The Daily Vroom

Hey there Vroomers, rise and shine!

I'm going to keep it brief today. We've had a string of lengthy Daily Vroom editions lately, and I want to make sure I'm always bringing you something new and exciting each day.

Don't forget, you can catch up on all our past editions over at The Daily Vroom. And hey, if you could spread the word to your car-loving buddies about us, I'd be over the moon. Thanks a bunch!

MARKET LEADERBOARD

๐Ÿ’ฐ The figures shared below donโ€™t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc..

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means Hagerty, Hemmings and many others did not sell 5 cars yesterday!

So, the day before was like hitting the jackpot with $8 million in sales, right? But then, yesterday, things took a bit of a nosedive down to $5 million. Just one of those days, fewer listings, and a handful of almost-deals that didn't quite make it. For the number crunchers among us, the market ended up with an average sale price of just a bit over $37K yesterday.

Looking at today, I'm not spotting any big game changers in the lineup. However, let's keep an eye on tomorrow โ€“ if everything lines up and the car gods are smiling, I predict weโ€™ll see a bounce back to that $8 million territory.

WILL THIS CARRERA GT BREAK AUCTION RECORDS?

Hold onto your seats because today, we're diving into a real gem that's hit the auction block. It's a 601-Mile 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, and it's not just any high-end car โ€“ this could very well be the second $2m sale of the year on Bring a Trailer!

Here's the lowdown: We've got a car that's one in 1,270, a true collector's piece. It's decked out in GT Silver Metallic with Ascot Brown leather upholstery, screaming luxury from every angle. With its 5.7-Liter V10 and six-speed manual transaxle, it's a beast waiting to be unleashed.

And let's talk condition โ€“ it's practically pristine with just 601 miles on the clock. This Carrera GT is a perfect blend of power and elegance, featuring ceramic composite brakes, xenon headlights, and those iconic removable roof panels.

But what's really exciting? It's currently sitting at a cool $1,395,000 with 1 day left in the auction. Will this be a record-breaking sale for Bring a Trailer?

BaT $1m+ SALES THIS YEAR

With the potential Carrera GT sale in mind, I went to take a quick trip down memory lane of 2023's high-roller sales on Bring a Trailer. The real action didn't kick off until May, believe it or not. That was when we first saw the big bucks rolling in, with the first sale crossing the million-dollar mark.

Since that milestone in May, it's been like opening the floodgates. We've seen more and more of these jaw-dropping, wallet-opening sales. Take, for example, that sleek 1967 Porsche 910 that found a new home in June for a cool $2.5 million. Talk about setting the bar high!

And the hits kept coming. Remember the 2019 Porsche 935 in November? That beauty cruised away for a sweet $1.6 million. Or how about the 1976 Porsche 934 Race Car in August, snagging a hefty $1.55 million?

What's really interesting here is the timing. It's the second half of the year that's been the hotbed for these mega-sales. It's like collector car enthusiasts are hitting the gas pedal hard on spending, undeterred by the economic speed bumps.

And it's not just a Bring a Trailer thing โ€“ we're seeing this uptick in high-end sales across the board. It's a sign that the market for luxury and classic cars isn't just revving up; it's roaring back to life.

NEARLY SALE OF THE DAY

Yesterday's auction spotlight was on a truly extraordinary vehicle: the 1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT Millennium Roadster. This particular car, #2 of just 10 Millennium Edition Roadsters made for the U.S., bid up to $432,000 but remained unsold, encapsulating the enigmatic nature of such rare finds.

Key features that set this Lamborghini apart include:

  • Its captivating Titanium Metallic exterior and a sophisticated black and gray leather interior.

  • A robust 5.7-Liter Quad-Cam V12 engine coupled with a five-speed manual transmission, providing a thrilling ride.

  • Unique characteristics like the removable hardtop, 18" OZ Racing Wheels, Brembo Brakes, and the signature scissor doors.

  • Exceptional condition with only 14k miles, indicating meticulous care and maintenance.

The auction drew numerous comments about the car's value, with many suggesting it's worth more. However, the rarity of this model poses a challenge โ€“ it's only truly valuable if the right buyer is present to bid. With so few of these models ever coming up for auction, determining its fair market value becomes a complex task.

Interestingly, the last similar model sold online was for $260k four years ago, indicating the rarity and desirability of this vehicle. The Diablo VT Millennium Roadster is not just a car; it's a symbol of Lamborghini's legacy of performance and luxury.

In the end, if the seller isn't in a rush to sell, they have the luxury of waiting for the right moment and the right buyer to realize the true value of this magnificent machine. This auction serves as a fascinating case study in the unpredictable world of rare car auctions, where value is often in the eye of the bidder.
