MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means Hagerty and many others did not sell 5 vehicles yesterday!

Feels like an eternity since we saw a leaderboard jam-packed with names beyond the usual big four. The elephant in the room for most platforms, and let's just lay it out there, is nailing down a steady flow of listings from Monday to Friday. It's kinda wild watching these heavyweight companies fumble with what seems basic. I've questioned out loud, more times than I can count, whether these big shots are genuinely putting their shoulder to the wheel, or did they jump in thinking it'd be a cakewalk? Spoiler: It's anything but easy!

Every platform's got its secret sauce, right? It might be the community vibe, a big-name influencer, the laser focus on a particular niche, or some killer features. But when you boil it down, the real game-changer is setting clear, ambitious goals and then, you know, actually going after them. It's not about sitting back and thinking, "We're 'X' company; the biz will just roll on in." Nope, that's a fantasy for most. You need that dynamite team, one that really gets the ins and outs of the digital marketplace.

Biden’s Cadillac Sells Big

What a way to celebrate President's Day week! A 2018 Cadillac ATS-V Sedan that President Joe Biden once leased hit the auction block and boy, did it stir up a storm. Timing couldn't have been more perfect, and the buzz was unreal, with the auction pulling in over 100,000 eyeballs. And to think, I nearly missed the whole shebang, only catching wind of it as it was about to wrap up. The final bid? A whopping $77,776, eclipsing the MSRP and then some. Sure, the car's presidential past turned heads, but let's dive into what makes this Cadillac so darn special.

This isn't just any old Caddy we're talking about. It's a one-of-a-kind masterpiece with around 15,900 miles under its belt, draped in a sleek Black Raven coat paired with an exquisite Kona Brown interior—a personal request from Biden himself. This car isn't just about having a famous previous owner; it's a testament to luxury and performance melded into one.

Under the hood lies a beastly 3.6L turbocharged V6 engine, pushing out 464 horsepower, all channeled through an 8-speed automatic transmission to its rear wheels. It's Cadillac's answer to the likes of BMW's M3 and M4, but with a unique American twist.

And it's not just the engine that makes this ATS-V a catch. It's decked out with everything from the Luxury Package to Magnetic Ride Control, not to mention the custom touches like 18-inch CT4-V Blackwing wheels in Tech Bronze, and a sporty Rennick Performance exterior trim. It’s clear this car was babied, sporting less than 16,000 miles and boasting a maintenance record cleaner than a whistle.

But wait, there's more: the sale included more than just the car. The winning bidder also got their hands on a piece of history, with documentation, a window sticker signed by President Biden, and even some email banter with Cadillac execs.

In a nutshell, this auction was more than a transaction; it was a spectacle, a celebration of presidential history, and a testament to American luxury and performance. And for those of us who almost missed out—what a finish it was!

Your Feedback

Thank you all for the feedback from our interview yesterday with Jonathan Shaw, President of Hemmings, it certainly stirred up some strong opinions.

The first question we asked you ‘Do you believe Hemmings has the potential to challenge the top platforms in the collector car industry with their strategic direction and initiatives?’

45% of you believe their unique approach is a game changer

32% of you believe they lack the necessary focus & edge

23% of you are unsure, it depends on how they execute their plan.

Here’s a selection of your comments:

Multi faceted support features will enhance their position in the long term.

Hemmings has is sitting on their on their digital hands as it were. Their insistence, continuing to fill pages with annoying/disruptive/useless ads instead of what the magazine is supposed to do. BUY/SELL CARS. With all due respect to Jonathan Shaw. The interview was typical. Stick to the script. As a long time subscriber to Hemming's Classic Cars, and the use of their digital platform, with the annoying ads. I will be not be renewing. Best of luck Hemmings Jonathan Shaw and Co. Ciao

I’m willing to sit and wait and see how they do. Mr. Shaw seemed to say the right things as I’m now waiting to see how they execute on their plans.

In the second question, we asked ‘What's your opinion on Hemmings' new Pay & Title service, described as groundbreaking by their CEO?’

40% of you said it’s a major innovation that will transform transactions.

40% of you said it seems like a gimmick that will make no real difference.

20% of you said it’s a good addition, but not enough to stand out.

Here’s a selection of your comments:

Overcomes a big hurdle

I may be oversimplifying it, but from where i see, they have just added a third party, key savvy who act as a dealer even though they never actually have the car in their own hands and then charge double what you can do with key savvy by yourself. Also very unclear of who is the responsible party if an issue with the car arises, is it key savvy, Hemmings or no-one?

Doesn’t solve any problems I have with buying cars - so gimmicky
