Why This Dealer Bought Back Their Own GT3 RS
The Daily Vroom
Hey Vroomers!
Sorting through the hundreds of sales (and non-sales) each day, I come across countless stories worth telling about pricing, data, and the people behind the bids. Today, beyond the usual figures, there are two sales that really stand out.
Enjoy, and if you’re liking The Daily Vroom, spread the word—we’re just getting warmed up!

MARKET LEADERBOARD
💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.
I only include websites that have sold 5+ vehicles in the chart below.
Here’s what we’re looking at this Monday: one of the leanest sales days we’ve seen in a while, with just over $5.5 million in total sales. Sell-through rates were down across the board, likely because of Columbus Day here in the U.S.—maybe people were more distracted than usual.
Hagerty, not our typical leaderboard contender, showed up strong thanks to their no-reserve listings from a 10-car collection they’re selling. Now, as I’ve said a few times, collections—especially no-reserve ones—tend to perform well for Hagerty. They’ve been smart with this approach, rolling out collections a few times a year with consistent success.
And lately, I’ve noticed they’ve leaned in further on the no-reserve side. Getting sellers to list no-reserve is no small feat, so credit where it’s due to Hagerty for keeping the momentum going with a strategy that’s clearly paying off.
YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES
There’s one story I wanna highlight of the top 5 sales, but before I do that, remember the ‘85 Audi Quattro that I wrote about yesterday that was at $55k. Well it sold for $94k - an epic sale price!
Now let’s get down to the one sale from yesterday I HAVE to highlight.
Some sales come down to pure numbers; others tell a story. And then there are deals like this one—a Porsche 911 GT3 RS Weissach that ended up back with the original dealer in what the seller himself called an “awkward end.”
The car’s more than a beauty in Guards Red with black Race-Tex accents; it's a testament to obsession and meticulous planning. The seller spent three years climbing the Porsche ladder to get this allocation, flipping six new Porsches (at a loss, no less) to earn the privilege. He poured himself into designing a spec that he believed would stand the test of time—a GT3 RS that was meant to sit in his showroom, the crown jewel of his collection. This wasn’t some daily driver; it was an investment with a 9,000-rpm heartbeat and a “24GT3RS” custom plate that’s as perfect as the car itself.
But sometimes, life throws a curve. Due to some financial hits, the seller found himself needing to let go of his dream car—a wrenching decision, by any standard. Enter Ray Catena Porsche, who originally sold him the car and ended up buying it back. Was this a simple act of loyalty to a good client? Maybe. But let’s be real, it’s also a Porsche GT3 RS Weissach. There’s little doubt it’ll be back on the market at a premium soon, and likely in front of buyers who will appreciate it even more now with its story in tow.
Ultimately, this isn’t just about dollars or cars. It’s about what these machines mean to the people who pour themselves into the chase, even if that dream rolls away with someone else at the wheel

When an '86 Corolla Sells for $40K, It's More Than Just a Car
When a 1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S sells for $40,000, it's worth taking a closer look. This isn't just any old econobox - we're talking about a bonafide rad-era legend that just set a record price for a GT-S on Bring a Trailer.
With 113,000 miles on the clock, this AE86 has clearly been driven and enjoyed. Yet it still pulled in a sum that would make many modern sports cars jealous. So what gives?
A big part of it is pure, unfiltered nostalgia. We all have those cars that hold a special place in our hearts, whether it's the family wagon from childhood road trips or the zippy little number from our first date. For many, the AE86 represents the pinnacle of 80’s Japanese engineering - simple, fun, and attainable.
This particular Corolla is a time capsule, preserving all that rad 80’s goodness in remarkably good condition. For the right buyer, it's a chance to relive those cherished memories or fulfill a long-held dream of owning the ultimate hachi-roku.
The record-setting price shows just how desirable these cars have become. It's not about low mileage or mind-bending performance specs. Instead, it's the car's cultural significance, its reputation for sublime handling, and yes, its totally rad 80’s vibe that drive the value.
