The Daily Vroom

Hey Vroomers,

I want to express my gratitude to everyone who's reached out recently. Your feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and it's great to connect with so many of you who are curious about the next phase of The Daily Vroom. Remember, my inbox is always open, and it's been a pleasure meeting some fantastic people through this platform.

On another note, I'm eagerly awaiting the first Cybertruck listing. Rumor has it there's a hefty $100k fine for selling it within the first year Yet, I can't help but think there are folks willing to pay a significant premium to get their hands on one early. It's a gamble, but it might just be worth it. Could it bring good or bad publicity for the site that dares to list it? And isn't it said that all publicity is good publicity?

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc..

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means Hagerty, Hemmings and many others did not sell 5 cars yesterday!

Yesterday, sales soared even higher, reaching a remarkable $6.2 million. It was quite a day for Porsche, as they dominated the top 10, accounting for 50% of the sales. But here's something even more impressive: out of the 130+ cars sold yesterday, Porsche represented 12% of all sales. That's a significant share for a single brand, especially considering we had 37 different makes on the sales floor.

BaT Premium Listings

A while ago, I made a commitment to revisit Bring a Trailer's Premium sales data once I had more information to share. Today, I'm fulfilling that promise. I've thoroughly analyzed all of their November sales, and I'm ready to present you with the insightful statistics derived from that analysis.

The straightforward statistics from November show that out of the 54 Premium listings, 63% successfully sold.

Above are the top 10 sold premium listings. Below are the top 10 by highest bids non-sold premium listings.

Here's the ‘thing’: I could bombard you with a plethora of charts detailing average sale prices, vehicle price ranges, and more, but would that truly enhance your understanding? I believe not. The raw data paints a clear enough picture.

However, to truly grasp the dynamics at play, we must delve into individual listings. Why did certain vehicles fail to attract buyers? This is a question we often explore in our 'Nearly Sales Of The Day' segment. In fact two of those in the top 10 that didn’t sell I wrote about last week here.

One burning question remains: Do premium listings genuinely offer added value? The answer is complex. Ideally, we'd run controlled experiments, posting identical listings as both premium and regular, and comparing outcomes under identical conditions (same day, time, etc.). But even this method has its limitations due to various external factors.

Another approach is to compare premium listings' sell-through rate with that of regular listings. Here, we find that premium listings have a lower sell-through rate. But is this a fair comparison? Premium listings often feature special, higher-priced vehicles with a more limited buyer pool, often coupled with higher reserves (notably, six out of the 54 listings in November were 'No Reserve').

Therefore, a more effective method may be to evaluate these listings over an extended period, tracking whether their performance improves or declines, as we do with regular listings. This long-term analysis could provide us with the most accurate picture of the true value of premium listings on Bring a Trailer.

Of course, I wouldn't stop at just November's data. You know me better than that! I also took a deep dive into October's Premium sales on Bring a Trailer. Interestingly, the sell-through rate in October was 62%, almost mirroring November's 63%.

Rest assured, I'll keep you updated on how this trend progresses.

Deal Of The Day

In today's "Deal of the Day," we delve into the extraordinary story of a vehicle that's not just a car, but a fortress on wheels. The Armored 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500GE, which sold for $38,000, is a tale of engineering marvel and intriguing history. Imported from Georgia, this vehicle is more than its robust 5.0-liter V8 engine and luxurious gray leather interior.

What sets this 500GE apart is its comprehensive armoring. Imagine the tales it could tell with its inward-facing seats and “gun lockers,” hinting at a life of adventure and perhaps intrigue. The armor extends to a bulletproof shield protecting the gas tank, while the sunroof is sealed off with a bulletproof insert across the entire roof. This addition not only enhances security but also tells a story of a car designed for extreme situations.

The weight of the ballistic-resistant glass is so significant that it renders the windows inoperable. With the A/C compressor removed, one can only imagine the intensity inside the cabin, especially in my city of LA. It’s a car that demands sacrifice for security, a veritable sauna on wheels.

Yet, in a city like Los Angeles, where the extraordinary is often the norm, an armored car could be surprisingly practical. This Mercedes-Benz 500GE isn't just a vehicle; it's a testament to the lengths we go for safety and a symbol of the extraordinary measures some will take.

Flip Of The Day

In today's "Flip of the Day," let's talk about a real stunner in the automotive world – the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak Last Call. Now, isn't that a mouthful? But it's not just the name that's impressive. This beast, wrapped in what I consider the best MOPAR color - Sublime Green - was bought for $96k and flipped for a cool $105k.

This American muscle car is more than just a vehicle; it's a statement. With only 49 miles on the odometer, it's practically brand new. Under the hood, a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 roars with 807 horsepower, thanks to the Jailbreak package. The interior boasts black Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery, accented with carbon-fiber trim and Demonic Red seat belts – talk about riding in style!

The flipper of this car not only made a smart investment but also got to experience the thrill of owning one of the most powerful production cars out there!

Your Feedback

In yesterday’s edition, I posed a question about the impact of a Doug DeMuro video review on sales success. The response was clear: 83% of you believe that such a review enhances the likelihood of a sale, and more than half – 51% – would even consider paying for Doug to create that video. This topic sparked a flood of comments, some of which I've shared below.

Paying for it really muddies the water to what is his real opinion and casts a light that could imply a favorable review can be purchased. In the interest of transparency and to keep Doug's reputation as pristine as it is, I would not want to see reviews for purchase.

I think this helps with certain cars of "modest" value.. but not really high end ones.. as they will sell in the right auction.

But has there ever been a negative Doug review? I know it would help if it is positive, and a negative review would kill. So how about some kind of independent review?
