The Daily Vroom

Hey there Vroomers,

Hope you all had a fantastic long weekend! We're back in action, and boy, is the online market keeping us on our toes.

Now, about yesterday - seems like the market’s sales figures were nursing a bit of a holiday hangover. Sales clocked in at $5.7 million, which is a bit below the usual daily hustle. But hey, that's what happens when we're all busy soaking up that extra day off, right.

Lots of exciting stuff brewing in the market. Can't wait to dive into it all with you.

Catch you bright and early tomorrow!

Sam

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

The top five sales from yesterday were led by an original-owner 2006 Ford GT, which fetched an impressive $421k—a fair price for a low-mileage, single-owner example in that sleek Tungsten Grey.

Next up was the stunning 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window Coupe, which sold for $345k, adding another gem to a collector who already has quite the collection of Corvettes.

A 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello found a new home for $182,000; this European-based car had its first-time seller over the moon with the price, and the buyer equally thrilled to add this understated V12 beauty to their garage.

The 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante sold for $189,000, and it’s easy to see why with its flashy Rosso Mars paint and low mileage.

Rounding out the list was a 2023 Bentley Continental GTC Speed, a car we rarely see up for auction, selling for $285k, offering the ultimate in luxury and performance with its W12 engine and drop-top glamour.

Bargain of the Day?

When we talk about supercar bargains, it’s not often you find a deal that has you clapping at your computer screen. But that’s exactly what happened with the sale of a 2013 McLaren MP4-12C Spider yesterday for just $95,500. This isn’t just any car; it’s a 616-horsepower beast with a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8, a clean Carfax, and only 18,000 miles on the clock.

The MP4-12C Spider was McLaren’s first major foray back into the road car world after the iconic F1, and they didn’t hold back. With a lightweight carbon fiber chassis, dihedral doors, and a sleek Supernova Silver exterior, this car combines performance and aesthetics in a way that few others can. The added sport exhaust system enhances the driving experience by bringing the roar of the V8 to life, turning heads wherever it goes.

So, why was this the bargain of the day? Simply put, you’re getting supercar performance for less than the price of a high-end luxury sedan. Similar McLaren models often fetch well over $120,000+ especially those with low mileage and no accident history. The additional features like the Vorsteiner carbon fiber side skirts and rear wing only add to the vehicle's allure.

In a world where most cars drop in value faster than a stone in a pond, this McLaren seems to float above it all, defying the odds and proving that true style and performance never go out of fashion.

Auction Buzz But No Sale

Despite the buzz around this one-of-a-kind 1986 Lamborghini LM002 'Wagon' once owned by the Sultan of Brunei, the auction didn't hit the mark. The highest bid reached €583,000 within the last hour, and there were no bids for 5 days going into the last hour of the auction, causing the momentum to fizzle out. This rare beast, a custom creation with only three ever made, remains a mystery, as the whereabouts of the other two are unknown.

From Royalty to the School Run

Originally a standard LM002 pickup, this vehicle was transformed into a 'Wagon' by the famed coachbuilder Salvatore Diomante to meet the Sultan’s extravagant tastes. This 'Rambo Lambo' boasts a 5.2-liter V12 engine and luxurious touches, making it a truly unique vehicle. It spent time in Germany with former VW and BMW CEO Bernd Pischetsrieder before finding its way to Sweden, where it served as a daily driver for a Swedish woman, chauffeuring her kids to school—a far cry from its royal beginnings.

High Interest, But Location Challenges

Despite racking up nearly 50,000 views, the LM002 'Wagon' still didn’t sell. Location could have been a factor—buyers in the US often prefer vehicles already stateside, avoiding the hassle and complications of importing. While platforms like Collecting Cars have managed to successfully sell vehicles across Europe at all price points, thanks to dedicated teams in those markets, SBX appears to be casting a wide net with vehicles from all over the world, relying heavily on buzz to make sales. But selling cars internationally is about more than just hype; it requires logistics, market presence, and dedicated support, areas where SBX seems to be struggling.

Looking for a Turnaround

The last successful auction for SBX was back on July 24th, for a Cybertruck. We've been saying for a while that something needs to change at SBX, but from what I'm hearing, nothing has shifted yet. I'd love to see them get it right, but it's not looking too hopeful at the moment. That being said, there's always a silver lining—SBX has some really interesting cars coming up for auction, so maybe the next big success is just around the corner 🤔

Project Nasty: The Ultimate 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Beast Up for Auction

The seller 911r always brings the heat with his auctions, and this one packs a huge amount of it. Joey Seely’s “Project Nasty” 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is up for grabs, and this car is nothing short of legendary. With a current bid of $245,000 and only a few hours to go, this meticulously re-engineered machine is turning heads and lighting up the comments section—94 comments and counting!

"Project Nasty" isn’t just a car; it's a beast that captures the raw essence of the Porsche 911. Joey Seely from E-Motion Engineering has taken a classic 1985 Carrera and turned it into a powerhouse of raw power and precision. This isn’t just a restomod; it’s 17 years of passion and engineering genius packed into a 3.6-liter flat-six that looks as mean as it drives.

The details set it apart: custom-ground Elgin camshafts, Mahle Motorsport pistons, and a 991 GT2 RS titanium muffler combine to deliver a symphony of speed and power. Hand-flared fenders, a carbon-fiber hood, and 18″ BBS E88 wheels give it a stance that says, "don’t mess with me."

Inside, it’s all about the drive. Recaro seats, Schroth harnesses, a roll cage, and an Alcantara-clad cockpit make it feel like a race car for the road. It’s raw, visceral, and everything a true driving enthusiast craves. This car is a tribute to everything that makes Porsche legendary, and whoever wins this auction is not just buying a car—they're taking home a piece of automotive art and history.

What makes “Project Nasty” so cool is that it’s built for those who know that driving isn't just about getting from point A to B. It’s about the thrill, the experience, and the connection between man and machine. This 911 embodies all of that and more, making it one of the most exciting auctions of the year.
