PLUS: Results of which platform you think will have the most growth đź‘€

The Daily Vroom

Good morning, Vroomers!

This week, we've shaken things up a bit by putting our usual market leaderboard on a brief pause (it'll be back next week, promise!). Today, we’re diving deeper into some of the cars we've spotlighted by exploring their bidding and sales history. I hope you find this added context interesting. As always, your feedback is invaluable—let us know if this is something you'd enjoy seeing more of!

Your Feedback

Yesterday, we posed a question: "Aside from BaT, which platform do you think will show the most growth over the next 12 months?"

Here's where the votes stood at the time of writing:

  • 24% of you are betting on Cars & Bids.

  • 20% think Collecting Cars will take the lead.

  • 14% are backing SOMO.

Following closely were Hagerty and Car & Classic, tied in the rankings, with Hemmings and then PCarMarket not far behind.

Rounding out the votes were Clasiq and Autohunter.

It’s going to be fascinating to see how your predictions unfold over the coming year..

Yesterday’s Top Sale

1971 Ferrari Dino 246 GT $362,000

Sale of the Day

Yesterday’s sale of the 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec for $188,500 may at first glance suggest a slight dip in value compared to a similar model that fetched $210,000 back in June 2023. However, a closer look reveals key differences that explain the variation in sale prices and audience engagement.

The Skyline sold in June boasted an expansive reach of 160k views and a whopping 254 comments, significantly outpacing yesterday's sale which attracted 35k views and 111 comments. This stark contrast in engagement can be largely attributed to the fact that the June sale was reviewed by Doug DeMuro, whose influence and detailed reviews tend to draw larger audiences and elevate the perceived value and desirability of the cars he features.

Moreover, the June Skyline was mostly unmodified, preserving much of its original specs, which can be more appealing to purists and collectors seeking authenticity. In contrast, the Skyline sold yesterday featured several modifications which, while potentially enhancing performance, might not appeal to the same collector demographic that values original factory specs.

These factors combined—the presence of a high-profile review, the degree of modifications, and the intrinsic appeal of less altered vehicles—help clarify why we see such differences in final sale figures and engagement metrics. It illustrates that even subtle distinctions between listings can significantly influence buyer perception and market value, underscoring the nuanced nature of car collecting where provenance, originality, and expert endorsements can play pivotal roles in valuation.

High-End Auctions

Lately, we've been diving into the more accessible segments of the market, showcasing some fantastic finds among the lower and mid-range vehicles up for grabs. But as any enthusiast knows, every day brings a chance to marvel at some of the higher-end marvels that grace the auction blocks. Today, I'm thrilled to shift gears and spotlight three extraordinary cars that each bring something unique to the table. These aren't just cars; they're chapters in automotive history, each telling a story of innovation, luxury, and pure driving pleasure. Let’s take a closer look at these standout vehicles.

Take a look at this 2005 Porsche Carrera GT listed on PCarMarket, sitting pretty with a high bid of $500,000 and counting. Sporting a slick Seal Grey Metallic finish, this isn't just any Porsche—it’s a rare beast with only 64 like it in North America. With a scant 13,000 miles on the odometer, this car isn’t just low-mileage; it’s a near-sacred piece of automotive craftsmanship.

Let’s talk about what makes this Carrera GT a standout. Beyond its stunning looks, it's a living legacy of Porsche’s racing prowess, powered by a roaring V10 engine that was originally destined for Le Mans. The driving experience? Nothing short of exhilarating, with a manual transmission that demands your engagement and rewards you with every shift.

This Carrera GT is more than just a car; it’s a trophy for the true aficionado, a blend of high-performance engineering and striking aesthetics. Parked in Ohio, this Porsche is waiting to make someone’s garage very, very special.

Bidding/Sales History

The last two on the auction block, one was sold for $1.2m and the other one did not sell for a high bid of $1.1m, both in March. So this one has some way to go if it’s gonna sell.

What do you get when you bring BaT, Wob, and RUF together? You get a chance to own an automotive unicorn—this 1994 RUF RCT. This isn't just any custom ride; it's the only one of its kind, forged from a Porsche 964 chassis and refined into a legend on both road and track.

Decked in Polar Silver Metallic and sporting a meticulously crafted black leather and tartan interior, this RCT isn't just built for speed; it's designed to make a statement. From its distinctive whale-tail spoiler to the 18" RUF/Speedline wheels, every detail screams performance art.

Born as a development and press vehicle, this RUF RCT has a history steeped in adrenaline and innovation. With a turbocharged and intercooled 3.6-liter flat-six that roars with power, driving it is like holding lightning in your hands.

Now parked in California and with bids flying at $570,911, this car is a testament to RUF's engineering prowess and a beacon for collectors. This RUF RCT isn't just a favorite of ours at The Daily Vroom—it's a standout piece that captures the essence of what makes a car truly remarkable. For us, it's a star of the show, blending fierce performance with an iconic design. This is more than a car; it's a legacy on wheels. Miss out on this, and you're missing out on a piece of high-octane history. Ready to step into the legend?

Bidding/Sales History

As a unicorn there is no comparable history. However this car did feature at Amelia this past year and was bid up to $1.1m with no sale. So the high bid is going to have be over double the current bid. But with 6 days to go, we have plenty of time.

When Singer Vehicle Design lays their magic on a 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 2, the result is nothing short of spectacular. Currently catching eyes and opening wallets on BaT with a current high bid of $525,000, this "San Diego Commission" is a standout—a real Singer spectacle.

Why all the fuss? Imagine getting behind the wheel of this reimagined classic. It’s not just about owning a Porsche; it’s about owning a Singer Porsche. The vibrant blue finish with red accents isn’t just paint—it’s a statement. And the engine, oh the engine! A Cosworth-developed 3.8-liter that’s all gusto and growl, ready to tear up the tarmac.

Landing a Singer-modified Porsche is like snagging a piece of automotive haute couture. It’s rare, it’s coveted, and it represents a pinnacle of car customization. This isn’t just driving; it’s driving a dream—a dream that’s been meticulously stitched together by some of the best in the business.

Bidding/Sales History

This exact vehicles was listed for sale in September 2023 and did not sell with a high bid of $964,911. For some reason, BaT are NOT listing this as an Alumni listing - must be a mistake on their part.

If you could take home one of these high-end marvels, which would it be? Vote for your dream ride!
