BMW SALES LAST WEEK

Last week there were 57 BMW's sold in online auctions with a total sales price of $2,044,115. If you extrapolate these numbers for a yearly basis then you get (just getting the calculator out here) a reasonably large number of $$ sales over the year of $106,293.98. Now of course we can't really extrapolate over one week's numbers, but hey-ho it's fun to do so! We'll be keeping an eye on this one and report back.

Interestingly enough there were ONLY 4 websites that had some BMW sales and it's all the obvious players. BaT, Collecting Cars, Cars & Bids & The Market. Switch that, I just noticed that PCarmarket sold one BMW last week, but that doesn't count!!

Looking at the chart below which make and model stands out to you? Not all are included but you can see that there is no one specific model that stands out from the rest.

The most expensive BMW was the 2003 BMW Alpina Roadster V8 below that sold for $245,000 nearly $100,000 more than the next highest sale of a 1974 BMW 3.0CSI 4-Speed that sold for $148,000.

If you're in the market for a classic sports car that's both collectible and highly desirable, then this 1965 Porsche 356C Coupé 1600 might be just the ride for you! This particular model is the final iteration of the 356, which happens to be the progenitor of the legendary 911. With smooth styling, neat details, and a charismatic 1.6-litre boxer engine, this Porsche is definitely worth considering.

This 356C has been customised in a 'road rally' style, with motorsport-inspired decals and a number of styling touches. 1965 PORSCHE 356C 1600

Inside, you'll find red leather upholstery with leather luggage straps to the rear bench, period gauges, and a thin-rimmed wheel. The red carpets are hard-wearing and edge-bound, and the headlining is a cream-coloured, perforated vinyl. Everything looks to be in excellent overall condition, with just the right amount of patination to the driving controls.

Under the hood, you'll find a 1,582cc four-cylinder boxer engine, paired with a four-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. According to the owner, the car starts and runs very well, with no leaks evident and no smoke on start-up or under load. The gearbox shifts well, and there are no knocks or unusual noises from the suspension.

Overall, this Porsche is a super little classic that would happily take pride of place in any garage. With a good history file and a current Revisione ( Vehicle Inspection/ Italian MOT equivalent) to March 2023, this Porsche is ready for its next adventure!

This Porsche is being auctioned by Car&Classic and can be found here.

Restored 1961 Renault Jolly Resort Car

Here's one rare car I've never seen before, have you? Do you know what it is? (no peeking below)

Renault got into the beach car business with the Ghia-designed Jolly built from the 4CV. Only around a dozen are said to remain and as such, they are quite rare and valuable today.

This 1961 Renault Jolly was reportedly ordered by a Florida resort when new and is said to have been in the same family for the last 54 years, having been found on a Texas roadside in 1969.

The Jolly is powered by a 747-cc OHV inline-four engine that produces 21 horsepower and 41 lb-ft of torque, and it is equipped with a three-speed manual transmission.

This particular Jolly has undergone "a nut-and-bolt restoration," completed in 2018, and is said to be in "perfect condition." The blue and white paint, chrome, and surrey fringed-fabric top appear to be in very good condition.

The interior features new brown wicker seats and tan carpet, while the dash and door sills are painted the same shade of blue as the exterior. The two-spoke steering wheel is finished in white to match the contrast color and gauge nacelle, where a single Jaeger gauge cluster combines a speedometer, odometer, coolant temperature gauge, and fuel gauge, plus oil and charge warning lights.

The Firestone 135/R15 F-560 tires and wheels were reportedly new when the Jolly was restored in 2018. The suspension, including bushings and shocks, as well as the brakes, were also restored at that time.

With only a reported dozen examples left in existence, this rare 1961 Renault Jolly would likely be the star attraction of almost any car show.

The online auction can be found on Hemmings, here are all the details.

CELEB CARS?

Nicolas Cage in his 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder

1959 FERRARI 250 GT LWB CALIFORNIA SPYDER

1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder facts:

The 250 California Spyder is considered one of the most iconic Ferrari vehicles ever made, sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike. It was designed for drivers who wanted a high-performance sports car that could also be driven on the streets.

The long-wheelbase version of the 250 California Spyder is especially rare, with only 51 ever produced. Nicolas Cage was fortunate enough to own one of them, specifically number 34.

This particular car has a fascinating history. It was originally sold to a French film director named Roger Vadim, who used it to transport his wife, Jane Fonda, around Europe. The car was then owned by several other notable figures before Cage purchased it in 1997.

The car's appearance in the 1986 film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" helped to cement its place in pop culture history. However, the car used in the film was not Cage's actual vehicle, but rather a replica made for the production. Little known fact the car in the film was NOT a Ferrari, see below.

In 2001, Cage decided to sell his 250 California Spyder at auction. It was eventually purchased by an anonymous buyer for a record-breaking $10.9 million, making it one of the most expensive cars ever sold at auction.

How do I know it wasn't a Ferrari I hear you ask? Well I've seen it in person 😀 and it's in a private collection that I've seen recently!! Here's a pic I took after the owner agreed to let me take that awful plastic off.

Fun fact - Matthew Broderick who drove the car, didn't know how to drive shift, so the car is actually automatic but looks like stick.

Buckle up, car enthusiasts - that's all for today's edition of The Daily Vroom. Until next time, happy bidding! If you want more, be sure to follow our Tiktok (@TheDailyVroom)
