Porsche 911 Dominates Weekend Sales (again)

PLUS: The big week ahead for SuperCar Blondie's Auction Site SBX...

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers,

This week could be the biggest sales week of the year! We have lots of auctions ending.

Cars & Bids for the first time in a long time have 30+ auctions ending daily, with around 50% of them being No Reserve listings! How will the reserve listings sell? We’ll have all the news here.

Last week, the 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 almost hit the $1 million mark, closing at $925,000. This week, a lot rides on whether the major sales, some of which we've highlighted below go through. As for the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport we spotlighted last week, there haven't been any new bids yet. If there are to be any, I expect they'll come in on auction day.

Tomorrow see’s the return of our daily Market Leaderboard…

Stay tuned!

Top Weekend Sales

Read my review on some of the sales below. If you’d like to view the auctions, just click on the cars.

2024 Porsche 911 Dakar $318,888

2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Weissach $217,000

1996 Porsche 911 (993) Turbo $183,250

2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Coupe 3LZ Z07 70th Anniversary Edition $166,000

2007 Ferrari F430 Spider $160,000

For the second weekend running, the Porsche 911 Dakar clinched the top sales spot! Impressively, it's the least expensive Dakar we've seen auctioned off so far, fetching ‘just’ $80k+ over the MSRP.

When it comes to showcasing an auction effectively, 1600veloce truly excels. He takes great care in preparing the thumbnails to ensure some look like a larger picture. It's these meticulous details that can give a sale that extra boost.

The sale of the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Weissach highlights a key feature that BaT is lacking. The second-highest bidder wanted to place a bid but missed out, resulting in both the bidder losing the car and the seller missing out on potential extra money. The feature I'm talking about is max bidding, where users can set the highest bid they're willing to offer. I'm a bit surprised that BaT hasn't experimented with this feature, at least with a segment of their audience.

Would you like this feature of max bidding in order to never miss an auction end?

Every day, across various auction sites, numerous comments catch my attention. Perhaps I should start featuring some of them here? One comment in particular stood out today. While I don't agree with the user, they certainly are entitled to their opinion—and it's a strong one at that!

Big Week For SBX Cars

I'm not here to pile on the pressure for a fledgling platform, but it's a crucial week for SBX Cars. They've got five auctions currently live, all set to close this week. Additionally, another auction is slated to go live on Wednesday, with several more listed as "coming soon."

While I don't mean to sound like it's now or never, ideally, at least two or three of these listings would successfully find new owners by the end of the week. It's a big moment for them to shine and really establish their footing in the market.

How many of the five cars listed do you think they will sell?

Your Feedback

Last week we asked you ‘If you bought a car today on BaT, would you use the verified checkout facility?’.

Surprisingly 51% of you said you wouldn’t. I would love to know why that is. But it’s clear BaT needs to push the messaging out there if they want buyers to use that facility.

Alumni Catchup

Below are the top 5 Alumni sales over the weekend. The arrows in the diagram below show whether the vehicle sale has gone down or up in value.

One Alumni auction I want to spotlight is the '67 Corvette that fetched $88,500. It was last auctioned in March when the highest bid stalled at $71k. So, what changed? First off, this auction underscores the importance of a well-executed, professional presentation by an engaged seller, which was lacking previously. Secondly, as I often mention, the value of vehicles are determined on the day, in the atmosphere of the auction. Sometimes, you'll have multiple bidders eager to compete for a car, and other times, not so much. It's impractical to gauge the market value based on a single sale.

In this particular case, there was a bit of a skirmish in the comment section, with one bidder vocally challenging the market price. Here's a glimpse into that dialogue.
