AND THE WINNER IS…

A few days back I ran a poll on which company is the likeliest take on Bring A Trailer.

We received a ton of entries and feedback from many. I’m NOT surprised at the results & I’ll tell you why below.

In some of the feedback there was some talk of the physical auction houses like Mecum & Barrett Jackson. But these guys are really a different fish. They will never compete on a day-day level. They are just trying to compete with each other to sell the most expensive cars. They run experience events, where they ply you with alcohol, have fun and then before you know it you’ve bid too much on a car 😀

In the world of online auctions, Cars & Bids stands head and shoulders above the rest. Their website is a masterclass in user-centric design, pairing aesthetically pleasing visuals with unparalleled responsiveness.

With an elegant, uncluttered layout, the site allows users to effortlessly navigate through various pages and listings. Every feature, every line, every pixel is thoughtfully designed to provide an immersive and intuitive browsing experience. The colorful timer is simple but so effective.

The effortless scrollability keeps your eyes engaged, while the smart arrangement of information makes the exploration of the site an absolute breeze.

In the world of digital user experience Cars & Bids not only ticks all the boxes, but it truly sets the benchmark for what an car auction website should be.

Couple that with ‘Doug’s Take’ and the shipping widget it all adds up to be a real winner for me. (In another post I’ll give you my detailed analysis of all the sites, with Hemmings being the worst!!). You can see all the relevant information on a listing- real nice!

You can see all the relevant information on a listing below - nice!

Given the exceptional quality of their website, coupled with the enduring partnership with Doug, selling consistently 20+ cars a day and a new management team who I hear great things about, I can see why Cars & Bids are your favorite to compete with BaT.

I look forward to seeing what they do next. I’m also hearing on the grapevine that changes are afoot with Collecting Cars. Exciting times ahead for all of us.

CELEB LISTING OF THE DAY

🚗 Ex-Barbra Streisand 1957 Ford Thunderbird: A Classic Beauty with Celebrity Provenance 🌟

Rolling out the Past: 🕰️ Leaving the Ford’s River Rouge factory in July 1957, this stunning Ford Thunderbird once belonged to the iconic singer Barbra Streisand. Later, it made its way through Arizona before finally finding a home in Delaware.

Restoration: 🔧 In Delaware, it underwent a meticulous refurbishment that revitalized its once classic charm. From re-trimming the interior with vivid red vinyl, overhauling the air conditioning system, to breathing new life into the 312ci V8 engine and Fordomatic three-speed automatic transmission, no detail was left untouched.

Exterior Details: 🎨 Dressed in Colonial White, it wears a body-color removable hardtop adorned with porthole windows, complemented by a white vinyl soft top. Exterior highlights include a hood scoop, faux fender louvers, rear fender skirts, stylish tail fins, and dazzling chrome front and rear bumpers.

Riding on Air: 🌬️ The car stands proud on 14″ steel wheels wearing turbine covers and fitted with 205/75 Hankook Optima H724 tires. Equipped with power steering and power-assisted drum brakes, it's as smooth and comfortable as they come.

Inside the Cabin: 🚪 The cabin, re-trimmed in red vinyl, showcases engine-turned trim across the dash and doors. The air conditioning system was replaced in 2018 for added comfort, while an AM radio, a floor-mounted shifter, and lap belts offer nostalgic charm.

Performance Stats: ⚡ Under the hood, the D-code 312ci Y-block V8, boasting a four-barrel carburetor, is factory-rated at a commendable 245 horsepower. The engine was rebuilt in 2014, with the addition of an aluminum radiator and electric puller fan.

Authenticity: 🔍 The car’s serial number confirms it as a 1957 Ford Thunderbird, powered by a D-code 312ci V8 with a four-barrel carburetor. Its authenticity is further proven by a 1972 California Ownership Certificate listing Barbra Streisand as the owner, which accompanies the car along with the blue California license plates.

Wrap-up: 🎁 Offered with owner’s handbooks, partial service records, a hardtop stand, and a clean Delaware title, this Thunderbird brings the charm of 1957 alive again! A perfect piece for the “Antique” use classification as per the current Delaware title.

The question is - will having Barbara Streisand help or hinder the sale - time will tell.
