The Porsche 964 Auction Everyone’s Talking About!

PLUS: Why today's sales COULD be huge...

The Daily Vroom

Good morning, fellow Vroomers!

We’ve got some exciting updates! Two confirmed interviews are coming your way soon. One features a top power seller, and the other is with the President of a major auction platform. The first interview drops next week. In the meantime, let’s dive into yesterday’s highlights and what’s potentially in store for today.

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

The reserve sell-through rate is just for cars that are listed with a reserve. The full sell-through rate includes all auctions, reserve and no-reserve.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below.

Woah, our leaderboard is looking pretty bare bones today! Feels like someone came along and straight up robbed us of those usually packed rankings. I had to do a double take on the numbers - but it's just these three heavyweight hitters who managed to move 5 or more cars yesterday.

Total sales were way down too, only hitting $5.7 million. Seems we've got a bit of a mid-week slump situation on our hands, friends. The action's slowing down for a little breather before (hopefully) picking back up.

But there is a glimmer of good news on the horizon! Today's lineup of auctions could end up being absolutely epic if all those tasty cars manage to find new homes. Big "if" there, but hey, a guy can dream, right?

In my poll yesterday, the majority of you found the below chart useful, so it’s back! Two days ago the $10k-$20k were the majority of sales, yesterday it was the $20k-$40k. I wonder if we’ll see a day where $100k+ will be over 10%?

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

Oh man, we had some real head-turners cross the auction block yesterday! I'm talking legitimately gorgeous pieces of automotive art here. That stunning British beauty, the Aston Martin DB4? Chef's kiss levels of iconic, rare elegance right there. You know I'm an absolute sucker for those classic Aston shapes and lines.

But then we also had this jaw-dropping 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera RS that somehow managed to look good enough to eat in that Rubystone Red paint. Bet that color pops even more in real life! The new owner definitely has an eye for tasty Porsches - seems they're putting together one heck of a killer collection you can scope out right here.

Kudos to Collecting Cars who once again proved they are very adept to selling the higher priced vehicles with 2 of the top 3 sales coming from their platform.

1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II $318,400

1992 Porsche 911 Carrera RS $248,964

2023 Porsche 911 (992) Daka $224,000

2019 McLaren 720S Performance $211,000

1969 Porsche 911T Coupe by Dutchmann $153,000

Big Sale Day

Alright friends, we've got a potentially exciting day ahead, but I don't want to overhype it - we all know this online car sales game has its peaks and valleys. You just have to roll with the punches and not get too high or low on any given day.

That said, over at SBX Cars (Supercar Blondie's operation) have 6 absolutely gorgeous rides hitting the auction block today. They're still finding their footing in this world, but man, I really hope at least one of those beauties finds a new home. For them and for all of us drooling over the listings!

Two personal favorites that have caught my eye? The stunning 2021 Ferrari Monza SP2 with bidding sitting at $1 million as I type this.

And then there's the jaw-dropping 1991 Porsche 911 by Singer rocking a current high bid of $67,500. Absolute insanity on wheels, both of them.

Obviously there's still a long way to go before either hit their reserves, let alone all 6 listings. But a guy can dream of some serious last-minute bidding fireworks, right? Here's hoping a few of those SBX gems spark some epic back-and-forth battles as the clock winds down!

Now of course, SBX isn’t the only game in town for premium car sales. Check out these ones ending tomorrow.

When you have top sellers showing up to bid on a car that has been listed by another top seller, you know that you have something special. This paint-to-sample masterpiece was custom ordered with options that still check all of the boxes more than 30 years later. 964 turbos were rare enough, but one with low miles and painted in Ferrari Yellow is enough to get the usual seller suspects to show up as bidders themselves. With just a few hours left, you may want to check your available balances and clear some room in the garage.

We've got a serious piece of American muscle hitting the auction block today - the epic 2019 Corvette ZR1. This absolute beast represents the rowdy, front-engine V8 finale for the C7 generation 'Vettes before they went mid-engine with the C8s.

And let me tell you, as far as swansong special editions go, the ZR1 is one helluva way to go out with a supercharged bang! That 6.2L LT5 V8 is an absolute animal, making ungodly amounts of power sent exclusively to the rear wheels. Slap on the aero trickery, massive ceramic brakes, and sharply-raked looks, and you've got one badass sendoff for the front-engine layout.

This 2021 Ferrari 812 GTS is crazy!! With its unique 'Tailor Made' spec, the Bronzo Masaru paint and bespoke interior are truly one-of-a-kind. The naturally aspirated V12 engine provides that iconic Ferrari roar and blistering performance. Just under 4,000 km means it’s barely been driven.

What really makes this car special is how it combines Ferrari's raw power with luxury and exclusivity. The attention to detail in the Tailor Made program is incredible. If you're serious about Ferraris, this 812 GTS is a must-have. It's rare, it's beautiful, and it's everything a Ferrari should be. (I’m saving up!)

Porsche purists, feast your eyes on this absolute weapon hitting the auctions today - a 2019 991.2 GT3 RS with the coveted Weissach Package! This lizard green over black/green alcantara beauty is about as close to a road-legal racecar as you can get from Stuttgart.

With only 550 miles on the clock, this GT3 RS is practically fresh out of the wrapper. And just look at that outrageous aero, those cult-classic center-locks, and that 9,000rpm 4.0L screamer of a flat-six! It's been optioned out with all the go-fast Porsche goodies too - PCC brakes, the Chrono pack, magnesium wheels, you name it.

This 2008 Dodge Viper ACR is a real beast, and I can't help but get a little excited about it. With just under 16,000 miles, it’s practically new and ready to unleash its raw power. The Viper Red paint screams performance, and the ACR package means this car isn't just about looks – it’s built to dominate the track with its aggressive aero kit and enhanced chassis. Doug DeMuro's review confirms what we already know: this Viper is a thrill machine.

I was gonna end it here, but I thought that I should probably also feature some more affordable but great cars!

This slightly modified Mustang is an unusual post for TDV, but the listing stood out as a clean and low mileage example of what was the perfect spec of sleeper in the period of its manufacture.

The GT body had extra weight and called lots of attention to itself. The convertibles flexed and leaked. The LX, 5.0, notchback body (especially when painted in a dark color) was just under the radar enough to blend in with traffic. In the early 90s this was the car to own, and this one avoided being used up and modified beyond recognition. Not many of these left in this condition.

This pre-merger AMG wagon seems to have been built in Germany and then shipped to Japan, and not just converted by AMG Japan. I would love to understand more of the history here, but it seems that this car was eventually imported from Japan to the US. A cool and unique spec, this seems to be clean and well sorted.

I am just a sucker for the Audi Allroad in this color combination. I have written about them here before. This one, offered up by a top seller, was clearly a car that he loved and cherished. Offered up at no reserve, he has let the audience decide what it is worth, and the bids keep coming.

You know how much we love tracking Alumni Listing -well we just saw this beautiful Bentley sell back in February for $66,500.

The seller says that it is great, but that a greater Mulsanne came up that they purchased instead. This one looks to be a bargain at a fraction of the MSRP with 22K miles on it.
