Will This Bugatti Chiron Break Records?

PLUS: Two very different race cars up for auction 🏎

The Daily Vroom

Hey there, Vroomers!

Every day, my inbox is flooded with emails from the community, with many different car related questions. I make sure to respond to each and every one, and if possible, I'm always up for hopping on a call. One question that keeps popping up is, "Which platform do I prefer?" Well, my answer stays consistent: I root for them all to succeed. While I might have a soft spot for one platform's design, another's features, or even a different one's car lineup, I never shy away from speaking my mind, whether it's praise or critique.

This industry is a journey; nothing happens overnight. Platforms, buyers, and sellers alike have to put in the work. We all know BaT has risen to the top, but they started with no audience just like everyone else. And hey, they can still improve; they make mistakes like the rest of us. So, while I might sound overly positive about one site today, I could just as easily offer some constructive feedback next week.

My loyalty? It's always to you, the readers - I want you to find value in what you're reading.

Oh, and speaking of improvement, I'm on my own journey too. I'm all ears for what you want me to cover. Shoot me an email at [email protected] Alrighty, enough chitchat; let's dive into those cars!

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc… All online auction sites are analyzed to put this leaderboard together.

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below.

Yesterday, $6.1 million worth of vehicles found their new owners. Interestingly, my assumption that Porsche would top the sales was proven wrong. Surprisingly, the top three selling makes were:

  • BMW, comprising 10.5% of the total sales

  • Ford, accounting for 9.7% of the total sales

  • Mercedes-Benz, securing 8.2% of the total sales

It's fascinating to note that we witnessed transactions across 46 different makes. I must admit, listing 46 makes off the top of my head might pose a challenge. Could you name 46 different makes?

YESTERDAY’S TOP 5 SALES

I love it when a great car finds its buyer. Yesterday, I mentioned how the seller was sizing up his 2019 Porsche GT2 RS against a recent sale that fetched $575,000. It's clear he aimed was trying to jack up the price, which is fair play. Yet, what's commendable is his realism regarding the reserve price ($395,000) - kudos to him. And hats off to PCarMarket for pulling off a solid sale!

2019 PORSCHE 991.2 GT2 RS CLUBSPORT $395,000

2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring 6-Speed $282,001

1996 Porsche 911 Turbo $251,000

2022 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante $246,000

2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder $173,000

Some Cool Race Cars Up For Auction

This 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe 6-Speed Race Car is an absolute beast on the track. With a current bid of $57,500 and still 5 days left in the auction, this machine is poised to dominate.

OMG! What a build. This masterpiece of a 996TT is built to crush the competition. Featuring a twin-turbocharged 3.6L flat-six engine with K16 turbochargers and a performance tune, this car delivers exhilarating performance with every lap.

Boasting a race-prepped cabin, including a single Sparco racing seat, a fire suppression system, and a MOMO steering wheel, this Porsche means business. With aftermarket body panels, a carbon-fiber rear wing, and Lexan windows, it's been optimized for speed and agility.

Equipped with Porsche Motorsport suspension parts, BBS E88 wheels, and GiroDisc rotors, this race car is ready to tackle the toughest circuits with ease.

For those that don’t know - H2 is an awesome group that offers up some really fun, close racing.

Get ready to hit the track in style with this 2007 Honda Civic Si Coupe! Converted into a track car, this Civic is a true speed demon, boasting extensive modifications that take its performance to the next level.

Equipped with a Hondata Flashpro tuner, HyTech full exhaust system, RB Performance front brakes, and a stripped-out interior with a roll cage, this Civic means serious business on the track.

The seller claims that this Civic achieves a blistering 2:04 lap time on the east side, comparable to a street Porsche GT4! And he’s right, here’s the video of the lap!

I just realized BaT have a section for all their race cars- why did I not know this before!! Anyways here’s the link.

Will This Bugatti Break Records?

We've got a thrilling listing here that could potentially break records. This 2018 Bugatti Chiron is not just your ordinary supercar—it's a powerhouse of performance and luxury. With the current bid standing at an impressive $3,050,000 and still 4 days to go, this auction has all the makings of a historic event.

But here's where it gets even more interesting. This listing isn't just vying for the highest sale this year on Bring a Trailer; it's aiming to be the top sale across all online auction platforms! However, it's worth noting that there's some history with the Bugatti Chiron this year. Two similar cars failed to sell—a 2019 version hitting $3.2 million and a Sport version reaching $3,495,000. Will this 2018 model break the streak?

Equipped with a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine boasting a staggering 1,479 horsepower, this Chiron is a force to be reckoned with. Its striking blue exposed carbon-fiber bodywork and Italian red leather upholstery exude opulence at every turn.

Plus, it's not just any Chiron—it's one of only 500 ever produced, making it a rare find indeed.

So, will the seller finally let it go? Will more bids roll in before the countdown ends?

Alumni Catchup

Below are the top 5 Alumni sales yesterday. The arrows in the diagram below show whether the vehicle sale has gone down or up in value.

The Aston Martin DB9 caught my eye right away, especially seeing its price drop by $9k over the past year. What's intriguing is how it contrasts with yesterday's manual transmission car, which saw an increase in value, while this automatic didn't hold onto its worth.

An interesting tidbit about this sale is that the seller mentioned attempting to sell it on various other platforms like Facebook and Craigslist, but encountered a lot of scammers. ‘Here, at least, there's a better chance of finding genuine buyers, although it can still come down to luck to have two buyers interested simultaneously.’ Surprisingly, this listing garnered about 20% fewer views compared to last year's listing.

However, views aren't everything; for instance, the '74 Lamborghini saw a $10k increase in value despite having fewer views than its original listing. It all boils down to attracting the right buyers.
