PLUS: Why This Jaguar Is The Most Beautiful Car Sold This Year

The Daily Vroom

Good Morning Vroomers,

Today's a bit different from our usual focus. Instead of zeroing in on one platform or make, we're spreading the love across six different auction sites. What's cool is that two of these rarely get a shout-out here due to their typically low sales volume. But when they list or sell something that catches my eye, you bet I'm gonna share it with you all.

Just to give you a peek behind the curtain, I'm sifting through 20+ sites daily. That's a whole lotta metal to keep tabs on, but it means we catch some real gems that might otherwise slip under the radar.

See you tomorrow,

Sam

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.

YESTERDAY’S TOP SALES

I love seeing the top sales being shared around which happened yesterday with BaT, Collecting Cars, SOMO & Bonhams Online all featuring.

Speaking of Bonhams Online, that U.K. site just sold a 2006 Ford GT for $260,000. That sounds like a crazy cheap price for what you're getting. As I've said before, there are real 'bargains' on that side of the pond. The market for us Americans to bring cars over is small since many don't want to deal with importing - so the competition is less.

This GT is a prime example of the value you can find if you're willing to navigate the import process. For a supercar with such pedigree and performance, $260K is a steal compared to U.S. prices. It just goes to show that keeping an eye on international auctions can pay off big time for savvy collectors willing to put in a little extra legwork.

Barn Find Beauty: '90 Mercedes 190E Evo II - Raw DTM Legend Emerges

You need to check out this wild barn find from The MB Market - a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II. It's number 247 out of only 502 ever made. This baby was stashed away in London for years until the Patina Collective sniffed it out in 2022.

It's got just 45k kilometers on the clock, which is like nothing for a 34-year-old car. Rocking that sexy Blue Black Metallic paint over Anthracite leather inside. Under the hood, you've got a Cosworth-tuned 2.5-liter inline-four pushing 232 horses through a dogleg 5-speed manual.

Now, it certainly isn’t pristine - there's some wear and tear, a few dings and scrapes, and some clear coat issues. But that's part of its charm, right? It runs and drives, but could use a little TLC to get it back to its glory days.

This is the kind of rare beast that serious collectors drool over. You could polish it up a bit or just leave it as-is to preserve that sweet, sweet patina. Either way, you're looking at a piece of Mercedes and DTM racing history.

The Most Beautiful Car Sold This Year?

This 1993 Jaguar XJ220 is not just a car; it’s a masterpiece, a stunning example of British engineering and design. With only 280 examples ever made, this XJ220 stands out as one of the most beautiful and sleek supercars ever crafted. Its Spa Silver bodywork paired with Charcoal leather creates a combination that’s both timeless and striking. The XJ220 isn’t just about looks, though—it’s powered by one of the most formidable V6 engines ever placed in a supercar, delivering a driving experience that’s second to none.

Now, let’s talk about that knockout bid. The buyer knew exactly what they were doing, coming in with a bid $100k over the last one, sealing the deal with authority. It’s a move that says, “I know the value here, and it’s only going up.” The comments are buzzing about whether this rare beauty will see the open road or stay locked away as the ultimate collector’s item. Whatever the future holds, one thing’s for sure: this XJ220 is a smart investment, and its new owner is someone who understands that greatness doesn’t just sit in the garage—it commands it.

SBX CARS UPDATE

Alright, let's dive into this SBX situation again, shall we? We're back to the same old song and dance - can they actually close the deal on one of their listings through auction? And let me tell you, there are no gimme Cybertruck sales to pad the numbers this time around. They're really gonna have to pull out all the stops to make something happen here.

From what I can see, they're still quite a ways off from hitting those reserves. Take that 2020 Bugatti Chiron Sport, for instance. Current bid's sitting pretty at €1,720,000, but I'd bet my bottom dollar there's still a long road ahead to meet that reserve.

Now, let's talk about that 2002 BMW Z8 Roadster. This baby's been around the block a few times with this dealer. Last time it hit the auction block, it topped out at $184k. But get this - the dealer's got it listed on their website for a cool $225k. I'm wondering if that's still the magic number they're chasing.

Here's the thing - I get the game these dealers are playing. They're hopping from site to site with their inventory, hoping some audience will finally take the bait. It's a numbers game, pure and simple.

But here's what I'm curious about - are most buyers out there doing their homework like I do? I mean, I'm always digging into the history, checking where these cars have sold before, where they're currently listed. Am I the only one going full detective mode here? Or are some folks out there just seeing a shiny car and pulling the trigger without the full picture?
