👀 Are Singer's Porsche Restorations a Good Investment?

PLUS: A Very Rare 400 Mile 2006 Ferrari Up For Auction...

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers,

Thank you to everyone who responded to my poll yesterday about planning a meet-up; your input is invaluable. The consensus seems to be in favor of New York, and I'm aiming to be there during the week of November 13th. I’ll provide more details as soon as I have everything figured out.

In the meantime, I'd love to meet up for a drink and chat about cars. If you’re interested, please respond to this email, and I’ll make sure to organize our get-together at a time that works well for everyone. I'm planning for it to be a laid-back and casual event.

And a little heads up – there’s a chance I might be able to bring some TDV merchandise for those who come out to join us! Really looking forward to the possibility of meeting many of you in person!

Also yesterday I mentioned that Porsche had their own auction website, which many of you didn’t know about. The site is Marqued.com

When/if you visit the site, I know what you’re gonna say- it is what it is! Porsche messed up here big time!

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc..

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means Hagerty and many others did not sell 5 cars yesterday!

What in the auto-world is happening? Two consecutive days and the online car auction scene is buzzing with some serious action from various platforms.

Breaking tradition, Cars & Bids isn't sitting pretty in the second spot this time. Instead, Car & Classic has stepped up to the plate, selling a whopping 29 vehicles with a commendable sell-through rate of 64%. Hats off to them! But, don’t get too comfortable with those numbers; I'm betting my bottom dollar we won’t see a repeat performance from Car & Classic this week as their listings take a nosedive.

Still, you've got to give credit where it’s due: 175 vehicles listed this week (Mon-Fri) is nothing to sneeze at. Meanwhile, Collecting Cars isn’t far behind with 190 listings (Mon-Fir). They just need a little nudge to boost their sell-through game.

And while they may have sold fewer cars than Car & Classic, the price tags on those vehicles? higher than Car & Classic selling less than 50% vehicles!! Makes you wonder how their revenue stacks up. But that's a topic for another time. 😀

BaT Premium Listings

In yesterday’s update, I pointed out that BaT's premium auctions had a selling rate of just one out of four listings for the previous day. While it’s tempting to analyze these results on a day-to-day basis, it’s crucial to remember that such a small sample size doesn’t provide a statistically significant foundation to draw reliable conclusions. Just to illustrate this point, both of BaT's premium auctions ended without a sale yesterday. However, it’s important to emphasize that with such limited data, numerous factors could be at play here.

So, instead of continuing with daily updates, which may not offer the robust insights we’re looking for, I’ve decided to take a step back and compile a much larger dataset. By doing so, I aim to conduct a comprehensive analysis that can reveal any meaningful trends or insights worth sharing. Stay tuned for a deep dive into the world of premium auctions with a more substantial and reliable set of data!

TOP 10 SALES OF THE DAY

I thought I’d do things a little different today as the the top 10 sold cars yesterday came from a variety of different platforms.

Let's cut to the chase. The chart above? That’s where the action was in the online auction space yesterday. Take a gander at the top 10 cars that found themselves new driveways to call home.

The 2014 Lamborghini Aventador didn’t just top the chart; it obliterated it with a closing bid of $291,300. Meanwhile, the 2017 Rolls-Royce Wraith proved that elegance still has a seat at the table, even if it’s at the kiddie section.

Porsche was strutting its stuff with three models making the cut. Not too shabby. And hats off to the folks at PCarMarket and Collecting Cars. Clearly, they were doing something right yesterday.

So there you have it. Ten cars, a few hundred grand each, and a whole lot of horsepower. Just another day in paradise for us gearheads.

Singer Vehicle Design

Singer Vehicle Design is renowned for their exquisite modifications of Porsche vehicles, transforming them into bespoke masterpieces that blend classic aesthetics with modern performance. Their work is highly respected in the automotive community for its attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, and the unique blend of nostalgic design with cutting-edge technology.

I decided to delve into this fascinating world of modified Porsches after observing that a 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe by Singer didn’t manage to find a buyer, despite a lofty bid of $955k. It's hard to question the sheer beauty and craftsmanship of Singer’s work, leading me to believe that perhaps the car just didn't reach the right audience.

However, it also raises questions about the current market dynamics. Are potential buyers leaning more towards performance-oriented options like a GT3? Or does it have something to do with the build quality that other manufacturers are offering? Furthermore, could the mileage on the Singer Porsche be a deterrent given its asking price? While these questions linger, I have a hunch that this car will find a new home elsewhere, and quite deservedly so. One further point on this particular listing which is a pet hate, the seller didn’t get involved in the comments section. For any sale, especially one that is 7 figures, the seller has to be all over the listing like a nasty rash!!

The chart above illustrates the varying sale prices and success of Singer modified Porsches over the last two years. It’s evident that these cars command a premium, reflecting their bespoke nature and the craftsmanship that goes into each build. The cars that found buyers were sold in a price range from around $350k to $1.3 million, showcasing the diversity in offerings and the willingness of buyers to invest in these rolling pieces of art.

In conclusion, while not every Singer Porsche finds a buyer immediately, the trend indicates a strong market presence and sustained interest in these unique vehicles. The journey of each car is a story in itself, and the allure of Singer’s work continues to captivate automotive enthusiasts around the globe.

Catch Up

Earlier this week, I delved into the topic of several 2023 vehicles that were put up for sale—ostensibly for all the right reasons, with profit-making surely being the last thing on the sellers' minds, wink wink 😉. Now, as we take a look back, let’s see how those listings fared and find out the outcomes for the ones that have concluded.

First up is this 2023 Porsche 911 (992) Turbo S which ended with lots of bids, but no sale .

Next up on the auction block was this beautiful 2023 Porsche 992 GT3 Touring. Bidding ended at $260,000 and was sold .

Here we have the 2023 BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupe The 8 x Jeff Koons.

The highest bid on this one was a surprising $215,000. It did not sell .

Tracing the journey of this particular vehicle, we find that it made its appearance on BaT back in February but didn't manage to secure a buyer, despite the bidding reaching $250,000. Interestingly, it appears to have changed hands elsewhere, accumulating an additional 4 miles on the odometer in the process. Fast forward to its recent reappearance on BaT, and the outcome was somewhat perplexing—the highest bid fell short by $35,000 compared to its previous stint in February! Is the market falling/steadying out?
