The Daily Vroom

Happy Tuesday Vroomers!

In yesterday’s post, I conducted a poll inquiring if you'd consider bidding and purchasing a car over the weekend. Interestingly, over 90% of respondents indicated they would. So, to all auction platforms out there, the message is clear: Consider hosting auctions throughout the week, including weekends. Even operating six days a week could significantly boost your revenue. Every day counts!

Let’s get straight into the meat of today’s newsletter…

SALE OF THE DAY

🔥 997-Mile 2006 Ford GT: A Personal Take 🔥

Yesterday, a spectacular 2006 Ford GT, boasting a mere 997 miles on its odometer, was sold for a whopping $413,000. Located in the picturesque Calgary, Alberta, Canada, this American beauty is bathed in a striking Speed Yellow hue, complemented by Ebony Leather Upholstery. A glance under its hood reveals a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 powerhouse, mated to a Ricardo six-speed manual gearbox. The addition of BBS Split-Spoke Forged Wheels, a McIntosh Stereo System, and HID Headlights further elevates its grandeur.

Now, to the crux of the matter. Personally, the pricing dynamics of these machines baffle me. I've delved deep into the sales figures of such models and, more often than not, witnessed a variance of +-$50k. This fluctuation seems indifferent to factors like mileage, condition, or even color. Honestly, I believe it's all about timing and platform – landing the right buyer at the right time on the right site is crucial. Given the limited clientele for such exclusive wheels, it's all about striking when the iron is hot. 🤔🚗💸

One other little gripe I have, and perhaps you share this sentiment, is why don't people actually drive these beauties? 997 miles equates to roughly 50 miles a year. Cars like the Ford GT are not just meant to be ogled at; they're built to be driven, to be felt, to be experienced. Just drive it and soak in the exhilaration; that's my 2 cents. 🛣️💨

NEARLY SALE OF THE DAY

🚗 2009 Aston Martin DBS Coupe: A Puzzling Near-Miss 🚗

Yesterday, a stellar 2009 Aston Martin DBS Coupe, draped in a mysterious black hue and paired with a matching interior, almost found a new home. With a highest bid of $151,500, it came close but didn't cross the finish line.

Diving into its features, this beauty boasts a mere 5,400 miles on its clock and is powered by a hand-crafted 5.9L V12 beast. The uncommon 6-speed manual transmission accentuates its allure, offering purists a truly engaging drive. As for the amenities, we're talking 20-inch alloy wheels, carbon ceramic matrix brakes, heated sport bucket seats, and the premium Bang & Olufsen BeoSound sound system. And for those seeking peace of mind, a clean, accident-free Carfax report accompanies this gem.

Now, while this Aston has a lot going for it, pricing such a piece of art can be a little tricky. This DBS, despite its low mileage, might have faced a slight markdown due to its color – a rarity, given that color often elevates a price. My gut feeling is that the seller was looking for maybe $10k more, but that might not be for a few months at best! It’s hard to let go sometimes…🤔💰

Even though the market has spoken and this sale didn't materialize, perhaps there's a chance for a backend deal? After all, where there's a will (and a stunning car like this), there's always a way! 🌟🤝🌟 What do you think?

Was the final bid a good price for this Aston?

PORSCHE GT3’S SALES

I love the Porsche GT3. It’s uber cool for its unmatched performance, sleek design, and exhilarating drive. I’ve driven in one round the canyons here in LA and let me tell you, it’s a lot of fun.

Born in 1999, the GT3 epitomizes Porsche's pursuit of blending racetrack capability with everyday utility. Its longstanding appeal is undeniable, and the recent sales from July to August 20th further affirm its market charisma. Let's delve into these figures and appreciate the GT3's enduring legacy.

🚗 Porsche GT3 Auction Summary - July-August 20th 🚗

From July till August 20th, a total of 22 high-performance Porsche models changed hands.

🥇 The highest sold GT3 was the 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring 6-Speed, fetching a price of $299,000 on Bring A Trailer. This GT3 Touring model offers the high-performance characteristics of the GT3 with a more subdued and less track-focused appearance. Its top price showcases its recent model year and the sustained demand for high-performance Porsches.

🥈 The 2022 Porsche 992 GT3 Touring 6-Speed took the second spot, selling for $281,991 on PCARMARKET Auctions. The GT3 Touring model continues to be a favorite among Porsche enthusiasts due to its blend of performance and subtlety.

🥉 Rounding out the top three was the iconic 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Changing hands for $271,000 on Bring A Trailer, this legend stands as a testament to Porsche's racing DNA — a true masterpiece that's as thrilling to drive as it is to behold.

🔍 Further Insights & Auction Sites 🔎

The sales included models from four different online platforms: Bring A Trailer, PCARMARKET Auctions, Collecting Cars, and Cars And Bids.

The majority of the cars (14 out of 22) were auctioned on Bring A Trailer. PCARMARKET Auctions sold four, (although 2 of those were in the top four most expensive sold) Collecting Cars auctioned three, and Cars And Bids sold one.

Interestingly, out of the 22 Porsche models sold, 12 featured manual transmissions. This underlines a consistent preference among enthusiasts for the tactile experience and control that manual gearboxes offer.

The GT3 models from the years 2022 and 2019 were particularly popular, with 5 occurrences each in the auction. These models, known for their blend of daily drivability and racetrack readiness, are highly coveted by Porsche enthusiasts.

On the more affordable side, a 2003 Porsche 911 (996) GT3 Cup was sold for $68,140 on Collecting Cars. Even though it's an older model, the 996 GT3 Cup is cherished for its pure racing pedigree and the iconic experience it provides.

Below are the price trends for all GT3 sales during this time period.

The price trends graph above is ‘ok’ to look at. But for me, I need to see comparison models trends that can give me a better insight to where the market is going.

Examining the sales trajectory for the 2022 Porsche GT3, an interesting observation arises. One might assume that lower mileage would correspond to a higher sale price. However, the sale on August 8th challenges this notion. Despite having the lowest mileage, it fetched one of the lower selling prices.

It seems as though 2022 GT3 prices are falling. We’ll have to wait a while to find out as there are none for sale currently! There’s no chart for the 2019 model but it’s prices are also falling. So if you have a GT3, it might be best to hold on to it if you’re not desperate for the sale.

As with all of my analysis, I leave the best chart till last 😀 the most popular day of the week to buy a Porsche GT3, Tuesday is the winner!!
