MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc..

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means Hemmings and many others did not sell 5 cars yesterday!

You'd think the week leading up to Christmas would be a slow one for sales, right? Well, for some, that's true, but for many, the auction scene is still buzzing. Just yesterday, we saw a whopping $6.1 million in sales, and let me tell you, some of those were pretty hefty. Looking down the road at the rest of the week, there's a bunch of big-ticket items lined up that could make some serious waves.

If this is supposed to be the slow season, I'm at a loss for what an off-peak period looks like. Remember August? That month was jam-packed with sales. And November? We hit some of the year's top numbers. Heading into January, I'm not holding my breath for a slowdown. With a fresh player stepping into the game and plenty of platforms gearing up to kick the year off with a bang, it looks like the auction world's throttle is stuck on high.

YOUR FEEDBACK

For those of you tracking the drama around the Mercedes-Benz G320 auction that we talked about in yesterday’s edition, it wrapped up with a $24,000 winning bid. Honestly, that's a pretty sweet deal all things considered. But let's talk about the comment section – not exactly a walk in the park. I believe the seller did what he could, considering the circumstances, especially since he didn't opt to extend the auction; that was BaT's call. He addressed the issue (though maybe just temporarily) and even posted a video of the car running.

Now, about that poll. Only 22% of you think BaT was right to extend the auction. Most of you felt a relisting was the better move.

From my angle, BaT does an incredible job juggling 100+ auctions, so a hiccup here and there is understandable. In my opinion, BaT should've just paused the auction, given the seller a chance to sort things out, and then relist it. This approach would've sidestepped all the negative chatter and bad vibes, plus it wouldn't set a precedent for future issues.

On the other poll from yesterday, the majority of you think the low mileage exceptional 1990 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary will fetch between $1.5-$2m. I guess we’ll wait and see…

AUCTIONS UNDER THE RADAR

Car auctions are happening left, right, and center every day - it's a full-time job just trying to keep up! But hey, I've got you covered. I've handpicked a couple of hidden gems that you might have missed. Just click on the photos, and you'll be whisked away to the heart of the auction action. You won't want to miss these!

As of this Monday, two of these auctions are sitting pretty with top bids of $145,678 and a whopping $1,234,567. Looks like some folks are having a bit of fun with their numbers!

VINTAGE PORSHCE POWER

Yesterday, we hit a record with four vintage Porsches topping the charts in all of the day's online auctions. And by vintage, I mean seriously old-school – the youngest is a 1973 model, making it 50 years old! Each of these beauties stands out for its own reasons, but what's really mind-blowing is the level of cash and attention they're pulling in. We're talking sky-high views and bids. It's clear that the love for these quality old Porsches isn’t just holding steady – it's thriving.

Here's an interesting stat to chew on: 46% of all Porsches sold in online auctions this December were pre-2000 models. That's almost half of all sales going to cars that have seen at least a couple of decades.

Now, let's dive into a quick rundown of each of these timeless machines, which are pictured below:

  1. Ewan McGregor’s 1972 Porsche 911T Targa 5-Speed: This ride snagged $166,000. Owned by the famous Ewan McGregor, it's a classic with its 2.4L Flat-Six engine and a look that's just as cool as its previous owner.

  2. 2.2L-Powered 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster 5-Speed: This one raked in an impressive $590,000. It's got all the right upgrades – think 2.2-Liter Willhoit WR Flat-Four engine and a slick WEVO Five-Speed Manual Transaxle. Plus, that black and red combo? Timeless.

  3. 1962 Porsche 356B Twin Grille Roadster: A rare gem that fetched $400,000. It's one of only 249 made, and its vibrant red finish makes it a real head-turner.

  4. Single-Family-Owned 1973 Porsche 911S Coupe 5-Speed: This family heirloom brought in $240,000. It’s not just a car; it’s a treasure trove of memories, all wrapped up in its classic Sepia Brown finish.

So there's your peek into the world where vintage Porsches rule. And the reason they're such a big deal? It's pretty simple – these cars are just downright awesome!
