Hagerty’s Nethercutt Sale Is a Case Study in Trust
PLUS: Car & Classic flexes with a €620K GT and a growing European footprint...
The Daily Vroom
Good morning Vroomers,
Yesterday brought another barnstorming day across the online platforms, with over $8.1 million in vehicle sales. But while we saw some strong numbers, only 7.8% of those sales crossed the six-figure mark, a reminder that while the market is active, top-dollar results remain reserved for standout listings.
Today, we’re tracking another headline car on Car & Classic that signals a shift in their seller mix, digging into Hagerty’s latest no reserve collection (they’ve quietly cornered that market), and recapping yesterday’s five biggest sales.
Let’s get into it.

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

Car & Classic Is on a Streak
Last month, we pointed out an interesting trend on Car & Classic: higher-priced inventory starting to creep into the platform’s feed. One particular sale stood out, a strong result that seemed to mark a turning point. I was told more were coming.
And sure enough, today’s headliner is a big one.
A 2021 Ford GT, one of just 1,350 built, showing only 24 kilometers, finished in Heritage Blue with Wimbledon White stripes, is already at €620,000 with time still on the clock. It’s loaded with carbon fiber, fitted with an Akrapovic exhaust, and looks factory fresh. The kind of listing you’d expect at RM or Gooding. But here it is, on Car & Classic.
That’s the signal.
Car & Classic typically lists around 30 vehicles a day. When higher-dollar cars like this show up and get traction it shows the platform has room to stretch. Not fewer quirky classics. Just more visibility, more sellers, and a broader ceiling. The audience is there. Over 4 million visits a month. The European online auction space is heating up fast. Our US platforms could learn something from our European counterparts.
Big sales don’t change what Car & Classic is. They change what’s possible.
Let’s see what the hammer says.

Another Collection, Another Win for Hagerty
At this point I feel like I’m on repeat. Hagerty just gets how to sell collections. This time it is the legendary Nethercutt Collection. a no reserve sale featuring 45 vehicles, nearly all of them prewar, many long held, and all straight out of Sylmar, California.
And once again, it is working.
The cars range from a 90K 1904 Winton Runabout to five thousand dollar sedans from the 1920s. But the real story here is not any single lot. It is the way Hagerty consistently manages to frame these collections as history in motion, not liquidation.
They lean into legacy. This is not a fire sale. It is a thoughtful moment in the life of a world class museum. The messaging from the Nethercutt team was clear — we have owned many of these cars for over 50 years, and it is time to find them new stewards. Hagerty took that narrative and built a week of compelling listings around it.
And here is what stands out, no one else seems to be doing this at scale.
Selling 45 cars at no reserve from a single owner should be a full court press moment for any platform. Yet Hagerty is the one consistently making it happen. This is how you become the trusted home for estates, downsizing collectors, and museums looking to refine. You do not just list cars. You tell a story. You give the audience confidence. And you back it all with a clean format, no reserve listings, and a pitch that does not feel like a clearance aisle.
The Nethercutt cars are not million dollar centerpieces. They are charming, specific, full of history and most of all, approachable. A 1911 Oldsmobile Limited engine and chassis. A 1928 Lincoln Club Roadster. A 1988 Rolls Royce Silver Spur. Even a Honda Insight. It is eclectic but cohesive, and it is generating real interest.
And here is the ripple effect, one successful collection sale leads to the next. Word gets around. Sellers talk. Estates pay attention. Suddenly, Hagerty is not just an option, they are the collection specialists. Trusted. Consistent. Safe hands with a white glove feel and a modern edge.
Because once again, Hagerty just showed how powerful a great collection can be when presented the right way and why more are sure to follow.
