not even the first time he's done something like this! Major kudos to 'adampolishes' for taking an already nice Bronco, elevating it to the next level through hard work and investment, and then generously donating the proceeds to a great cause.

There are still good people in this world, and sellers like him deserve to be celebrated. The awareness and fundraising he's bringing to the Freedom Youth Foundation is just amazing. As for the lucky buyer, they've scored an absolute gem. These original Broncos offer an experience that modern recreations simply can't match. They capture the rugged spirit we all admired flipping through 4x4 magazines as kids, instead of being over-styled caricatures. You can't fake that authentic vintage appeal.
