Key Criteria For A Successful Auction House
The Daily Vroom
Hey Vroomers!
Today weâre gonna miss the chit-chat and dive straight into yesterdayâs auctions.
Catch you tomorrow,
Sam

MARKET LEADERBOARD
đ° The figures shared below donât count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc⌠All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.
I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.

Yesterdayâs sales, headlined by the $2M sale, pushed total values to $8.75Mâwell above our usual Tuesday. I thought itâd be interesting to break down the years of the cars sold. First up, hereâs a chart showing the most popular decade: the 2000s took the lead. Below that, weâve got the top 10 individual years, with 2008 and 1995 at the front of the pack.

YESTERDAYâS TOP 5 SALES
Yesterdayâs big sale was one for the books: the Mercedes 500K pulled in over $2 million, marking it as the fourth-highest online sale of the year. The comment section was on fire, nearly breaking the record, and those âlast two minutesâ stretched over an hourâI couldnât take my eyes off the screen. BaT has truly created an exhilarating media empire, and for that hour-plus, there was nowhere else Iâd rather be.
Switching gears, Iâve got to tip my hat to Collecting Cars and SOMO. Once again, theyâve shown they know how to move high-value cars, each landing a spot in our top five sales of the day.

Key Criteria For A Successful Auction House?

Big thanks to the Vroomer community member who sent in this image, labeled by SBX Cars as âKey Criteria for a Successful Auction House.â And before anyone thinks Iâm spilling secretsâthis was already floating around on social media. I have to say, though, Iâm not completely on board with their assessment (you might see things differently), and Iâll get into why below.
Now, as soon as I saw this, a thousand questions popped into my mind. But first, letâs assume the rating system here goes from 1 (not great) to 5 (the best). SBX is still finding its footing, and Iâve been âaccusedâ here before of giving them a bit too much grace. But hey, every new platform deserves some leeway to get established. That said, this chart might be a âtouchâ optimistic.
Take âReputation & Trust,â which SBX has rated themselves a solid 4. In my view, thatâs a stretch. Supercar Blondie, with her 100 million+ followers, is a true 5 in influence, but sheâs not front and center on the auction side. (she should be) This looks more like a âwhere we hope to beâ slide than a reality check.
And honestly, even âMarketing Reachâ raises questions. Sure, theyâve got an audience, but are they the right buyers for some of those jaw-dropping supercars? Their list did get me thinking, thoughâwhat other criteria should a truly successful auction platform be hitting? Letâs dive in.
User Experience & Interface â A smooth, intuitive, and user-friendly platform is essential. Buyers and sellers should have a seamless experience navigating, bidding, and managing their accounts. So many platforms still donât have this, which weâve discussed many times here.
Transparency in Bidding and Vehicle History â Providing thorough, verified details on each vehicle, including condition reports, ownership history, and any available service records, builds trust and attracts serious buyers.
Mobile Accessibility â Ensuring the platform works flawlessly on mobile devices can increase engagement, as many users prefer bidding on-the-go. Weâve seen this with a number of platforms launching their own apps.
Personalized Alerts & Notifications â Allow users to set up custom alerts for specific makes, models, or auction categories. This feature can keep buyers engaged and coming back.
Community Engagement â Having comments or questions and answers can foster a community atmosphere, allowing buyers and enthusiasts to discuss vehicles and auctions. But in reality itâs not easy.
Customer Service and Support During Auctions â Live chat or rapid-response customer service during auction hours can assist bidders with questions or technical issues, reducing the chances of missed bids or buyer dissatisfaction. This would work well for the smaller platforms.

(Blue) Auctions To Keep An Eye On
I would label this under a potential bargain bannerâŚ
This 2013 Volvo C30 Polestar Limited Edition is an absolute gem for anyone who loves a unique, performance-focused hatchback. Finished in striking Rebel Blue and packing a 250-hp turbo 5-cylinder with a 6-speed manual, it's #161 out of only 250 Polestar editions made for the U.S. With that kind of rarity, this car is super cool, and thereâs definite potential for a bargain here.
The seller has mentioned previous sales around $25K, but with over 100K miles, Iâm hoping heâs open to something closer to the $20K mark (all-in). If it lands there, that would be a great price for such a limited edition with all its mods and character. This might just be the perfect chance to snag a rare piece of Volvo history at a great price.

This Modified 1967 Porsche 912 Coupe 5-Speed is back on the market in record time. After hitting $25,912 on BaT on October 10th without meeting the reserve, itâs now up again, sitting at $10,912 as the auction closes today. Itâs got a mix of modifications that only someone with a strong (and maybe whacky) vision would put together. The sellerâs thrown in plenty of unique touches, making this one for folks who like their Porsches with a bit more personality than polish.
If youâre not hung up on originality, this 912 has character by the bucketload. The 2.0 build, extra undercoating, and that âeverything but the kitchen sinkâ vibe might just speak to someone looking for a driver with personality over perfection.
