MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.

What a day we had yesterday, racking up $8.5m in vehicle sales! Let's dive into the details and see which makes and models took the spotlight.

No shocker here—Porsche led the pack, as usual. But who would've guessed? We had a surprising number of Minis flying off the lot! Quite the eclectic mix on the sales floor yesterday!

I've got even more juicy data for you. Check this out - I've put together some pie charts that shows the top 5 models for each of the top 5 makes, along with the average price of sale.

This is where things get really interesting, if you ask me.

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

Looking at the top auctions below it was a GT2/3 RS takeover. However, all my attention went to one other auction.

The sensational 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 Fastback stealing the spotlight. This beauty pulled in over 400 comments and racked up 35k+ views, making it a treasure trove of classic car nostalgia. The OGs were out in full force, reminiscing and commenting, and the cherry on top? The winning bidder joined BaT this month, probably just to snag this gem for a cool $319,000!

Imagine the excitement if BaT had a Twitch-style live feed for the final hour, showing the top bidders duking it out with everyone else watching. BaT 2.0, anyone?

This classic Shelby, one of only 22 fastbacks produced for 1968, is a piece of American muscle history. Finished in Raven Black, it's packed with features like a 428ci V8, a four-speed manual, and a slew of other goodies. It's no wonder this auction was an absolute spectacle!

2023 Porsche 911 Dakar $295,000

PCarMarket Analysis

The recent chatter about Marqued, owned by Porsche Digital but never quite hitting the mark with quality Porsches, got me thinking about PCarMarket. They started off exclusively selling Porsches but soon expanded to include other vehicles. Curious about how they've been performing this year, I decided to dig deeper.

PCarMarket lists about 12 cars a day, roughly 60 cars a week. However, they rarely make it onto the daily leaderboard—a bit of a letdown, honestly—suggesting their sell-through rate is hovering below 50%. Let's dive into some general stats for them, starting with their sales figures and average prices month by month for this year.

As you can see below, the numbers are pretty steady each month. They're on track to hit a total of $55 million in sales on the platform this year, which isn't too shabby at all!

I was planning to dive deeper into the different makes sold on PCarMarket, but as you can see below, the majority of their sales are dominated by Porsches. As we noted in yesterday's sales, Porsche is the top seller across the board.

Below, you can see which decades bring in the most sales for PCarMarket. It's no shocker that cars from 2000 onwards dominate the sales figures. Check out the average sale prices below; I'll circle back to discuss the overall average price in a section coming up.

I wanted to find a site with comparable sale numbers to see how their stats stack up compared to PCarMarket. The site that has similar sale numbers is Hagerty.

Key Insights:

  • Number of Cars Sold: Hagerty sold more cars (462) compared to PCarMarket (436).

  • Total Sales Value: PCarMarket achieved a higher total sales value ($32m) compared to Hagerty ($11m).

  • Average Price per Sale: The average price per sale was significantly higher on PCarMarket ($73k) than on Hagerty ($23k).

Without stating the obvious, while Hagerty moved more cars, PCarMarket dealt with higher-value vehicles, resulting in a greater overall sales value and a higher average price per car.

We’re not diving into revenues here, but it's clear that Hagerty isn't in the same league as PCarMarket, despite similar sales numbers.

So, that's a quick roundup of PCarMarket, giving you a glimpse into what they're selling, at what prices, and how they stack up against their closest online competitor.

If you want me to delve into their revenues, just hit me up on email to let me know.
