PLUS: Deep Dive into Bronco Sales Over the Last Quarter

The Daily Vroom

Good morning Vroomers! 👋

Skipping the usual chit-chat today, let's dive right into the action

MARKET LEADERBOARD

💰 The figures shared below don’t count any other sales such as car seats, memorabilia etc..

I only include websites that have sold 5+ cars in the chart below. Which means Hagerty, Hemmings and many others did not sell 5 cars yesterday!

As we get closer to the end of the year, the auction scene is not slowing down. Yesterday we saw sales total just over $5.7m

Hats off to our UK platforms Collecting Cars who had the highest sale of the day and also to Car & Classic who sold the 2nd most amount of cars yesterday and just missed out on the top 5 sales (being number 6).

2020 Bac Mono $196,000

Collectors Spotlight

Hey, if you're anything like me, you're probably spending a good chunk of your time scrolling through car auction platforms, just being curious about what others are snapping up. Case in point: the BAC Mono that just got sold for a sweet deal of $196,000. Naturally, I got curious about who landed that bargain. Turns out, it was a user named 'wcdean'. So, I did a little digging into his buying history and, wow, was I impressed! The guy's got an amazing range of cars in his garage, from a modest $19k Bentley to a jaw-dropping $1.3 million Ford GT. Talk about having an eye for diverse and incredible rides!

FORD BRONCO SALES ANALYZED

There’s something truly special about the Ford Bronco. It’s not just a vehicle; it’s a piece of American history, a blend of adventure and raw power. Driving a Bronco is about capturing that spirit of freedom and exploration, about conquering any terrain with boldness and an unapologetically American attitude 🇺🇸. Enough of me rambling on. Below is last 3 months (Sep-Dec) analysis of all Bronco sales.

The top selling Bronco was this incredible Coyote-Powered 1972 Ford Bronco 4×4 sold for $240,000- the market is certainly not soft on Bronco’s!!

The histogram above illustrates the distribution of Ford Bronco prices from online auctions between September and December 2023. The distribution is notably varied, with a substantial number of sales clustered in specific price ranges.

The majority of sales are concentrated around the $100,000 to $150,000 bracket, indicating a strong market preference for Broncos within this price range. However, the chart also reveals exceptional sales, with several Broncos fetching prices well above $200,000, highlighting the presence of premium, highly sought-after models in the market.

Looking at the data, it's clear that the sales numbers have been pretty steady over the last couple of months. Interestingly, the average sales for the three months prior were around 30, so these last three months have actually seen a slight uptick in numbers.

From September to November 2023, both total sales and average prices showed a downward trend. September started strong with the highest total sales and average prices, but there was a noticeable decline in both metrics as the months progressed, with November recording the lowest figures in terms of overall sales value and average prices.

I’ll save you twisting your head to the side. The 70’s fetch the highest prices, probably due to their classic status, and the coolness 😎 of some of those older models. On the other hand, some of the newer models also command high prices, which makes sense with lots of opportunity to make a quick buck. It’s the 80’s & 90’s models that have yet to hit the heights. The question is will they ever be in fashion?

I've got to say, looking at this chart kind of makes me raise an eyebrow. Sure, every auction platform has its sweet spot – like Cars & Bids, they’ve got a thing for rides from the 80s onwards, so obviously, they're not racking up numbers with the older Broncos. But still, you’d think the other platforms would've stepped up their game a bit more. It's a bit of a letdown, honestly. I was really rooting for a tighter race across the board.

You know what's wild? Over these past three months, it's been all about the Raptor when it comes to Broncos. We're talking prices stretching from a cool $80,000 up to a whopping $107,000. On the average, these bad boys were fetching about $15k over the MSRP. Take this beast that went for $107k - its sticker price was just $85k. Looks like flipping a Raptor is still pretty hot business!

Alright, I just gotta share what's always a hit with you guys – the day-of-the-week chart. Now, get this: despite what the auction platforms or sellers might prefer, it turns out weekends are prime time for car sales. And would you look at that? Only Tuesday managed to outdo the weekend when it came to moving Broncos.
