Holiday Sales Surge: Big Numbers & Bigger Surprises!

PLUS: Why the 2023 Dodge Challenger is flipping crazy

The Daily Vroom

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays, Vroomers!

I hope you've all enjoyed some chill time with your families. I'd love to say I took a complete break from the online auction scene, but truth be told, I was knee-deep in numbers all weekend. Don't worry, though – I did hit pause on Christmas Day to kick back with the family and binge some classic holiday flicks.

Now, onto the juicy stuff. Sure, sales might take a brief hiatus now and then, but one thing's crystal clear – the numbers just keep climbing.

And hey, a big shoutout to all the new folks who hopped on board over the weekend. Super pumped to have you with us on this ride.

MARKET LEADERBOARD

Hey everyone, quick heads-up – we won't have our usual Market Leaderboard today. I get it, it's a crowd favorite, and I'm just as bummed about it. Turns out, a bunch of auction sites took a day off yesterday. But don't worry, it's a one-day thing. More auctions are happening today, so we're all set for a fresh Leaderboard tomorrow.

Still, I've got a roundup for you from yesterday. You might think the numbers would be down with fewer auctions right after Christmas, right? Well, think again. Instead of the usual $6m in sales for a typical Tuesday, we hit over $8m! And get this: BaT snagged a whopping 87.5% of those sales.

Now, we do get the odd spike, like the near $3m in sales on BaT that I'm breaking down below, which can throw off our averages. But hey, that's the nature of the game, and we roll with it. The average is what it is, and today it's looking pretty impressive.

Before we dive into the top 5 sales from yesterday, I've got to spill the beans on the amazing sales from Friday and Saturday. We're talking nearly $13 million in sales! Remember my article a few weeks ago about weekday vs. weekend auctions? Well, the weekend just proved again why it's the big league.

The star of the show was a jaw-dropping 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster that went for a cool $1,522,000. And that's not all. There was a 2021 Ford GT that nearly hit the $1 million mark and a 2020 Ferrari 488 Pista Spider - Tailor Made that fetched $446,000.

Plus, a whole lineup of other incredible pre-Christmas sales. It's no wonder everyone's itching to jump into this market.

2014 Pagani Huayra -$2,888,888

SALES FRENZY CONTINUES: BIG NUMBERS KEEP ROLLING IN

Yesterday on Bring a Trailer, they knocked it out of the park with a real jaw-dropper of a sale. A 592-mile 2014 Pagani Huayra found a new home for a staggering $2,888,888. Now, this wasn't just another high sale; it topped their charts for the year and snagged the fourth spot in their highest sales ever.

The best part? The guy who scooped it up is brand new to BaT. I like to imagine him unwinding in some fancy private club, shvitzing in the sauna, when he hears about the auction from his banker and decides, on a whim, “That’s my car.” Just like that, he throws down seven bids and seals the deal on his first, but certainly not last, BaT purchase as he comments he’s ready for more!

Now, let's talk about the car. It's a 2010s Italian Pagani. The heart of this beast is a 6.0-liter Mercedes-AMG V12, twin-turbocharged for that extra kick. Its body is a sleek blend of carbon and titanium, decked out in clear-coated carbon fiber. And it's loaded with top-tier features like Brembo brakes, Öhlins coilovers, and an exhaust system that’s a combo of titanium and Inconel. The interior? Oh, it's all luxury with tan leather, a touchscreen, and a high-end Sonus Faber sound system.

The auction itself? A total spectacle with over 78,000 views and 4,000+ watchers. It really drives home the point: who needs to trek across the country to physical auctions when you can land dream cars like this online?

BaT and others are really changing the game, making high-stakes sales feel like a blockbuster event. It's almost cinematic, the way these online auctions are reshaping the car collector's world.

The best part for buyers aside from winning the car is the ridiculously low $5k fee for such a high priced vehicles. I have some thoughts about this, that I’ll be sharing in my year-end review next week- stay tuned…

AUCTIONS TO KEEP AN 👀 ON

Alright, I've been digging around in the world of online car auctions – trust me, it's been a bit of a wild ride. Some of these sites? Let's just say, navigating them was more challenging than trying to solve a Rubik's cube in the dark. But hey, I've done the legwork for you. You can thank me with a coffee later. I've handpicked 10 really interesting cars, and get this, each one's from a different auction site. It's like a tour of the online car auction universe, but you don't have to deal with the headache of clicking through a maze of links.

Flipping Success: The 2023 Dodge Challenger's Market Appeal

Looking at the car market in 2023, it's clear that the trend of flipping cars is still going strong, even though we're past the peak of the COVID era. There's still good money to be made. Among the top models that have seen significant action in the flipping market this past year, and especially in recent months, is the 2023 Dodge Challenger.

This muscle car is more than just a fast set of wheels. Its range of powerful engines and the mix of a retro yet modern design make it a hot pick. Dodge keeps things interesting with limited-edition releases, which are a huge draw for collectors and enthusiasts. And it's not just about the car's looks or performance; the Challenger's name carries a heritage, a symbol of American muscle car culture.

For flippers, this car isn't just about driving a cool car; it's an investment. The right model, particularly those exclusive editions, can see a significant increase in value, making the 2023 Dodge Challenger a smart choice in the flipping game.

What I find amusing is that in nearly every auction listing, the seller almost always makes an excuse why they are selling. Why not just be honest and say I’m trying to make a quick buck 🤷🏻‍♂️?
