Two Identical Cayenne's - VERY different results 👀

PLUS: Why selling a Rolls Royce online might not be the best idea

The Daily Vroom

Good Morning, Vroomers!

I’m hoping to have an interview for you in the coming days, keep your eyes 👀 peeled.

Here’s some of the recent poll results:

Would you like me to cover Motorcycles every now & then in an extensive way? (69.7% in favor)

Would you pay over MSRP for a car? (60% of you wouldn’t)

Should more auction platforms sell cars over the weekend? (65% said yes)

MARKET LEADERBOARD

Navigating the Auction Currents: Yesterday's online auctions presented an intriguing sales dynamic. While the day witnessed one of the leanest sales totals in recent memory, amassing just under $5 million, PCarMarket stood out.

Despite only selling three vehicles, they achieved a commendable feat: two of their sales secured spots within the day's top five. Their total sales value for these three cars reached a remarkable $448k—triple that of Hemmings and a mere $100k less than Cars & Bids, who sold a whopping 25 cars!

This just goes to show that the number of sales doesn't always provide the full picture; sometimes it's the quality, not quantity, that truly counts.

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

Online Auctions: A Miss for the Nighthawk Rolls-Royce?

Hey there! 😊 So, here's the scoop on that Nighthawk Edition Rolls that didn't fly off the shelf yesterday:

  • Bid: Went up to $308,500

  • Origin: British beauty 🇬🇧

  • Mileage: A mere 3,600 miles on the odometer

  • Engine: A beastly 6.75-Liter V12 🚀

  • Transmission: Smooth Eight-Speed Automatic

  • Notable Features:

    • One of just nine Nighthawk Editions ever produced! 🌙

    • Diamond Black Paint with Matte Accents, paired with a Black Soft Top

    • Inside, find a mix of Black Leather & Hotspur Red Upholstery

    • Carbon-Fiber Interior Trim, Lexicon Logic7 Audio System, Camera System, and even Fitted Umbrellas! ☂️

    • Price tag when new: A whopping $581,900

Location: Currently in Thousand Oaks, California

My Take 🤔: Online auctions usually cater to a broad audience, but perhaps this modern Rolls isn't quite hitting the mark with the online crowd? You're right; there's usually something for everyone in these platforms. Maybe this Rolls is waiting for a more traditional buyer, or perhaps the online audience isn't resonating with its particular charm? Just some food for thought!

If you follow auctions closely, you’ll certainly notice some sellers more than others. On this listing, WOB was the seller. If you don’t know WOB (I don’t know him personally, but I know of him) he is one of the most prolific sellers on the whole of BaT! He’s had over 1000 listings and has 8 auctions live right now, of which these are some of them.

FLIP OF THE DAY

2023 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS 🚗✨

Diving right in, this eye-catching 2023 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS, draped in a distinctive Chalk paint, caught some attention but perhaps not as much as one would expect.

  • Sold: $208,000

  • Key Features:

    • Twin-Turbocharged 3.0L Flat-Six

    • Eight-Speed PDK Dual-Clutch Transaxle

    • Alluring Chalk Paint with Graphite Blue Leather Interior 🎨

    • 20" & 21" Turbo S Wheels

    • Front-Axle Lift System and Sport Exhaust System 🚀

  • Mileage: A mere 346 miles!

  • Location: Los Angeles, California

My Thoughts: I'm all in for the Chalk color on this Porsche! 🤩 It's a vehicle that screams fun and luxury. However, with only 5,000 views, it appears there might be a limited audience for this specific model. Or is it not the model but that a lot of people don’t want to pay over MSRP for a car??

I'd also love to see more transparency from sellers, saying they’re selling to make a quick buck. No-one is judging you… Except maybe me 😜

A Tale Of Two Cayenne’s

Yesterday, as I was browsing through cars that didn't find a buyer, a particular Cayenne caught my eye. Given the current unpredictable market dynamics, it piqued my curiosity even more. I decided to do a bit of detective work and, to my surprise, found an identical model that had sold on the same platform just three weeks earlier.

What baffled me was the stark price difference: the earlier one sold for a whopping $15,000 more than the highest bid of the recent unsold Cayenne. So, I've decided to dissect the details of both listings to understand this discrepancy. Here's what I found:

Cayenne that didn't sell for $63,000

  • Mileage: 41,600

  • Exterior Color: Black

  • Interior Color: Black

  • Key Features:

    • Premium Package Plus

    • Towing Package

    • Sport exhaust system

    • 22-inch 911 Turbo Design wheels

  • Modifications: Paint protection film on hood

  • Flaws:

    • Rock chips on front end

    • Scratches on driver's door jamb

    • Creases on seats

    • Some scuff marks on interior touch points

Cayenne sold for $78,000

  • Mileage: 39,000

  • Exterior Color: Carrara White Metallic (with a blue wrap)

  • Interior Color: Black

  • Key Features:

    • Rear-axle steering

    • Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+)

    • Sport Exhaust System

    • Panoramic glass roof

  • Modifications: Blue exterior wrap and 22-inch Vossen wheels

  • Flaws:

    • Some chips and scratches around the exterior

    • Scuffs on the lower front bumper

    • Curb rash on one wheel

    • Some creases on the front seats

    • Scuffs on some interior trim pieces and on the rear cargo area

My Take: ( I appreciate I’m grabbing here at some of these points)

  1. Mileage: The Cayenne that fetched $78,000 boasts a tad lower mileage, which might have given it a slight edge.

  2. Exterior Color & Modifications: That striking blue wrap on the $78,000 Cayenne surely gave it a unique charm, setting it apart from the monochromatic black model.

  3. Key Features: The features like rear-axle steering and a panoramic glass roof in the New York Cayenne could have tilted the balance in its favor for some bidders.

  4. Auction Dynamics: Timing is everything, and it seems this adage rings true in the world of car auctions as well. The auction ending on a Friday, a day with historically better sell-through rates, could have worked wonders for the New York Cayenne.

  5. Piecing it all together, the combination of these factors seems to have driven up the value of the Cayenne that sold for $78,000. Its unique features, slightly lower mileage, and favorable auction timing could have collectively swayed the bidders.

Why do you think the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe sold for $15k more than a similar one ending yesterday?
