🕶 James Bond DB5 Up For Auction...

🚚 PLUS: Is this the most fun auction BaT have ever had?

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers…

I've received numerous emails from you, inquiring about the return of the market leaderboard with the sell-through rate. Don't worry, it was only temporarily on hold for a few days 😉 as we showcased some fresh content. However, it's undeniably a fan favorite, and you can expect it to make its appearance most days. This isn't just informative for you; it's also a valuable resource for me. I relish keeping tabs on the performance of each site, and with 15+ sites currently under scrutiny, there's always something interesting to uncover!

With that said, I hope you'll stick around until the end of this newsletter where we've reserved a special spot for our "Community Corner" section. Here, I'll be bringing you up to speed with the feedback we've received, including poll results and emails from all of you.

I have an action packed edition today, so lets get right into it.

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc..

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means Hagerty, PCarMarket, Hemmings and many others did not sell 5 cars yesterday!

I'd love to see a more expansive leaderboard, but for now, it's clear that the same top 4 players continue to dominate the current sales scene. I'm aiming for a larger and more comprehensive table, even if it means putting in some extra effort.

Yesterday was a great day for the entire market, witnessing transactions worth over $7 million, with an impressive $5 million attributed to Bring A Trailer. As we look at the auctions closing today, my hunch is that we won't quite reach the $7 million mark. Rest assured, I'll be back tomorrow to provide the latest updates on these figures.

HOW PLATFORMS CAN INCREASE SALES & TRUST AT THE SAME

I'm constantly brainstorming fresh ideas to enhance the automotive market for both buyers and sellers, as well as the auction platforms themselves (I've got a treasure trove of ideas up my sleeve).

However, today, I'd like to keep things simple and present a proposition for auction sites that I'm convinced will boost their bottom line while greatly benefiting both buyers and sellers. What's truly remarkable to me about this (idea is that it's yet to be adopted, and it can be put into action today at minimal cost.

So, what's the idea? It's Live Support. Let's address its potential drawbacks too.

Instant Assistance: Picture this—you're a buyer or seller, and you can get immediate answers to your questions. Live Support offers this advantage by swiftly and efficiently addressing inquiries. It's akin to having a knowledgeable friend right by your side during your auction journey. 🤝 Yes, auction sites do feature Q&A sections and comments, but Live Support can be exceptionally valuable for specific queries, such as obtaining a shipping quote (even if there's a shipping widget available—some users might miss that, and you can provide the quote yourself).

Building Trust: Trust is the bedrock of online transactions. When users know they can rely on Live Support, it instills confidence. Buyers feel more at ease placing bids, and sellers can list their vehicles with peace of mind. It's a win-win scenario that can will lead to increased sales. 💰

Standing Out: In today's fiercely competitive marketplace, setting yourself apart is crucial. Leveraging Live Support as a unique selling proposition distinguishes your auction platform. It communicates a commitment to user satisfaction and can be a game-changer in attracting more buyers and sellers. 🏆

Chat Bots: Even if auction platforms lack the resources for continuous live monitoring, chatbots can step in as a valuable alternative. They can handle common questions and seamlessly guide users to real live support when necessary.

This isn't a convoluted concept; it's a straightforward solution with profound potential. So, whether you're a buyer, seller, or simply an online auction enthusiast, consider the impact of Live Support. Speaking from experience, having quick answers to questions when perusing an auction can positively influence my decision—not only to bid on a car but also to list one, knowing that the platform is responsive.

Now, let's address some potential drawbacks:

Costly to Manage: Managing Live Support may seem expensive, but platforms can either have multiple personnel handling it simultaneously or build out answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Limited Availability: You don't need to provide support 24/7. You can have chat support available during regular work hours and include a comment box, like many e-commerce sites, for users to submit questions that you can answer later.

'Stupid' Questions: Some users may ask seemingly basic questions repeatedly. However, platforms can proactively provide answers to common questions, such as fees, to mitigate this.

The truth is, there's really no downside to implementing Live Support. A single well-informed response about mileage, condition, inspection, or shipping can easily lead to a sale. Isn't that worth trying out, even on a trial basis? Auction platforms could even dip their toes in the water one day a week. So, who's going to take the plunge first? Let's watch and see. 👀.

As always I’m keen to hear your feedback.

Do you believe that implementing Live Support on online auction platforms would enhance the buying and selling experience?

FUN AUCTION OF THE DAY

Embarking on a Nostalgic Journey: 🚗🏍️

What we have here is a unique duo—a well-preserved 1973 Datsun 620 Pickup and its adventurous companion, a 1973 Yamaha CT3 Enduro 175 motorcycle. And the best part? It's a "No Reserve" auction, so the excitement is sure to soar!

A Ride Back in Time: As I explore this listing, what strikes me is the perfect pairing of this classic Datsun pickup and the rugged Yamaha Enduro motorcycle. It's like stepping into a time capsule, heading straight back to the 1970s, a time when these vehicles ruled the roads and trails.

A Slice of California History: These gems are currently calling sunny El Cajon, their home. Being in the heart of California, a place known for its automotive culture, only adds to the allure of this auction. The spirit of cruising along the California coast in these classics is hard to resist. (trust me i know this living here!)

Unveiling the Datsun's Secrets: Underneath the Datsun's timeless orange exterior lies a hidden treasure—a 1.7-Liter L16 Inline-Four engine paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The custom cloth upholstery, polished Appliance Wheels, and other distinctive features make this pickup a true head-turner.

Meet the Yamaha CT3 Enduro 175: But let's not forget the real star of the show—the 1973 Yamaha CT3 Enduro 175. It's not just a motorcycle; it's an invitation to adventure. With its vintage charm and legendary Yamaha reliability, it's a bike that promises thrills on both roads and off the beaten path.

Double the Joy: What makes this auction even more enticing is the fact that it's a package deal. Bidding in this "No Reserve" auction means you could be the proud owner of both of these iconic vehicles. Whether you're a collector, rider, or simply someone who appreciates classic vehicles, this pair offers something special.

AUCTION OF THE DAY

1964 Aston Martin DB5: Unleash Your Inner James Bond and Channel Your Inner Sean Connery! 🕶️🍸

🔗 Link to auction here.

Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on this quintessential British masterpiece—a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 that exudes pure elegance and sophistication. This isn't just a car; it's an icon, a legend, and yes, it's the very same model that graced the silver screen in the classic James Bond film, Goldfinger. Can you hear the 007 theme music playing?

Power and Performance: Beneath the bonnet lies a numbers-matching straight-six engine, a true work of art. But here's the twist: it has undergone an RS Williams 4.7-liter rebuild and upgrade. Imagine the thrill of commanding 250bhp through the rear wheels, thanks to the five-speed manual gearbox. This Aston is built for those who appreciate power and performance.

A Globe-Trotting Beauty: Originally delivered to its first owner in Kent, UK, this DB5 embarked on an adventurous journey to New Zealand in 1978. Upon its return to the UK in 2014, the Aston Martin Heritage Trust confirmed that the original engine remained intact. With just four registered owners throughout its life, this car has seen the world and carries stories from its travels.

Classic Features Galore: Compared to its predecessor, the DB4, the DB5 boasts enhancements like a larger engine capacity, synchromesh ZF five-speed gearbox, Girling disc brakes, electric windows, and twin hydraulic brake servos. Plus, it's even equipped with EZ electric power steering for a modern touch.

A Symphony of Upgrades: While this DB5 maintains its original charm, it does come with a modern twist—a Pioneer head unit with USB connectivity. It's the perfect harmony of classic and contemporary.

A Bond-Worthy Legacy: As I mentioned earlier, this DB5 shares a connection with the iconic James Bond franchise. It's the stuff of legends, an automotive superstar, and a conversation starter at every gathering. If you're lucky enough to be its next owner, you'll be driving a piece of cinematic history.

Exceptional Care: Rest assured, this beauty has been pampered over the years. Recent services by Aston Martin specialists, including Alan Smith Motors and RS Williams, prove its impeccable maintenance. From engine rebuilds to clutch assemblies, this DB5 has been treated like royalty.

And for those, like me, who have always aspired to be as effortlessly cool as Sean Connery, the original and, in my opinion, the best Bond, this DB5 provides a chance to step into the shoes of an icon. Channel your inner Connery as you take the wheel and embark on your own adventures, both shaken and stirred.
