MARKET LEADERBOARD

πŸ’° The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc..

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means Hagerty, Hemmings and many others did not sell 5 cars yesterday!

The market leaderboard might look a bit slim with just four platforms making the cut, but let me tell you – appearances can be deceiving. Just yesterday, a whopping $8 million in vehicle sales went down. That's a solid $2.5 million over what we usually see on a Monday. And remember Friday? A cool $9 million in sales. What's going on here?

In the past month or so, it's like there's a steady stream of high-ticket cars hitting the finish line. Maybe it's folks treating themselves to a holiday splurge, or perhaps it's something else entirely. Either way, it's a trend worth keeping an eye on.

Looking ahead, there's no shortage of jaw-dropping rides heading to auction. But let's not forget, while those supercar sales grab headlines, the real backbone of most auction platforms are the more attainable rides – the ones that go for $10k, $20k, $30k. That's where the real action is.

DECLINING PRICE OF THE FORD GT

Let's talk about the recent auction that's got everyone buzzing. The star? A 2021 Ford GT '66 Heritage Edition, which just found a new home for $1,205,034 in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. But here's where it gets intriguing.

Earlier this year, in March, a similar GT '66 with a mere 12 miles on the dial sold for $1,451,000 in Bedford, NY. Come August, another one, clocking in at 14 miles, went for $1,385,000 in Henderson, NV. Now, with our latest auction, we've got a GT with 353 miles selling for significantly less.

This pattern raises a big question: Is it the mileage, or are current market conditions the real player here? Sure, the mileage difference between the first two sales was nominal, yet there was a drop in price. And now, with a more 'experienced' GT, we see a steeper decline.

So, what's driving these numbers? Is it just about how many miles these beauties have cruised, or is there something bigger at play in the market?

What do you think? I'd love to hear your take on this?

GEORGE FOREMAN COLLECTION AUCTION

Hold onto your steering wheels because George Foreman, the boxing champ and grill master, is shaking up the car collector world. He's putting up an eye-popping 52 luxury cars for auction through Hagerty Marketplace. This move is a head-turner, especially since Hagerty hasn't been a heavyweight in the online auction ring. And guess what? Every single car is going without reserve. Talk about raising the stakes!

Foreman's collection is like a walk through automotive history, spanning from a 1931 Ford Model A Cabriolet to a 2005 Ford GT, and everything in between. It's a kaleidoscope of marques, including the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, and even a Tesla Roadster. Each car tells a story, and the variety is staggering.

What's fascinating here is the no-reserve policy. It's a bold move that's sure to attract a swarm of bidders. And let's face it, that strategy might just drive the final prices sky-high. Hagerty's decision to play host to this auction is intriguing. Is this their strategy to carve out a bigger name in the auction world?

But here's a thought – can Hagerty sustain this momentum? Foreman's collection is a tough act to follow. How many collections out there can match this level of diversity and quality? Or will Hagerty be using this as a springboard to attract more individual/dealer sellers which they so badly need?

Lets talk about the variety of vehicles on offer – from a Corvette Split Window (yes please) to a Plymouth Prowler with leopard-print flames (reportedly once owned by Dennis Rodman), and a Tesla Roadster that's been inoperable since 2017. It's a mix of the sublime and the, well, frankly ludicrous.

This auction is not just about selling cars; it's about storytelling and the passion behind each vehicle. It's about a collection that reflects a personality as diverse and eclectic as Foreman's own life. It's a reminder that in the world of car collecting, it's not just the make and model that counts, but the stories they carry and the hands they've passed through.

So, what's your take? Is Hagerty stepping up to become a new force in the car auction world? And what do you think about the no-reserve policy? One thing's for sure – it's going to be an exhilarating ride watching this unfold.

Auctions end between the 11th-21st December. So long long auctions.
