Yesterday's Auction Cliffhangers: What Went Down? 🔥

🚗 PLUS: Very Rare Low Mileage 2021 Mercedes-AMG G63

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers,

Today is all about yesterday!! Or should I say today’s edition of The Daily Vroom heavily features what happened in yesterday’s auctions. 🔄

Let’s dive straight into it…

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc..

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means Hagerty, Hemmings and many others did not sell 5 cars yesterday!

It seems the unexpected has happened. After enjoying a vibrant and bustling two days of sales across various platforms, we observed a noticeable dip in activity yesterday ☹️.

Aside from the big four you see in the chart above, Hagerty wrapped up deals on two cars, accumulating a total of just $18k, whereas Hemmings had a slightly busier day with three cars sold (out of 11 listings), bringing in a combined $41k. In contrast, platforms like PCarMarket experienced a quiet day with not a single sale recorded!! Overall, the total sales across all platforms amounted to $5m, marking a deviation from what we typically expect to see.

On an average day, the market tends to see around 20 sales hitting the six-figure range. Yesterday, we saw this number cut in half. It's crucial to note that this wasn't due to a lack of listings; the cars were present, but the buyers were not.

In light of this, I've literally just decided to shift my focus on what I was going to write and take a closer look at some of those six-figure cars that were on the cusp of selling. By delving into these “almost” sales, we can begin to dissect and understand the factors that might have influenced the buyers' decisions.

Together, let's analyze these market patterns, learn from them, and strategize for future success. The aim is to unravel the intricacies of these fluctuations, ensuring we are better equipped to navigate the market's highs and lows.

TOP 10 SALES OF THE DAY

Looking at the top 10 sales yesterday, made me wonder how do the prices reflect on past sales. So I delved deeper and had a look at the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS past sales and non-sales.

The green line represents the cars that were sold, with points indicating the specific sales. The magenta points represent the cars that were not sold. This visual representation provides a clear overview of the sales trend and highlights the instances of sales and non-sales over time.

As you can see, the sales are somewhat spread out across the period, with a notable peak in July 2023. There are also a couple of instances where the cars did not sell, as indicated by the magenta points. From the data it seems that yesterday’s sale price of $235,000 was in fact a very good price, being the 2nd highest sale price in the last two years.

Moving forward, let's delve into the 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia, and this time around, I've enriched our analysis with some additional details regarding the locations of specific sales.

Before we dive deeper, it's crucial to address the evident trend that's unfolding before our eyes: a noticeable decrease in sales prices.

📉 Trend & Pricing: The 458 Italia, an absolute gem from Ferrari, has seen a varied range of sale prices. From a striking $225,000 for a low-mileage beauty in Sacramento to a more accessible $155,000 for a well-loved example in Loomis.

📅 Recent Sales: Yesterday, a 13,000-mile example found a new home for $175,000 on Bring a Trailer. Earlier in September, Cars & Bids saw a 16,000-mile specimen fetch $186,000.

Not All Found Homes: Not every 458 Italia crossed the auction finish line successfully. A pristine 12,700-mile example in Providence County received a high bid of $192,000 but didn't meet the reserve. Similarly, a 30,300-mile example in Jacksonville saw a high bid of $155,500 without sealing the deal.

The Nearly Six-Figure Sales

I've already covered the details of this 2006 Ferrari F430 Spider in yesterday's post, so I'll keep this brief.

So, what unfolded at the auction? The highest bid stalled at just $193,000. Despite Cars & Bids pulling out all the stops with extensive promotion, including a video review and a live YouTube session for the auction's finale, the bidding scene was unexpectedly quiet. With the car in excellent condition and showing just 400 miles on the odometer, it leaves us pondering - why didn't it sell? I'm all ears if you have any theories!

The 1963 Bentley S3 Continental Flying Spur by Mulliner Park Ward, a masterpiece of British automotive elegance, found itself under the spotlight yesterday on Bring a Trailer. With a Premium listing to its name, the car exuded classic charm, dressed in a gleaming silver coat and adorned with luxurious blue leather upholstery inside.

Despite its grandeur, the auction journey for this Bentley was a story of anticipation and unexpected turns. The car, residing in Ramsey, New Jersey, garnered significant attention, amassing over 13,658 views and 979 watchers, a testament to its allure and the potential bidding war it could ignite.

However, as the auction came to a close the highest bid stood at $150,000, a figure that, while substantial, fell short of the seller's expectations. I think the seller had eyes set on a number closer to the $200,000 mark, a target that would reflect the car’s prestigious lineage and impeccable condition.

The Bentley, with its 42k miles, 6.2-Liter V8 engine, and a host of luxurious features, promised a ride synonymous with opulence and performance. Yet, the auction outcome tells a story of market unpredictability and the delicate dance between expectation and reality in the world of classic car auctions.

Following our recent spotlight on the 2022 Ferrari SF90 Stradale, the auction has wrapped up, culminating in a final bid of $470,000. 📈 This magnificent machine, flaunting a mere 768 miles, stands as a shining example of Ferrari's unparalleled craftsmanship and cutting-edge technological prowess. 🏎️ However, it appears the market wasn’t fully prepared to meet the seller's high expectations, given that the car is now featured in a Buy Now listing, priced boldly at $590,000. 🤑

While there’s no denying the SF90 Stradale’s remarkable performance, luxurious appeal, and undeniable presence, this price point raises eyebrows. 😲 The question on everyone’s mind: does this automotive masterpiece truly justify a near $600k price tag?

What do you think. Is it worth the asking price of $590,000?

What a ride! 🚀 The Audi Quattro S1 E2 Rally Car Tribute has just wrapped up its auction, reaching a final bid of $120,000. However, it appears that the car didn't quite meet the reserve, resulting in a no-sale this time around.

Born as a European-spec Audi 80, this car has been masterfully transformed into a rally powerhouse, boasting a 6-speed sequential transmission and a turbocharged 5-cylinder engine. 🛠️ The attention to detail is evident, from the Garrett turbocharger to the anti-lag system and the drive-by-wire throttle, ensuring that this Audi is not just a tribute, but a thrilling driving experience.

The exterior, adorned in a white and black livery, is a nod to the 1985 Sanremo rally-winning S1 Quattro Audi Sport, and is complemented by a carbon-Kevlar E2-style body kit. Inside, the car features Sparco racing seats, VDO gauges, and a MOMO steering wheel, all contributing to its allure and appeal.

As the auction clock ticked down, we witnessed a bidding war, creating a flurry of excitement and anticipation. 💥 Bidders were eager to get their hands on this piece of rally history, driving the price up in the final moments. And to add a touch of drama, the auction concluded with a few tasty comments from the community & Cars & Bids, basically you want the car, you NEED to bid. (read from bottom up)
